I have no idea why the 2012 team was on my mind, maybe it's just reflection on how terrible this previous decade has been and that was the last decent year before the Herman Era.
Anyway, let's compare how the current 2020 team stacks up against the 2012 Longhorn team.

Edge: 2020. Gotta go with the veteran three-year starter with Sam and significantly better backups.

Edge: Even. It's hard not to project how good the 2020 safeties will be, but their production or lack thereof last year brings them back down to the 2012 safety squad level.
Conclusion: By my count, there are more position groups on the 2020 squad better than those from the 2012 squad with 3 to 2, while they are pretty much even in a few areas. As for predictions, considering the 2012 team finished 8-4 with a morale boosting Alamo Bowl win over Oregon St., I have to say the 2020 projects to do better this year. IMO, they'll go on to win at least 8 games, but that's finishing 0.800 with only 10 games for the regular season. I'm predicting a ninth win for the Big 12 championship followed by a NY6 bowl entry as well.
