Javian Hester watch

For the Mods, and recruiting SMEs - is this a necessary pick up? Seems we've got a pretty deep WR room, that's also young. Aren't we a bit limited on 'ships? I man, talent is talent, and if the kid is that good - great, go get him. But, I also think we have other positions of greater need at the moment.
We are already taking a small class and don't have a sure glut at WR. If we were having trouble with our scholarship limits, I might think otherwise, but we aren't. The portal fixes these problems.

@Josh Helmholdt - my understanding is the Horns will not be taking a big class in 2020(Smaller than the 2018 & 2019 classes.) because of roll backs etc etc.

Can you touch on this topic a little bit?

JJ Hester is a good looking athlete but he’s raw.

Definitely a guy that would RS and need some coaching before making an impact but the physical tools are there. I saw some good footwork and he shows the ability to go up and high point the ball.

Ball security and route running can be coached. He needs both. Brings the ball out away from body too much and rounds off his cuts out of breaks. Needs to sink his hips to drive out of breaks learning to manipulate his body for leverage because of his physical presence against most defenders. Size looks legit and speed is really good. Just glides down the field without much effort.

He hasn’t scratched the surface but that’s a really nice piece of clay.

Rivals national has Omeire as the #15 WR in the country and Hester at #28. If Hester was in Texas, the state rankings would look like this:

#1: Demond Demas (Texas A&M commit)
#2: Quentin Johnston (undecided)
#3: Troy Omeire (Texas A&M commit)
#4: Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Ohio State commit)
#5: Javian Hester (undecided)
#6: Ja'lynn Polk (Texas Tech commit)
#7: Parker Washington (Penn State commit)
#8: Marvin Mims (undecided)
#9: Trevon West (OU commit)
#10: Zeriah Beason (Oregon St. commit)

Somewhere in there is Davon Graham II (OU commit). His profile shows him as the #16 WR in the country, but he is not actually on the list of the top 100 WRs in the country when you click the link.
thanks. i’ve just never been impressed by omeire. he isn’t overly tall or fast. just seems like he’s ranked too high.

I live in Bixby, right outside of Tulsa. Awesome that we are getting the number one Oklahoma player. Bout time since they take so many from Texas
I live in Bixby as well! We got to get together and talk some TEXAS Football!
I have a friend and former teammate from Bixby. Too bad he’s a diehard Sooner o_O o_O

Hester's been pretty open to us for the past three months that Texas was his leader, but nobody seems to be talking about him.
Jason, doesn’t look like OU and Okie St are pushing hard but still a solid list. Looks a lot bigger then Demaryion Houston and I think Houston was more slot then outside but a lot of folks were excited about him last year after he committed. Houston also had an impressive offer list but It appeared the staff encouraged him to look elsewhere. Any chance of the same this year if Hester commits or does it seem like they are more sold on Hester regardless of the other possible WR recruits?

Word has been that ou and Oklahoma State aren’t pushing hard for him, for whatever reason. He’s right in their backyard, you would think it would be easy pickings. I think he’s also said that he wants to play out of state.
Living here in Oklahoma, one thing stands out compared to living in Texas ( I was born in Dallas, grew up in Austen, school in Fort Worth). Texas has a tremendous state pride attached to it, regardless of where you live. People are proud to live there or say they are from there. You don’t get that feeling at all from people here in Oklahoma. Sure there are some homers you come across, but most people seem to say they are from X Oklahoma, and are looking to get out at some point.
I just don't see it that way anymore. We Texans seem to have pride unlike any other state but you see these kids going to random out of state schools like it's no big deal (Oklahomo, LSU, Stanford.....). California has the same issue from what I can tell. You look at Ohio St, LSU and others where most kids aren't going out of state. Btw this is just my unchecked/non factual opinion.

Why is he the top player in Oklahoma when no one wants him? I can’t believe OSU doesn’t want him either.

An early commitment by JJ is a great idea.

I was just about to post this. Nice kick in the balls to ZeroU.

No way Texas doesn't take his commitment if he wants to give it, despite how Texas feels about Johnson (hasn't committed), Bunkley-Shelton (OOS grade risk), or Wilson (OOS with Oregon leading).

Everyone was more worried about DL and RB. We tend to get spoiled with a position that is overflowing with talent on the roster.
