We've made it through another February. It always flies by. And it's great to get through another one without any allergy issues. I used to battle with it in February with all the temperature changes and Spring stuff in the air. But Sinus and Snoring Specialists stopped all that back in 2017.

Dr. Slaughter was nice enough to record with me back at the beginning of the month. Check it out and listen to all the things he and his staff can do for you...

Do that Spring cleaning you've been putting off. Get those sinuses cleaned out for good. Find out why you snore so much. Tell your bed partner it's time for them to check out Sinus and Snoring Specialists.

Tell 'em you heard about it on OB. Here's to better breathing, better resting, and a better March.

* - All right, let's have some fun with this number everyone keeps bringing up...68.

You're DBs Coach is So Old...he's older than Def Leppard. All 5 members. Duane Akina is older than all 4 members of Poison. Yup, even CC. At 68, Coach Akina is older than Jim Carrey (63). Crazy. Wrestling fans, he's older than The Undertaker (59). That's right, he's older than THE dead man. Shawn Michaels (59) is younger than Akina. So are The Rock (52) and Stone Cold Steve Austin (60). Is Akina older than Jon Bon Jovi? Yes. JBJ is 62. BUT, he's younger than Jon Bon Jovi's drummer. Now we're getting somewhere. The great Tico Torres is 71, a full 3 years older than Coach Akina.

And while Coach Akina is older than A President, he's not older than THE President. Boom. In fact, Presidents Trump (78), Biden (82), GW Bush (78), and Clinton (78) are all older. Akina IS older than Obama (63). Ok fine, that's true. BUT, Duane Akina is also, for sure, YOUNGER than... Mick Jagger, Jerry Jones, Joe Pesci, Mack Brown, Nick Saban, Hulk Hogan, and Hubie Brown. Hubie just called his last basketball game at the age of 91. And I still say he's the best hoops analyst out there. Period. At 91. (Side Note: If you're a fan, watch Hubie's farewell message from courtside. Goosebumps.)

The point is the age thing will be used against Coach Akina, just as it would if he were "too far" on the young side. But it's not about if a 68-year-old man can do this? We know they can. Don't believe me? Pete Carroll, Dick Lebeau, and plenty others would like a word. It's about if Duane Akina can still do this. Is that same energy still there? Everybody I have heard talk about it says yes. And the development numbers are just silly. 41 guys into the Draft? 3 Thorpe Award winners? He develops guys. Bottom line. Is he 17 years older than Terry Joseph? Yes. When Akina left Texas in 2013, was he 5 years older than Joseph is now? Yes. But has he developed more big time talent than Terry Joseph has had hot dinners? Yup. And I know plenty of Longhorn fans that can't wait for him to get his hands on the talent of Jonah Williams, Jelani McDonald, and the rest. Cause remember, he didn't stop coaching in 2013. Let's take a look.

Where have you been?

Akina was at Stanford from 2014-2022. So that's after Andrew Luck is gone and Akina is there for the rest of David Shaw's tenure. The first 5 years in Palo Alto, The Cardinal win 8, 12, 10, 9, and 9 games. The 2015 team beat USC twice, won the Pac 12 (Ahh memories), and won the Rose Bowl. Then the bad times hit. Stanford wins 4 games in '19 and '20 and 3 games in '21 and '22. When Coach Shaw is done, so is Akina. He gets an analyst role at AZ in 2023 and The Wildcats go 10-3 with a bowl win over OU. Remember that one? Then in 2024, Akina ends up as DC for Arizona. He went from analyst to DC? He did. Was he in over his head a little? Maybe. They went 4-8, and Brent Brennan decided to go with his ST/LB coach at DC in 2025.

In the 10 non-Covid seasons since he left Texas, those teams won 9 or more 5 times. In 6 bowl games, those teams went 5-1. Then Texas called Duane Akina home. And hopefully, all the mess from the end of the Mack era will be a distant memory. He's back at Texas, and Texas is Texas again. He frankly wasn't on teams that really mattered the last decade. This one is gonna matter like you can't believe. Akina reunites with Nansen, gets to coach a level of player he may have forgotten existed, and he'll get to say he was there for Arch in burnt orange. Arizona? They host Hawaii in week 1. No comparison. Plus, whatever NCAA rules madness Akina had to navigate at Texas back in the day? Gone. NIL reality is here. He arrives in 2025 Austin... where the 2024 center had a Lambo deal. I mean c'mon.

Is he ready for the pressure cooker? Is he ready for the heat? Is he ready for P4 football at its best? Is he ready to help a back to back Final Four team that will accept nothing less than the semis this season? Most 68-year-olds couldn't handle it. Good thing this ain't no ordinary 68-year-old. His name is Duane Akina, his wallet says DBU, and the energy at DKR just got cranked up a notch. And I ain't talking about lights or drones. Good luck Coach.
