Fall camp

Ok look, ask anybody around here, I’m no fan of Mack, but he didn’t make Gilbert throw 90% of his passes into the ground 5 yards in front of wide open receivers.
No he didn't. But mack bolted after Case and Ash didn't work out. Mack's a recruiter, nothing more. Good luck with Sark the shark. 😉

Ironically, it was Mack’s massive failures at recruiting QBs that led to his end at Texas. Manziel, RG3, and Jameis Winston all wanted to come to Texas.

He basically chose Ash over Manziel, and recruited him and RG3 as DBs. Winston’s HS coach called Mack’s office to inform him that his QB really wanted to go to Texas. Mack completely ignored it.

Yeah, Manziel is a douche and Winston had his issues, but that’s THREE Heisman winners that Mack didn’t think were good enough to play QB for him, but Case and Ash were! Lol. It’s so sad it’s funny.

Winston played for 2 nattys....Manziel would of won a natty with us or aggy or lost, if he would of stayed in the big 12 and rg3 maybe could of won a natty if MB would of made the right decision. I hate to say it as well but, Texas had a chance for Bomar as well. Could of there never been a Colt Mccoy? We will never know.

Simms v Applewhite controversies made it so Mack choose to never have a QB battle again at Texas.

RGIII was never going to come to Texas. He was originally committed to UH when Briles was the HC there and switched to Baylor when he took the job there. Pretty sure he never seriously considered Texas.

Maybe I am a little old school, but if this QB battle is neck and neck, then I think you go with the upper classman. And that isn't even a difficult decision. I'll be honest, Part of me still gets frustrated that freshman and sophomores have gotten overly ambitious and elect to transfer if the real world gets in the way. Look at Cameron Rising, he should be a junior, but is classified as a sophomore due to Covid's extra year of eligibility. He bolted to Utah as a redshirt freshman thinking he will be "the man". Change of plans, Charlie Brewer transfers to Utah and I am assuming Brewer will get the start. Back to Texas, Casey Thompson. has two more years of eligibility and Card has four. Casey has stuck it out and kept working. I believe (I am assuming the neck and neck reporting is accurate) I would name Casey the starter and talk with Card. Tell him he wasn't a clear winner and keep improving because every year there will be another hot shot freshman QB signee (Manning perhaps, but there is always somebody), that has the mindset of getting the start as a freshman or sophomore. If Casey gets hurt or can't make plays then it is "next man up". "Card, we are putting you in". Two years of starting QB at a blue blood school is not only a damn good feat, but it can be a career investment. If the NFL didn't work out, would your résumé look better as a starting QB at Texas or Arizona State? As far as Casey goes, if he loses the job, I totally understand the his option is to transfer. The window is closing and he has a chance to be a more productive QB for somebody else.

Well, it didn’t help that Texas was recruiting him to play safety.

Mack struggled at the QB position toward the end of his tenure that’s not really debatable. Especially when you look at the QBs coming out of the state of Texas in his last few years.

I think you’ll see both QBs play the first few games unless Sark just feels like Card has pulled away. Thompson if he doesn’t win the job probably transfers, so I think sark will keep the battle going in to the season at least for awhile. I get the feeling though it will eventually be Card

That's one thing that has killed this program the last 10 years is playing upper classmen over younger guys with more talent. Screw who has been here longer, put the best player on the field and go with it. I don't care if it's a guy who just stepped foot on campus yesterday.

Jared Wiley is a good example of this. The fact he has seen limited action the last 2 seasons is absurd. He was always better than Cade Brewer.

I agree. But, from my understanding, the ongoing issue in this QB battle is that they are neck and neck. Thus, there isn't a clear cut best player. In this case, what do you do or who do you start?

In regards to Wiley, I also agree. He is a stud in the making from what I have seen. There is no question he is better than Brewer.

What concerns is what role will the seniors who have been given an extra year of eligibility because of covid19. Imo Kerstetter, Brewer, Okafor, Jones, Imade are liabilities.

I mean in the last 2 games after Kerstetter got hurt we stopped committing false starts, missed assignments, holding, and personal fouls most of which which can be attributed to Kerstetter. And how many more chances should DK Okafor, Imade, and Brewer be given? And Jones is basically the Kerstetter of the defense considering how many personal fouls he gets called for.

Basically you can't tell me they younger players aren't better.

You by far are the most buzz kill fan of all time.

They ran a different offense with outside zone and pulling OL those last two games once Cosmi and Kersetter were out. They were not running the same OL scheme of the previous games.

a healthy Kersetter playing at RT is the best RT on the team.

No I'm not far from it. I was echoing what the poster above me said about some of our seniors. The players I mentioned aren't any good. The team that Sarkisian has inherited has talent. I don't know but if this guy flood can make merely decent players out of Kerstetter, Okafor, and Imade, then he's the Anne Sullivan of ol coaches.

We are not good at RT.

Evidently, the reason our QB's didn't perform well on Saturday is poor blocking.

Still wrong I've always been the glass is half full guy on this board but I have my doubts about Sarkisian. But if I'm wrong I'll be glad to be wrong. Mostly I'm tired of lousy coaching.

Are you speaking of Jones and Karic? I just can't see Kerstetter being better than those guys and Johnson to.

I noticed in the last 2 games guys who were buried in the depth chart played great when they finally got the chance. Karic, Major, Bijon, and on defense Ford, and Collins. I certainly hope that our new offensive coaches can finally field an offense with an identity.

Just be happy the season is coming up. Yes, our Oline is suspect but we have a 3 deep on the interior D line that will all be starting in the NFL. Our online won't be facing our Dline every week. Actually, I don't think anyone we play has an interior Dline that matches ours.
Then you might be surprised on Oct. 9. No Gerald McCoy but Winfrey is close.

Our O line is not great, no doubt, but I wouldn’t get too freaked out. This D line is like our VP, nasty and deep.

and yes okie, they’re better than your d line.
Will see in about 7 weeks. Confident about the RRS. But felt the same way for every year since 2005 which most of us knew would be a disaster. And OU didn't win them all. So figure another 6-8 point game like it has been for most years since 1958.

You OU fans are ridiculously cocky for a team that hasn't won it all since 2000.

MM, what's cocky about talking about RRS results? OU wins most of them although Sooner fans think OU should have won all of them giving the coaching and talent comparisons, at least since 2005. But Sooners don't win them all since UT usually plays better than we thought they would. Sorry I tried to give your guys a compliment. Will shut up until Oct. 9.

Since 2005? I know we’ve been down, but not that long. Our ‘08 and ‘09 teams were the best in the nation.

Well, those of us that have wanted more tight-end involvement in the offense are bound to see it this season out of necessity. Based upon all of the lack luster reports and now potential injury to Troy O., rolling with an H-back (Brewer) and TE (Wiley)with two WRs might be the way to get the best 11 on the field. Or one TE with two of our stud RBs. As awesome as it would be to have a wealth of dependable receivers, I like the idea of getting more beef on the field against some of these Big 12 defenses. MASH.
