Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (The latest on Micah Hudson isn't great...)

It’s top 10 running backs. Not top 10 “big game”running backs. Emmitt was a product of a system.

If you flipped situations Emmitt doesn’t register
You didn't answer the question.

Yes, playing at an elite standard when the highest stakes are on the line is what defines greanless in sports.

Not some rando game in October when nothing is on the line.,

If I answer in the affirmative, can you answer mine?
I've answered the question already.

Do we not determine the greats in all sports by the standards they create when the most important stakes are on the line?

Robert Horry has seven rings. Does that make him the GOAT or do you look past team achievements in the category?

Shit happens.

It's only in the last couple of months that the current issue popped up and since then we have both talked up Tech's chances.

Sorry I'm not perfect.

That wasn't a dig at yall. I was just telling you what I have been hearing for the last 6 months. This whole board has ignored it or chalked it up to NIL. Hope Texas does what it needs to to get him on campus and in a uniform. He is a great kid and player.

Was Emmitt the heart and soul and lynchpin of a dynasty?

Yes or no.

Yes but doesn’t make him the best rb of all time

I looked it up - these are the first team all pro instances

Smith with cowboys

Oline players - 3 players 10 times
Other players 5 players 7 times

Sanders with Detroit

Oline 1 player 1 time
Other players 3 players 4 times

Football is a team sport - one player doesn’t win a title / depth is hugely important

You argue that all the time for the longhorns about it mattering

Yes, playoff games. That's when great players' greatness is judges in every sport.

Still waiting for that top 5 list.
Dick Butkus, Gale Sayers, Larry Wilson, and Floyd Little are in the Hall of Fame and never went to playoffs. Sometimes the experts look past the obvious to judge greatness.

I'm not saying Barry wasn't a great player.

I'm saying he did not play at a high level when the stakes were the highest.

None of those other players you mentioned are in the discussion for the best of all-time at their position outside of Butkus. He has some of the same holes in his career resume.

It's why he can't be compared with someone like LT or ray Lewis.

@Anwar Richardson In your Robert Horry example, Emmitt Smith is Hakeem or Tim Duncan.

Barry Sanders is Allen Iverson without the Finals appearance.

Basketball can’t even be used as a direct comparison it’s so different

One great basketball player can carry a team

One great football player can’t

Really having to redefine your rankings to justify him.

He’s not even in top 5 Super Bowl performances.

Just rerank and admit the error

They don’t watch sports

Actually you pointed out his head coach was too dumb to give him the ball more than 11 times when he was avg 4 yards per carry

In 6 career playoff games, Barry Sanders cracked 70 or more yards one time.

Emmitt in 1992 alone.

114 yards vs. Philly
114 yards rushing and 59 yards receiving AT San Francisco
108 yards vs. Buffalo.

Save me the Barry Sanders non-sense. He was electric, but doesn't deserve to have his name mentioned in the same breath as Emmitt Smith.
Come on Ketch. Emmitt was a great back. Barry was a great back. Most people couldn’t name a single player on the Detroit Lions not named Barry Sanders. . I’m not a Cowboy fan and can name their entire starting offense. Dallas was a top 5 all time team. They had Hall of Fame players in front of Smith. This is a borderline ridiculous thread.

You’re conflating QBs and soccer strikers and hockey centers and pitcher 1 in rotations with RBs.

By your reasoning, Justin Tucker isn’t in the GOAT kicker convo bc he’s only been 15-19 in 11 playoff games over his entire career thus far.

Has any other running back ever been the lynchpin of a dynasty or anything close to a dynasty?

I’d say Terrell Davis on Denver’s back to back titles if we aren’t giving offensive lineman credit like we aren’t with the cowboys

But Davis doesn’t belong in the top 10 rbs - but I’d say he qualifies as a yes to your question also

This Micah Hudson thing has me scratching my head. That’s like choosing Michael Scott paper company because it feels better

Wouldn’t an interesting data point be that most all basketball fans think Jordan is the best of all time

But usually only cowboys fans think smith is the best of all time ?

Butkus was considered an all-time great at one point. Sayers was considered an all-time great at one point years ago.

The playoffs are a reflection of a team sport. Tom Brady won multiple rings by riding the success of his defense. Same goes for Peyton Manning.

Emmitt could have never accomplished Barry's numbers in Detroit.
