Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (I hate to say it, but a change is needed...)

I never jury duty was a topic you couldn't joke about. My bad!

Most people do joke about it, but you are different in my mind in that you have looked to the judicial system to right some of the horrific wrongs in sports that you and your staff have reported on or editorialized about. That's the first thing that popped into my mind. So, consider my recognition of same as a high compliment. Stay the course.

I'm a member of your club. I cried and threw a chair (and then got my ass whipped by my dad) as an 8 year old after the Ice Bowl loss and then again after each *&%%$$#&*&* SB loss to Pittsburgh....and "the catch"...and so on. I grew up a Texas B-ball (and of course Football) fanatic watching them in Gregory gym. Now? Apathy towards Dallas and this B-ball team. Saddens me to say that.

Our history on this is practically identical. Felt like had we had just a bit more time we would've beat Pittsburg in the 2nd mtg. Should've beat {actually we did beat them, but the score said otherwise} the Colts, and the Ice Bowl? Talk about a home field advantage to an almost criminal degree!

Fair enough. Noted.

We had to hire a hatchet man to fire Mack and Rick Barnes. There's no hatchet man on campus right now and I still argue this school doesn't make a shit about basketball.
except he didn't hatchet Mack. He just kind of watched.

It's really hard to argue with #1. It's just disappointing. And you are right. Change is inevitable. Texas struggles to be even decent under Smart.

We don't "struggle to be decent." We AREN'T decent. We are THREE games above .500 and now a full TEN games below .500 in Big 12 play. We aren't even close to being decent.

what is decent?

so this team is almost decent.

Is that supposed to somehow be a positive? FWIW, I clearly was talking about, as was @discostu007, the program under Smart 3.5 years in, not just this season. If you would like to call this team "almost decent" then so be it. Of course, we haven't even discussed if "almost decent" is really that when you consider we are in year 4 of the program. Hell, Charlie Strong had a better Big 12 winning percentage AND finished in the top half of the Big 12 2 of his 3 seasons. Think about that for a second.

I gave no indication that it was a positive.

Garrett brings absolutely nothing to the table. Nothing! I think he should be gone much less get a contract extension. This also gives me an irritable bowel. ( Same as you Ketch but further down the line) Prescott is too inconsistent for my liking. He is also not accurate enough to take a team all the way. jmo

He predates OB.

The website generally (IIRC, we have been through various names and hosts), or OrangeBloods specifically? I forget much, but think this site lived in other forms before yahoo.

Am I suggesting ignoring his actions or not trashing the kid?

I certainly wouldn't applaud trashing the kid. Far from it. I just wish someone would explain to him that he's not "committed." He's hedging his bets which is a very different thing. I don't necessarily blame him for that but it's better we teach kids the reality of what they are doing.

I just felt like your comment seemed to say "it is what it is" and that's where I took an exception. I get that this is where things are today but that's partly due to the indifference that we, as adults in our society, have had to it. It's fine to explore your options, but don't throw around commitment like it's a token word (not you, but in general).
