Cliff-notes: Texas picked up its 12th commitment for the 2018 class on Saturday, as Houston Lamar wide receiver Al"Vonte Woodard announced his much-anticipated decision.

Rankings: The Texas prep star is a high-four star prospect (6.0) by Rivals who is regarded as the No.8 wide receiver in the nation. He's also the No.4 prospect in Texas in the current Rivals rankings and is rated as the No.38 overall prospect in the nation. Woodard currently ranked No.83 nationally in the ESPN300 and No.68 nationally in 247's rankings.

Key Offers: Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Ole Miss, Baylor and Texas A&M.

Evaluation: In a year when the wide receiver position is seemingly stacked as deep as any year in recent memory, you can make a case that Woodard is the best of the lot. While the 6-2, 180-pound Woodard destroys high school defenses with his ability to beat them over the top, it's his overall blend of skill, athleticism and natural playmaking that makes him one of the nation's most coveted receivers. Woodard is a kid that is still a little raw in his development and needs to improve on his consistency like a lot of young players, but he has a natural feel for the position that allows him to be a threat all over the field. Charlie Strong used to say that he was looking for guys that he could turn a five-yard hitch in an 80-yard touchdown and that is exactly the kind of player that Woodard represents. I think he reminds me a little of Dorian Leonard, but with a little more raw explosiveness.

Why it matters:
The name of the game in recruiting is acquiring as much elite talent as possible, which can allow you to let the math work out in your favor in terms of creating NFL talent in your program. Well, Woodard is the second-highest rated commitment in this class and projects as a 50-50 or 45-55 type future NFL prospect based on data of players rated in the 6.0 range over the last half decade-plus. Plus, In the Big 12, Woodard is the type of guy that wins games for you.

Enjoy: Here’s a look at Woodard in action.
