Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Let me be crystal clear...)

Ketch

Number 1: Please change your avatar picture. It is giving me nightmares.

Number 2: I agree with your thoughts regarding Charlie.

Number 3: I believe (and I am interested in your thoughts on this) that what has happened Baylor (Rape U) has persuaded some decision makers to be more lenient with Charlie because of his focus on developing upstanding young men and his standards of behavior.

I spoke to a BMD that I have known well for years (before TT game) and he had the following to say. First, he pointed out how much he like and respected Charlie Strong the person. He wanted to make that clear. Second, he thought the job was too big for Charlie. Third, he believed the bigger problem was not having a career top tier AD. He wanted to make sure I knew how much he liked and respected Perrin. That he thought Perrin is outstanding attorney. That Perrin stepped in a saved UT from the disaster of bad BMD relationships that Patterson caused. But, we first need to get a real AD before we are going to be able to get the coach we want.

Ketch, I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
I think when you know you have a guy in over his head and make whatever excuses you can to keep him, you're just enabling future failure.

When you wrote this last night, were you on your "cycle"? As Trump would put it "Blood coming from everywhere". The Debbie downer of all columns. And, you lost me at soccer.
The column is the problem or the content created by the football program is the content?

Ketch sounds like the mouthpiece of a donor who wants Charlie gone. His 10 thoughts are so wishy washy and jumps to a different prediction game by game. At least the picture he used after a win isnt one of Charlie holding his head. Ketch refuses to admit the progress of this extremely young team and the progress of Charlie.

Colin,DD and Armanti are going to tear through the Big12 next year. Next years team will be the best we had since Colt Mccoy days

Ketch, if Houston wins out including an upset win over Louisville, does the number for Strong move back to 8?

Damn shame you wasted so much space in 3 of your top 4 subjects to essentially piss on Strong, Texas administration and the Big 12.
Which part in particular did you have a problem with?

Have we reached the point with this fan base after seven seasons that there's a yearning for TexAgs-style coverage?

I can't tell if if you're more wet blanket or just a bitter old man with an axe to grind. I'd have to agree that someone has pee'd in your cornflakes for you to want to torch coach this bad. Wow!
bitter old man?

I think the answer is yes for a significant portion of the fan base.

If it isn't rainbows and butterflies, they aren't interested.

It's your thoughts so it doesn't really matter what particular problem I have with it. Not even sure it's a problem moreso than an observation. I think I was pretty clear in stating I thought it was a shame you spent so much space in 3 of the first 4 points doing nothing but pissing on everything related to Texas football.

F--k no! Give me the unabashed dirty lowdown dirty truth always - no matter how unpleasant.

The truth shall set us free!

In the end, the best argument to keep Strong another year may be the lack of a true AD to conduct the hiring process for a new coach. Not to criticize Perrin, for whom I have nothing but respect, there isn't an obvious choice right now to replace Strong and we need a true professional AD to lead the search for a new coach. Otherwise, we get Charlie 2.0 all over again. In the end, that may drive Fenves' decision and may allow him to retain Charlie for another year, using the lack of a true AD as cover, without butting heads directly with BMD.

Perrin is in a unique position to turn the program around. He doesn't need the AD job or the salary, and thus doesn't have the same financial needs to go-along with the UT President that most ADs would.

As a BMD himself, Perrin has a close relationship with the top BMDs, and his influence on the UT President shouldn't be underestimated.

Would you rather us win the next 3 or lose the next 3. If winning the next 3 means Charlie is coming back and heading into the heart of recruiting season on a 5 game win streak then so be it. I'm willing to venture a guess if that happens then come signing day we'll be pretty dang pleased. And while I understand people like to imagine that somehow expectations will be low for '17, the rather simple reality is that they won't be. There's a reason why Charlie made the 10 win remark last week and I doubt seriously he's going to walk it back.

It's OK to piss on Texas football when it's on fire.

As of this morning, the Big 12 has two top ten teams in the coaches' poll, and two others that are ranked. Eight of the teams in the conference are capable of beating each other. That leaves only two on the outside, Kansas and Iowa State, and Iowa State has already played several close conference games.

The Big 12 will take criticism because it's fun to criticize, and they probably don't have a top 4 team in the country, but that is an overblown aspect when assessing the difficulty of the league.

Geoff, I hope you're OK. We're going to host a Top 10 team on a beautiful autumn Austin Saturday this weekend in front of a capacity crowd of 104,000 or so. I hope you still have the capacity to enjoy it.
I'm more than ok. It's the Texas football program that you should be asking that about.

Sure, TCU housecalled BU in Waco after we squeaked past them at home. Of course, TCU also lost in Ft. Worth to the same tech team we beat in Lubbock.

Sunday reminded me of the good ol’ days of the 90s when the Cowboys would show up in an opposing stadium with as many of their fans as opposing fans and then just pummel the opposition in such a way that it basically turned into a stats game.

Dak got his. Zeke got his. Witten got his. Beasley got his. The defense got some. Basically, everybody got theirs with the exception of Dez.

Oh well. It ain’t the 90s all over again just yet, but damnit the first eight games of this season has been fun.

Maybe I’ll even give everyone permission to dream big before the season is over.

No, please. Just so much NO!
:D

Fair, honest and accurate assessment of CS's situation by OP.

It's a lot harder to fire a guy when you're the one that has to do the firing. Is he a championship level coach? No. But many other factors at play.

I'd rather us win and fire Charlie. I don't think that we win all 3.

Recruiting is falling off and will continue to do so.

Why wouldn't Charlie walk it back? He's walked back and/or ignored other similar statements (Texas won't lose 5 games a year again).

Some people are simply too stubborn and prideful to admit their flaws or air their dirty laundry; such candid discussions are a sign of weakness to them, which spills all the way down into their sports fandom.

Ketch, you said:
No. 3 – All D’Onta, all the time ...
F. Warren has to be the favorite for the Doak Walker Award, right? Major favorite, right?

Man, that's just not right! You just insulted D'Onta and all his hard work this year :(
Noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find it hilarious that people complain every week about what Ketch writes in his column. I find it more hilarious that people complain about the column they pay to read, as if they are forced to read it.

I'm not defending Ketch, he's a grown man, he can defend himself, but this weekly angst is humorous to me. I read the info/opinions, absorb it, and move on.

Just like whiny Cuban revoked the press credentials for Tim McMachon and Marc Stein presumably because ESPN doesn't cover the Mavs regularly anymore, I suspect the 1-5 start is at the heart of Cuban's pettiness.

Many are surly bunch because Texas isn't winning.
