Dallas - Covid Shots - How To

Hey, thanks for posting! I signed up--only took a few minutes--and got an appointment for Friday afternoon for the first vaccination.

If you are 1B and want to get the vaccine, this is how to do it.
1) Get registered on Parkland or UTSW Mychart sight. I called Parkland at thE number at this link and the nice lady hooked my up with a MyChart code. Ifany of your doctors are there, you probably can sign up directly.
2) Use the MyChart app to book an appointment.
3) I was online tonight and got one tomorrow morning. Best of all, my elderly parents got their first shot tonight.

Hookem and good health to everyone.

Did everything go as planned? I went through Parkland and have an appointment on Friday AM and would like to know what to expect.

To get your Parkland appointment, did you request a MyChart access code online? If so, how long did it take to get the code?
I'm also. concerned that requesting a MyChart access code online requires your SSN.

I had already registered but did not have a chart code.
Based on your post, I went back onto the portal and they already had approved the code and I am scheduled for a shot Saturday.
I'm a type 2 diabetic so I qualify.
Thanks again OP

I’m in Houston and am going up to Dallas. Can’t seem to find anywhere in Houston taking appointments or pre-registration.

I checked these three sites and right now they have no more vaccine time slots available. You should probably check them everyday until they list a sign up link. Also call places like HEB, and pharmacies to see if they have wait-lists that their name can be added to. My sister did this Sunday with the Waco health department when they had no time slots left. She received an email last night that there had been cancellations and she now has appointment on Thursday afternoon.

Were you able to get yours/what was the process like when you got there?

I registered at Austin Public health and have an appointment tomorrow. I got up really early this morning as I knew they would be opening up the site soon.

What is 1B?

Yes for Parkland or UTSW. Code was texted within 2-3 min. SSN was required.

@TexMexman Question: are you over 65? I am in Texas version of 1B, but it looks like Parkland is requiring 1B and over 65. Was this your experience? Thanks.

No. It’s people over 65 OR people over 16 with one of the 1B conditions.

And, they have a clause stating “including but not limited to” those conditions.

I’m amazed at Type 2 diabetics being on the list and not Type 1. One disease is completely out of your control to get, one completely in your control to prevent, and they prioritize the latter first. Unbelievable.

Got the shot today. Arm is sore tonight. Nurse who administered the shot today said that I would hate her tomorrow morning. We laughed about next morning regret. Fortunate to get a vaccination this early as a first responder in the medical gas industry.

I’ll be honest, if you’re younger and healthy, the vaccine should be reserved for folks that are more susceptible. I have a healthy friend in his mid-40s that got his shot today and I think he’s selfish SOB.
I agree that certain set of population is at a higher risk but at the same time a life is a life if you want to look at it that way. If a 40 year old wants to protect themselves physically and mentally from Covid I won't judge them. They are doing the same as the 60 year old or someone that is eating themselves to death or has pre existing conditions due to bad choices.

I know Tarrant County is actively getting it out. They’re even allowing lawyers to get it as essential workers.

Does anyone in Southeast Texas know where people are getting their vaccinations? It doesn't look like Jefferson County is on the latest distribution hub list. I have some elderly cousins in Beaumont.

For those that signed up for a vaccine at parkland what was your experience? I am scheduled for next week and am driving up from Austin, want to ensure it goes as planned

I had mine scheduled for tomorrow and was planning to drive up from Houston. Decided to call them today to verify I would get the vaccine.

Here is what I was told: anyone can go sign up, but they are currently only vaccinating existing patients of Parkland of 3 years or longer and will verify this at the appointment.

I’m no longer making the drive you unless someone who did not meet that criteria was able to get the shot from them.

That doesn't make sense, if I am there an have an appointment, then the vaccine is ready to go. Turning me away and not having somebody on the ready means it goes to the trash. I qualify for 1b, and I don't believe there are any restrictions as long as I am in the 1a or 1b.

Anyone actually get a vaccine from parkland?

I don't disagree. I qualify under 1B as well. But that's what I am seeing from all hospitals across the major areas. Prioritizing their patients.

I am not an existing patient and got my vaccine today with no issues. I would definitely make the drive.

Man, I wish this response would have come earlier today. Will reschedule for next week.

Appreciate you giving your feedback.
