****Offical Texas Baseball Thread****

You know Robo, it’s putting the cart before the horse so to speak but I like this team against the 1 seed. From what I’ve seen the last few weeks being the dog doesn’t bother this group. They almost play better in that role than as the favorite.

Well Bama almost took them down, they have a good chance to win today. But history also tells us no number 1 seed has ever won it all.

Fantastic comeback!!!!,,,I've never been prouder of Texas Baseball!!!!!,,,,,Keep up the hard work Sun nite,,,,,HOOK 'EM,!!!!!,,,,,,,I'm totally pumped!!!!!!!,,,,Kick their arse Horns!!!!

Sorry for being outta touch, but what is with the "Lacy Chabert" thingie??????,,,thx,,,,,Hookem!!!!

Florida is the best team in baseball right now. Let's hope they cool off.

No WF is the number one ranked team. They're ahead 10/3 and it's only the 3rd inning. Well that's one SEC team not going to Omaha.

aMWell there are 7 teams in the supers....but we will be in the SEC soon enough
Well one SEC team is already in. Then you have a LSU/KY matchup so it's a guarantee that one more team is in. AL isn't going, TN/SM is a tossup.

We win and it's 2 Big XII teams in Omaha

WF and VA will make 2 ACC teams

OR would give the Pac XII a team in Omaha

What conference is SM in

No sir tcu is the hottest team right now on a 10 game win streak. They are looking like last year's blowu team that made it to the natty, which scares me. And WF just spanked Bama 22-5. And LSU is scary as well built stronger than some minor league ball clubs.

Well VA and WF have punched their ticket. We're halfway there folks.

TN/SM is going to a third game

Idk why Pierce brought in Duplantier I hate him I know it's a strong word, but he needs to leave the program after this year and his brother can go with him.

The Stanford pitcher can’t stop moving in his post game interview. Looks like he took a bunch of amphetamines.

That was some old school baseball tonight. 16 strikeouts, 1 walk. Threw over 150 pitches and pitched a complete game. Props for Quinn Matthews.

You haven't watched Wake Forest play then. Their offense is unbelieveable. I watched the first 3 innings of that Bama game yesterday and they had like 5 HR's just in the first 3 innings lol. They ended up putting 22 runs on the board.

I hate to be that guy but to me that's malpractice by the Stanford coach to leave that kid in to throw 150+ pitches. Last weekend he threw over 200+ pitches in a 3 day span. This is the reason half the pitchers in the MLB are either on the IL or having Tommy John surgery before the age of 25.

Pitching, pitching, pitching... Texas doesn't have it. I think we lose tonight. This team has over achieved at this point. Pierce still makes me crazy.

Agreed

They have 2 starters with sub 3 ERA's this year. Gordon was the Big 12 pitcher of the year. Pitching is what got them through regionals. Morehouse has been really good this postseason as well. Hurley pitched pretty well Saturday night. I don't think it's fair to say they don't have pitching. The thing they don't have is bullpen depth, but then again there's not a lot of teams at the collegiate level that go 4 to 5 deep in the bullpen.

Stanford's offense is just really good. They averaged just below 9 runs a game this season.

Also have to add that we were 9th in team ERA in the entire country this season.

Bama is not a very good team. Pitching and defense have been a problem for them.

Ya I watched that yesterday. They were knocking the cover off the ball.

Which is crazy to me because--- check it out--

There was a documentary that came out a few years back called "Fastball" (excellent btw)..

Obviously the GOAT Nolan Ryan is interviewed. A man that at age 46, the day he finally blew out his arm, was still throwing 97 mph late into his starts- said that his AVERAGE pitch count per start was "140 maybe a 150" a game.
Did you know Ryan had 3 games where he threw over 200 pitches? One game he threw 235-- in 13 innings.

Ryan had over 300 games where his pitch count was over 130.

Now before you say it-- I get it. It's Nolan Freaking Ryan.
God himself reached down from the heavens and kissed his right harm. He's the freak of all freaks. But to me (maybe I'm wrong) it just seems that guys aren't capable of the longevity that players from back in the day had.

You know--- when pitch count wasn't a thing. When it was about simply winning and losing a game.

Yep, I think I heard a theory about how modern weight training and throwing motions has an effect on that. It basically says that players muscles are much stronger today and their joints and tendons can't hold up to the torque caused by throwing curveballs and those type of pitches where your arm has to twist. No idea if true or speculation but some think it is a factor. There is no question that something has changed though.

I think a lot of it has to do with kids literally playing baseball all year round nowadays. My nephew played in a tournament 40 out of 52 weekends last year. And they are playing multiple games a weekend. It's not uncommon to play up to 8-10 games in a 3 day span. These kids are getting a ton of wear and tear on their arms at a very young age. Also back in the day it was very uncommon to see a guy eclipsing the 100 MPH mark. Nowadays it seems like every MLB team has 2 to 3 guys throwing 100+ MPH. Hell even in college now you see kids throwing 100+.

Also kids throwing breaking balls at very young ages when they shouldn't be.

Nolan Ryan was a just a freak of nature. He was literally a one of a kind. And he worked his ass off to stay in shape and play as long as he did. He was one tough SOB and there's no telling the amount of injuries he played through back then.

Hell I thought it was great screw the pitch count. I didn't see the post game interview but he deserved every bit of praise.

In a win or go home situation he
Struck out 16 batters
Only walked 1.

Their bullpen was worn out and let's face it they choked on game 1. If we can get to their bullpen I like our chances.

You say screw the pitch count because it's not your arm lol. This kid has a professional career ahead of him. He was already drafted coming out of high school but chose to go to Stanford. He's likely a top 3-4 round pick in this years draft. Last weekend he threw over 200 pitches in a 3 day span and then last night 156. That's almost 400 pitches in less than a 7 day span. I just don't think it's a great decision with all the medical evidence we have nowadays.

But with all that said it was definitely a great performance, i'm not taking that away from the guy at all.

He was their only pitcher with a sub 4 ERA. I like our chances a lot tonight. We have all of our pitchers available except for LBJ. Even Gordon is available.
