Governor Abbott Shoots Down Harris County Judge Hidalgo's mask mandate and fine

I do not know anyone who has had this virus. Hence, it does not exist. It is all propaganda. 7000 Americans die everyday. Let's move on. We have spent enough time and money on this.

Anything else Bell?

I know WAY more people that are out of work and struggling financially than I do that have covid. In fact, I don't know a single person that has covid, but I do know people that have lost their job, have had to shut down their business, etc. because of the reaction.

The narrative that people that want the economy to open back up don't care about people dying is offensive and exactly what MM is talking about. That isn't an alternative view point. That is personally attacking someone's empathy. It is short sighted and nonsensical.

If Bowlsby cancels the 2nd Saturday in October -- then this may be the best we can get for the Red River Rivalry. Cali you better not let him plant that flag!

Like everyone else I want this to end. It's early May maybe a month from now America can go back to work. I don't have a link but doctors from the University of Washington Med school area doing wonders coming up with cures for the coronavirus. You should find the links and read it. Other states like Utah and Oregon making meaningful progress as well.

And just continue my point...how many people have filed for unemployment vs. how many people have tested positive for covid...or even better yet have been hospitalized for covid?

Someone that thinks I want people to die because I want my friends' businesses to survive by getting back to work, look that up for me.

And here I was thinking I was the only one that quotes himself. Sometimes only YOU can truly acknowledge how good your own posts are.

I was doing some additional thinking regarding this Coronavirus, social distancing issue. The only thing I can come up with is that since this primarily attacks older folks, I would be willing to gather up all older folk, say, 65 and up and have them stay in the nearest FEMA camp until this whole thing gets resolved. They were built for just this type of scenario.. That way they’re secluded and the rest of us can get back to work so we can help financially support those folks. Who is with me?

The focus absolutely needs to be on opening up the economy.....not "I should be able to do whatever I want".
We cannot wait for cases to drop to 0 or a very very low number before we do that.

For that to be sustainable, we need to have a lot lot lot more testing than what we have now. We cannot open the economy up in denial. It has to be measured. Lower occupancy in crowded places. Mutually respectful environment. If a place mandates a mask, wear it.

Unfortunately, the "freedom" that Americans enjoy and appreciate is the very thing that comes in the way of dealing with times like these. Freedom = Responsibility. This is the time to be responsible - socially responsible. Many who want things to open up do not want to be responsible.

We have to open up the economy in a socially responsible manner. Those who believe they should be able to anything they want in these times and endanger others should not be allowed to participate in opening things up.

I see many companies starting to take this measured approach and get things going again. The worst thing we can do is to rush things or lose patience. Most local authorities are taking good measures towards this. The part they do not control is the availability of testing. That is the biggest failure in this whole this. The only way to beat this and get back to "normal" is a lot lot more testing ( in some cases frequent testing).

Testing?...seriously?...testing? That is the mistake yall seem to be making. Key Govt people are tested every day....EVERYDAY!....Then out of the blue several turn up positive.....WTF?...should the tests be stepped up to every hour?

So far, they are not reliable. This virus has a loooonnnggg incubation period and they have yet to determine at what point virus shedding begins to occur.

I agree with the lack of reliability in the testing. I have myself paid 10's of thousands of dollars to care for folks who tested "positive". And deep down, I still question the accuracy of the tests. But, in those situations, I had to do what seemed best for their well-being.

There are two schools of thought on opening up..
One, where the open world (if I may use that term), is not known to be safe - where people are free to do what they want. This approach might appear to be immediate - but will eventually tone down (become more restrictive) because most people will not feel free to expose themselves to such an unsafe environment.
The other, where we open up the world as a safe place. This will take time and a measured approach. This will bring people in gradually.

There are pros and cons to both approaches. The first is considered inhumane (medically). The second is considered inhumane (economically).

I am more in the camp of the second approach. However, if things were forced to be like the first approach suggests, I would be OK with it. I would still make choices that I feel safe with.
