We started hot but have since fallen to #16 per 247. Not a good look for Herman. He better make the playoff this year or he will be in trouble. It's obvious that we aren't paying enough.

Texas has to develop what they have, put them in the league on day 1 of the draft and freaking win 11+ games consistently. Until then, we're going to be hanging around 8-15 on the recruting chart.
There are a bunch of guys I guarantee are waiting to see. They'd like to go to Texas I feel, but they want to be in the playoff and want to be taken on day 1 of the draft. Right now, that isn't Texas.

As much as we hate to admit it, going 8-5 is much more appealing if you're playing top 15 programs on the road in front of 90k+. That isn't the Big 12. Texas is Texas though, which is why we can still get top 10 classes even though we're stuck in mediocrity.
That said, we have to be the on par with OU because the Big 12 is the lowest drawing conference/gm of the Power 5. Going 8-5 playing at Kansas, Kansas State, etc. isn't very exciting if I'm a TOP 100 HS recruit.
