Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (When will the in-state recruiting momentum take off?)

Sark has signed 26 OOS out of 76 total signees in his first 3 classes. My initial statement was that it’s clear that Sark isn’t “hell bent” about focusing all energy on in-state recruiting. Given those numbers not sure how my statement is debatable. JFC doesn’t mean we aren’t going to completely ignore in state but CLEARLY Sark is taking a much more open approach to OOS recruiting and less hard up for in state guys than Mack. And at this point it’s become almost zero concern for me
Of course, he is emphasizing OOS kids more, and by God, he should.

Yet, I have people in this thread arguing that he MEANT to lose the in-state super blue chip prospects on purpose.

lol. Knew you were going there. That’s 1 of 4 regarding his top targets since being hired at Texas. Congrats?
The conversation is specifically geared towards what happened in 2024.

I don't need a congrats. I need you to stick to the framework of what we're specifically discussing.

BTW, @Ketchum, we offered Julian Sayin 18 months prior to Owens. I think we can reasonably conclude that had we missed on Arch, Sark would have put a HARD full court press on for Sayin and likely signing him rather than Owens

Who did we offer well before the other? Sayin or Owens? If we never sign Arch do you really think we don’t push hard for Sayin and not Owens

BTW, @Ketchum when the hell did I say I was only talking about the 2024 class? CLEARLY as my numbers show, Sark has signed OOS guys for well over a third of his classes. If you want to ignore that then that’s on you. But again, at this point I’m far less concerned about the issue.

I assume this.

While I will confess that I never heard a lot of anti-Bo Davis stuff while he was on the coaching staff, I have been a bit caught off guard by the number of people who have reached out to tell me that it was probably time for a change to occur. No one has said anything truly terrible, but it kind of feels like it might do everyone some good to hit the reset button.
Oh, yeah, will do.

Is that fair?
Great regular season player that hasn't been able to perform in the playoffs. It's probably not fair because Harden at least had some playoff success during his time. The only reason Harden doesn't have 1 championship is because he ran into a dynasty in the GSW. Can't say KC is what has been standing in Baltomore's way. Buffalo is the one getting screwed by the KC dynasty.

The quarterback position is kind of its own universe. There's no question that Sark will always go universal and national at that position.

You've never seen me once belly-ache about not going after Lagway.

Sayin reclassified after those decisions had been made. He was a 2025 offer. It was never really an Owens vs. Sayin debate.

If he could have one over the other, I'm sure he would pick Sayin.

I am talking about the success of recruiting Texas in 2024. And moving into 2026.

If you aren't having that conversation, then you can move on, I suppose.

I didn't think Baltimore's issue yesterday was Lamar.

Feels like a lot of moving of goalposts. Maybe just look at 26 of 76 signees in the last 3 classes being from OOS.

Little surprised you haven’t responded to my reply about the Weiss WR.

a. The added presence of Trey Moore coming through as a transfer has me wondering whether or not we might see a battle between Ethan Burke and Barryn Sorrell for the starting defensive end position opposite the edge spot that Burke thrived in for parts of the season in his first year as a starter. In terms of frames, Burke was listed at 6-6, 257 pounds coming into the season, while Sorrell tipped the scales at 6-4, 261 pounds, so it's not like there's anything physically (on paper) that Burke can't handle at defensive end. If you weren't going to make that move, why would you even bring in Moore (who has 2 seasons of eligibility remaining) with Colin Simmons coming into the program?
I think it's always been the plan for Burke (and Vasek) to end up at Jack. Vasek's injury cost him an entire year of getting bigger and stronger, but he will get there assuming he heals up.

Moore and Simmons are an intriguing 1-2 punch at Buck.

Are we not even close or something?
Huh?!? Of course we are. aggy being on kids lists doesn’t mean we are way behind. This isn’t the Mack years. We are not going to see many of the top end guys be all Texas from the start. The SEC makes recruiting a marathon, and so far Sark knows how to pace himself and push when needed.

Our classes will always be at a higher risk of dropping off if we do not recruit Texas well. Depending on national recruiting every year is not a recipe for success.

Have to start dominating the state again if we want sustained excellence.
What does “dominating the state” mean? If you think we have to nab most of the Top 10 like in the Mack days then be prepared to be disappointed. That’s not going to happen with the current recruiting landscape. It’s a brand new world. Just getting 3 of the Top 10 will be tough.

Yes I understand the SEC part. What I can’t understand is why Aggy is in play for so many given 1.they are aggy, 2. The seasons they’ve had recently, 3. Coaching change.

They must be offering significantly more is my only guess. Otherwise why would a top recruit even consider them currently ?

I mean...don't you think aggy and others have had the same thought after Texas has been in the cellar for the last 10 years plus?

It’s quite odd that I keep hearing of Vasek’s injury by a poster here or there yet I’m not sure I’ve read any details of the injury by a mod. And not sure how the injury cost him “an entire year” of physical growth.

@Ketchum I’ll always wonder what our boy Caldonna had loaded in the chamber re: Vince McMahon after seeing this latest scandal.

I think it came from @Anwar Richardson, would need to search to confirm. I’d wager there was a procedure done that wasn’t disclosed to us.

He didn't even want to hear "maybe".
It can be a very wearing job. Much like publisher/writer of a website (unless you can keep your sense of humor at the crazies, and remember that everyone is a crazy once in a while).

I'm specifically talking about the recruiting of super blue chips from the state of Texas. It's the only thing I really care about in the discussion and no one that has really read my work would ever suggest otherwise.

I just thought it was interesting hearing the thoughts post rumble, not necessarily needing to hear it from him.

What do you think is missing from Cody for that IT factor?
I don't know. That was really my first time watching him. Maybe I would feel different with an extended look.
