Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (The latest on Micah Hudson isn't great...)

The Emmitt versus Barry arguments between Cowboy fans and non-Cowboy fans are going to die in the next 20 years and a fundamental part of the sports dialogue will go away with them.

Hudson at Tech is laughable - doubt that ever happens. Why in the world would he chose them? He can go anywhere & he’s leaning to Tech…probably just playing games with people.

For instance I grew up a Portland trailblazers fan - my family had season tickets and I got to go to some games regularly but not all

I absolutely have a huge soft spot for drexler in my all time rankings and would rate him higher than surely almost anyone on this board - he makes my list for top all time 50 players

But I would respect fully the fact that he probably doesn’t make your list -

Barry sanders
Earl Campbell
Jim brown
Gale sayers
Oj Simpson

That’s probably it - razor thin margins

It’s like people being angry at your for ranking ewers a five star and not the number one prospect

I’ve got him at like the 6 to 7th best rb of all time out of tons and tons of great players at what was the premier position for a long time

Sanders - Played his worst football in the biggest moments

Campbell - His peak years were as good as anyone that has ever played and I understand that argument.

Jim - Understandable.

Gale - Please. Outside of a 7 touchdown game, you can tell the story of the NFL without him.

OJ - Didn't have the career that Emmitt have in any sense other than he had 5 very good peak years. I can understand someone putting him in that breath, but... OJ played in a career playoff game ... 49 yards on 15 carries.

If you sucked in the playoffs in almost every game you played, you can't be listed above Emmitt.

On a shitty team against superior teams

That his coach didn’t use him fully isn’t totally on him

You judge sarkesian partially responsible for how our players perform yes?
Iconic players play their biggest in the biggest moments.

Period.

They don't ned excuses for substandard play.

My bias is backed by a shit load of facts.

Those facts aren’t facts when considering what we are discussing

They are statistics and what happened

They aren’t facts in the viewpoint of what smith would have done if he was drafted to the buffalo bills instead of oj Simpson and what he would have been able to do on such a shitty team

Name the Pro Bowlers and Hall of Famers that Barry played with. Give me the elite coaches Barry played for that were similar to Emmitt's. I'll hold ...

He sucked in the playoffs.

Can't be mentioned in the same breath with Emmitt, who was at his best when the stakes were highest.

Name Sanders' signature game that compared to Emmitt deciding a Super Bowl when he played through a separated shoulder against the Ginats on the road.

As to answer your question, Lomas Brown was a 5-time All pro and Herman Moore was a 4-time all-po.

In 6 career playoff games, Barry Sanders cracked 70 or more yards one time.

Emmitt in 1992 alone.

114 yards vs. Philly
114 yards rushing and 59 yards receiving AT San Francisco
108 yards vs. Buffalo.

Save me the Barry Sanders non-sense. He was electric, but doesn't deserve to have his name mentioned in the same breath as Emmitt Smith.
Right on!!

Yes, they are very much the things that happened.

It makes me sad.

But, Emmitt will always have those rings

His dad played there, his girlfriend might go there and he might get 2 million in NIL from them.. oh, and he has the best relationship with their coaches.

You’re being very intentionally narrow minded in this discussion

:)

If the ole miss rb doesn’t gain many yards against Georgia is that because he isn’t a better rb than the Georgia rb ?

They get eliminated in the 1992 NFC title game and never win a Super Bowl.

Again, in the biggest gam of his life, Barry rushed for 44 yards.

In a game that was 17-10 at halftime. It wasn't in him to do more.
How many great players never won a SB? We aren’t talking about a QB we are talking about a RB. I get you are a Cowboys homer but Emmitt is no better than 5th. The guy was a 4-5 yards and a cloud of dust back. He played for a while and was a very good back but let’s not pretend he ever faced the boxes Barry faced and first contact was always well beyond the line of scrimmage.

Only Jim Brown averages more yards per game. Had over 2k rushing at 29 a year before he retires. Never rushed for less than 1100 yards and had over 1500 yards for 4 straight years. Do you need more?

I’d be ok with Sweetness or Jim Brown above him but give me a break. You bump Earl even though he didn’t have the longevity…I’m ok with that but if Barry plays another 3-5 years there is zero chance Emmitt is the rushing leader. Barry was 9 yards short of 1500 the year he retired. Emmitt had less than 1200 in 25 games as a Cardinal. Just stop already.

You're comparing Clyde Drexler's place in basketball history with Emmitt Smith's place in football history?

Probably. His QBs sucked. His offensive line was average at best. He never had a great coach. Emmitt has greater team achievements. But Barry was the better running back.
Rank Barry's 5 best playoff games for us in order.

By narrow minded, you mean I am placing an emphasis on things like winning championships and playing big in the biggest moments of your career?

Yes, yes I am.

I’m talking about human bias - do you take the time to read the posts ? I’m thinking you intentionally try to take them out of context in order to make the poster seem ridiculous

Earl from 1978-1980 might have been the best player that ever played.

You always want to land a guy like Hudson, but hard to get worried about the WR position in general knowing what is available in the portal each and every year. And we will have plenty to sell after this year from a playing time standpoint.

If it was me, I would never sign more than 2-3 HS receivers in a class at a school like Texas.

You're comparing your bias for Drexler and his place in history to my bias with Emmitt Smith and his place in history.

Your bias with Drexler isn't accompanied with the support data that mine has.

I don’t doubt he has great relationships with tech. But end of the day I doubt the kid is gonna play in the big 12 without a big name QB. Arch and the SEC and Austin will win out.

I can’t argue with the list but just from a standpoint of enjoying watching someone play, other than Earl, it was Tony Dorsett for me.

Yes, yes I am.

Let’s play the game you do when using your top music lists - because in those cases you cite experts to back up your assertions

These are not cherry picked lists they are the first results on Google - in zero of the lists is smith ranked above sanders

Are there lists that would have smith higher sure? But these were the very first lists on Google

Having smith on top isn’t absurd - but to think people with a differing opinion is absurd and small minded

I never argued for your placement of Earl Campbell. I find it quite hilarious. You have nothing to say about Barry stats as they stand up against Emmitt Smith’s. Put Emmett on the Lions teams and nobody even knows his name put Barry on the Cowboys teams, they win five Super Bowls if not more and he’s one of the three greatest players of all time.

Emmitt Smith lead lions team never makes the playoffs a single time and he’d be lucky to Rush for 1000 yards one time in his career.
