Tommy John surgeries up because kids are playing year round at a young age way more than they were 25 to 30 years ago. That wear and tear adds up over time. Also the average velocity of a fastball is up almost 5 MPH from where it was 20 years ago.
Bill Russell once said the 2 best words in sports were game 7. Now this isn't game 7 but it is win or go home and needless to say there's a lot at steak here.

Maybe stop that grift then and stop whining about pitch counts.
Nobody limits the catcher or SS
Since when are the catcher and SS fully exerting all their energy into 100+ throws a game lol. SS and catchers arent throwing breaking balls either. Just because guys threw 150+ pitches a night back in the day doesn’t mean that was the right thing to do. There’s tons of medical data available today that wasn’t available back then.
I just know if that was my son and he had a professional career likely ahead of him I’m not letting him throw almost 400 pitches in a 7 day span.

You lost me there. Today is a winner take all. Game 3 of best of 3 series. We won Saturday, they won Sunday. Today game decides the regional winner to move on to the college World Series.
SS and catchers play every game. They throw in between innings, in practice, etc. Their arms get plenty of work. Also, Since when does every pitcher throw max effort every pitch? You know some guys pitch and not just throw the **** out of the ball right?
All I know is I’d trust my 4 year player, 22 year old son to know his arm.
Nothing quite like a pitcher with a lead off walk after the offense ties the game up.
