That’s exactly what he’s being charged with: felony assault charge for alleged strangulation of family member.
Hope so but 75% of DV victims want charges dropped.. IF and only IF it did happen and theirs physical proof they will change him regardless of the victims want. Hopefully this tweet is correct though and it's all bs

It is conceivable that if his wife was the victim, she would want the charges dropped after she cooled down and realized she could lose her meal ticket. Still best to let all the facts come out, though.
Only thing about that is with it being a domestic issue the State will pick the charges up 100% of the time. If the complainant doesn't give them any testimony then they will likely be dropped.
Even if the charges are dropped, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s safe from breach of contract. Depending on the circumstances, of course.

It is assault by the letter of the law. However I don't know if a prosecutor will bring charges if it is true that he graded boyfriend by the neck in his house and escorts him out of daughters bedroom
The thing is. He only is in breach of contract if Texas decides they want to enforce that. Unless it’s just so bad they don’t have any other choice Texas isn’t gonna do that imo. My guess is he’s suspended

Don’t disagree with that line of thinking. I’m just saying as far as the contract goes Texas has to want the out and I don’t think they do. Now if Beard was on thin ice as it was… he’d be gone already.

Regardless how this plays out, the basketball team is in good hands with some experienced assistants, Rodney Terry and Chris Ogden, plus others.

100%. Chris Ogden and Rodney Terry both are very capable coaches with history at UT… they’ll be fine for the rest of the year.
I would imagine that Beard might have some grounds for a lawsuit against Texas, if charges are dropped, and he is still terminated.

The breach of contract for “conduct unbecoming” is worded like that for a reason. He doesn’t have to be found guilty for that clause to be used.

Look, they can fire Beard if he has indeed broken the law. They would be stupid to do it if charges are dropped. They will have a fan revolt and an empty arena. Looks like an empty arena a la Shaka is coming regardless.

Those dudes have no tournament experience. Texas is not the place for learning on the job. This thing will unravel fast.

Rodney Terry took Fresno state to the tournament, and he has 11 years as a HC under his belt. Not to mention several years at Texas under Barnes. Under the circumstance I’m not sure you could have a better guy to step in. Is it an ideal situation? No but blame the HC for that
Why do people insist on everything being political ? This has nothing to do with Austin being liberal. Very few schools would keep their coach under these circumstances. In fact the only reason he even has a chance to survive this is because he has a history at Texas and is liked.
If UT determines not to pay, then Beard would have to sue. And the issue would be - did he violate the clause. In a roundabout way - a court will end up hearing the case. And in a civil court, to win he has to prove by a preponderance of evidence (as opposed to criminal - which is the much more stringent beyond a reasonable doubt). I highly doubt he would want to open that can of worms in a court hearing.
