Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Reality Checks)

They like to proclaim that they don't believe in NIL and then they show up and enjoy the fruit of it.

Sitting in their luxury suites not believing in NIL, holding their noses at the program’s lifeblood. They sound stupid.

I hate it too, but unlike them, I’m smart enough to accept reality and donate anyway.

Thanks for starting off the column on a much needed "glass half full" perspective (and if were being completely honest - the glass is 3/4th full after the "lost decade" of Texas football from 2010-2022). Like many I suspect, I spent the weekend pissed off about giving Ohio State a free TD at the end of the first half and the awful pitch play at the goal line.

On to Arch 2025!

Your final closing comments on the OB Live postgame show was exactly what I needed to hear on Saturday morning. Please clip that somewhere in the Orangebloods social media universe and share. It will help a lot of grieving fans.

They aren't giving up hope. The bat signal is out.

The glass isn't 3/4 full, it's 9/10 full.

I'm a bacon cheeseburger guy, but every once in a while I'll mix it up with the fajita. Damn good.

love a BCB, but, quit ordering the bacon when it got so thin it had to be laser cut...

Stunningly crazy.

it's not like Texas has produced a single multi-billionaire...how the fvck are we being money whipped to the point they are still begging poors like me for cash...it's downright embarrassing

what was it?

I'm sure @Coelacanth question involved an existential reckoning

I went full @echeese with this...feels pretty good

The thought of possibly playing Georgia (regular and SEC Championship game) and Ohio State (regular season and CFP) twice next season is insane. We know college gameday will be in Columbus in Week 1.

The Icy Whites are nice but now we just need to play in whatever uniform we are supposed to play in based off seeding etc. We lost in the SEC championship and Cotton bowl wearing the Icy Whites. The allure of that uniform has jumped the shark.

Not sure if you remember but years ago I had talked with Donnie Little at the Foundation and Kevin ? before Donnie got his & Kevin's butts fired, about a long term plan to create a $1 Billion (with a B) fund for athletics. Was trying to get James Street involved to be the "face" of the plan. He passed away, Mack moved on and the plan fell apart.

This was more a long term plan so does not work as well for something like NIL but maybe time to re-visit.

The 2008 and 2009 OLs were basically the same.

Only Cedric Dockery was on the 2008 OL and didn't return in 2009. Ulatoski, Tanner, Hall and Hix were all returning starters.
And i would still take the OL that sam and specially ewers played with without even blinking.

@Ketchum So on the NIL front, from the sounds of what you wrote, there are concerns about being able to fund the NIL promises for 2025? Are the NIL funds decreasing or are they just not keeping pace with everyone else? What happened to all the money that was earmarked for Fasusi?

Great stuff @Ketchum 🤘

I grew up with the Von Erich's as well.

Count me in on the St Elmo's Fire sequel. After watching the documentary Brats on the Brat Pack I am all in on a sequel.

I love all of the films with this crew from the 80's.

It's incredible to me that we don't have a dedicated Fullback on the roster. There are dozens of great TXHSFB players that don't have the speed to go D1 but are big and seek out contact and would kill for a walk-on spot at Texas with guaranteed playing time. This would help tremendously in goal line situations and in heavy packages out of the pistol between the 20s... Not that Sark would ever consistently run power between the tackles or anything...

Hell, forget fulfilling promises. There are concerns about being able to make the promises.

If you can have 5 specialists on the roster for special teams on scholarship, you can have a fullback. ;)

It literal;y just moved to Netflix... not because Netflix wants the valuable Arkansas TV markets.
Yep. Best match ever saw in person was at Tulsa Fairgrounds was a barbed wire match between Dusty Rhodes and Tully Blanchard! All of 12 or 13 years old!:) Andre the Giant was on same card and got a high five from him!:) Great memories.

Getting a high 5 from Andre the Giant. Is that even possible? Were you on a ladder?

(sell) Not if it means a play-calling OC.

(Buy) If it means increase support staff with elite qualities
Yeah I don't doubt Sark's ability as a play-calling OC. I just feel like it has become a part-time job for him. That's what the product on the field looks like anyhow.

If they could bring in people who can free up some of his time from other areas, so he's able to truly devote himself to the offense, I think that would be good.

They need to hire a high level general manager. Someone with front office experience in the NFL to shoulder so much of the 100 million things he otherwise has to focus on.

For instance, he's been dealing with the Portal in-season.

Any chance Sark would hire an OC, someone that can assist and perhaps even take over play calling? These Red Zone issues are frustrating.
Mac 1976 Grad here....Anderson was our rival and they always kicked our asses.
Great column!
Cheers!
