Sounds like a solid group if true.

Whoever he brings he better win 9 games 1st and 2nd yr or his ass will be gone, now that players are in placed

Hook'em
No he won't. This is the guy the boosters have been pushing for. He's gonna have a pretty long leash. Plus they just spent a lot of money to get rid of Stong.

I think Strong said 10 win no matter who coaches. When I think about the games we lost (especially last year because of sloppy special teams play) I tend to agree that most of the problem was youth and lack of depth. If everyone leaves, maybe that changes a little

So ummm......I'm going to go ahead and claim HC scoreboard over you stalking sooners.

Just let me have this little moral victory after living through this season. We lost to kansas man.....

I'll throw out a name for DC I think would be interesting. Clint Bowen from Kansas. KU isn't having much success but that defense is defenitly good enough to win. Be interesting to see what he could do with this talent and an offense that should be able to put up some points.

No. Herman has to trend improvement over the first 3 years, have winning seasons, and not lose to Kansas. Let's start there.

Ha! I don't always agree with FB, but in this case I do. The email I was sent today from Perrin via the UT Athletics Department said, "I am committed to finding someone who will have us competing for championships in short order." That's a very different view from the point when we were hiring Coach Strong and trying to clean up the program and rebuild it from the bottom up. This is meant to be a "win now" hire. The recruiting classes from the last several years support that.

The things that Coach Strong did off the field, as far as bringing in good, upstanding recruits, setting some moral standards for the program, improving the academic standards of the program, etc., set the table for Herman. He needs to keep those standards high and win big quick. I'm not going to even start going into "or his ass will be gone" because I'm going to support whoever is running our program as long as they don't do something that I can't support for morality reasons. But do I think this is a "better win quick" hire? Yes. Do I think this is a "players in place" situation? Yup.

He will win fast. Vegas had Texas' over under at 7.5 wins this year, so strong underperformed to the expectation of only 7-8 wins. The situation Herman walks into is much better than what Charlie walked into. This guy will be good, and I like he's talking about making an all-star recruiting coaching staff. We will find out quickly, because Texas goes to a stacked USC team in September next year . Question is, who will be the OC and DC??

Worst HC hire UT has made in 3 years. Herman rode Meyer's coattails into an easy HC gig where he was setup to win. There will be little to no improvement over the next 3 years. He will go the way of other coattail coordinators; Robinson, Chizik, Muschamp, Kiffin, Sarkisian, Strong, and on and on.

I know Clob is probably not happy about this hire, but would like to hear his thoughts? I would have loved to see a run at Harbaugh also, but I'll get on the Herman train. On another note, any word from Charlie F'n Strong?

I worry this is true to a degree. He was very mediocre at Iowa St before heading to OSU. Meyer called the plays and that offense hasn't lost a beat since his departure. I hope he has picked up things along the way, but it has only been 5 years since he left ISU.

To a degree every coach is a gamble. It would have been nice to get John Harbaugh, but we didn't. Herman is our guy and he is every bit the gamble that Strong was at this point.

This however doesn't mean he will fail, it only means that his odds of success are on the same level that Strong's were.

Each of these men are individuals with strengths and weaknesses, only time will tell if we got the next Charlie Strong or the next DKR. He deserves the chance to succeed or fail on his own merits.

Who has been good at Iowa State? In his 3 years there his offense ranked 73rd, 99th, and 60th. The three years after he left 94th, 97th, 92nd. His offense at Rice was ranked 10th. Ohio State 46th, 7th, 9th and at Houston he was 20th and 34th.
