2019 Recruiting Thread

Yes,6'6",285 and growing and beef in the trenches is needed, good pickup.I hope we get a few more.
Now you need to beef up the D-line. Only spot now you seems really short on, but there is plenty of time left and you guys are in the mix for some good ones.

Shepard is big, but he's got some holes in his game. He's going to have to be torn down and rebuilt. He's got no chest. He's got titties. And flat titties at that. He's got a great base and lower body, big arms, great hands..... but his chest looks like someone popped pam anderson's balloons. He's got potential, but he's a couple of years away in the upper body area.

^^^

He's got good feet and some junkyard dog in him. Neither can be taught. Plus he can block in space on the second level.

Pretty sure that 285 is dated. Like 9th grade dated. Sheppard looks 40 pounds heavier than that to me. But he has a really good chance of being a bigtime player in a couple years. Like myself, he probably needs to watch what he eats.

He needs to get some weight off and then let Yancy mold him.

Looks like Tuofono is going to SC because his GF is a student at Tom Herman's alum Cal Lutheran.
Also UT may not be recruiting DE Carter from Mansfield anymore.

Seems like Texas will be getting a RB out of GA Derrian Brown

According to some he is a Jamaal Charles type back

Well, he's got dreadlocks, balance, and about the same size, but I'm not seeing Jamaal Charles type blazing speed. Still looks pretty good.

What's the story here? Does he have Texas ties? Seems strange that this name comes out of nowhere, and it already looks like we're getting him?

Very interesting though. Buford is a powerhouse program, and might as well be a UGA farm team. That would be quite a steal.

I think his game speed is in his first few steps
Charles was a track athlete before a football player so in the open field he was unstoppable

I see the same explosiveness.

Texas' RB coach has an amazing pedigree so players listen to him
Even Noah Cain
Plus Bryan Carrington is an excellent recruiter
I think Texas was after him and I guess he will make a UOV and then a OV during the SC game
This was according to Justin Wells.

Cain and Sanders are still in the plans.

You mean Trey Sanders? Yeah I tried asking what was going on with him. Sorry I've gotten behind on the recruiting front.

EDIT: and btw, I strongly disagree about Charles. That dude was a football player that also happened to be a track star. He wasn't your typical sprinter you throw out there to use his speed on the field.

I guess Sanders will come to ATX for a OV
Don't know any more of him besides everyone around Bama thinks they have him.

If Texas could get Sanders, Cain and Evans you might not have to throw the ball.

How Texas is pushing for Brown I think they are not as confident as before about the IMG players.

A Big XII Championship can change a lot of players mind

Man, I'd be so thrilled to just get Cain and Sanders, I think I'd pass out. If not, Brown and/or Evans would fit in nice, too.

If LSU self destructs this year and Coach O is fired during the season I think Cain will come to UT.
He said he wants to see how the OL looks so even if LSU has a decent season and they get off of the edge of the commode Cain could still be a Longhorn, IMO.

Yeah I got the feeling all we had to do was have a good season and Cain is ours.

I actually just watched Zach Evans for the first time. Holy sh*t. Now that's some Jamaal Charles speed right there. I know he's just going into his junior year, but I was even more impressed with him, than Sanders.

Speed backs want an Oline that can help them get to the edge. Power backs want an Oline that opens holes. Right now I don't know which we are or aren't......... and neither do running back recruits. If we can't do either, don't expect top flight talent to want to play behind them.

Who says you cannot have a run game that runs downhill but has the ability to get to the edge
Very much why Herman brought in Herb Hand who has worked with Rich Rod and Gus Malzahn.

Everyone in CFB is chasing what Herman had in 2014 with Ohio St.

Herman to me is someone who likes collaboration and to be on the cutting edge.

With numerous tight ends and someone like Tre Watson that can line up in the slot I have a feeling that this offense will be capable of big plays.

There are too many players that can make plays with the ball in their hands.
Just need health and desire on the OL.

We might see a lot of movement with WR in the backfield and RB in the slot.

Man, I could not possibly disagree more. Charles had elusiveness and vision in tight quarters like few I’ve seen, and he had it from the very beginning. He was an exceptionally instinctive football player who just happened to have an incredible top gear.

Not to mention the physical way he played. Somebody ask AJ Hawk if Jamaal hit like a track star. Lol

Charles ran track before he even played football in Port Arthur.
Actually in the Special Olympics because of a learning disability
Don't forget the age he finally started playing football but it was once he was at Memorial High School.

Charles even ran track at UT.
I believe he was a Big XII Champion in numerous events and placed at the NCAA.

Yes, chronogicallly he ran track first. He was still a natural football player with all the skills of an elite RB, and then some. To suggest he's just a track guy who plays football is an insult to the football player he is.

He went pro in football, not track.

Charles had a 10 year NFL career with a 5.5 YPC average. What made Charles special was his ability to make NFL linebackers look foolish in the second level. Go look at some youtube clips of his early days with the Chiefs before his ACL injury.

Rivals 250 update coming today. State reranking coming by the weekend. Not crazy about Rivals ranking this year, they seem to only have love for skill guys in state (some WR's way overrated imo). Maybe they give the big boys some love with the update. I used to believe rivals and 247 were far superior to ESPN. Not so sure this year.

I go to 247 first, ESPN 2nd and Rivals 5th

One thing I do believe Rivals on is their ranking of Theo Wease. Some ppl on here and other boards dont like his rating, but that dude will play on Sundays. Book it.
