Players vs Boosters

This is an encouraging sign to me..........but i'm not expert either.........

I actually don't mind the players standing up for their coach. That said it needs to show on the field to because pocket books are bigger than words. Show it on the field boys!

Guys who miss tackles don't tell guys who write checks what to do. The boosters would be wise to be less up front in all this. It makes the job look less attractive, the the next guy. But it won't matter, because the checks they write override all the issues they cause.

Strong is more of a parent than a football coach. They love him but they do not respect him enough to go out there and do what they are told . You do not respect a coach if you go let a mediocre team put 700 yards on you.

I don't doubt that those are their feelings, but I seriously doubt they said that to the President

State of Texas public employees, HC and staff.

Will a bunch of kids transfer, like with Briles at Baylor? I don't think so. Austin is the biggest sales point for UT in the Big 12. TCU has the only other city in league.

That's stupid. They love him and they respect him. He's just not a good coach, and the translation is they aren't playing well. Lack of respect is not the only reason for lack of execution.

So how did he go from a really good coach at Louisville to the worst coach in UT's history...u think they respected him to death to get him to this point. No , you do not respect somebody and do what they do on the field. It is embarrassing with the talent they have recruited the last 3 years.

Because he's a really good recruiter. And at Louisville he created a good talent gap between him and his competition, now he doesn't have that luxury, and he's being exposed. He's being out coached and he doesn't have the most talented team week in and week out. That's pretty much the biggest worry when you hire a guy from a smaller school to come and coach in a bigger league. It has nothing to do with his players not respecting him.

And what you just said worries me about T Herman! 2 years in at an AAC school and everyone is jumping up and down as if he's won an NC.

It's a legitimate concern. Although Herman won right out of the gates, but yeah there are plenty of coaches that have failed to make the jump to larger programs and it's not due to lack of respect or forgetting anything. They are just exposed.

Lets say he goes 7-5 and wins his bowl game and keeps his job. Are the lemmings going to go over the cliff?

I am going to complain on the internet. I don't know if that figuratively going over a cliff or not.

We all understand you cant win every game in football but it is how you lose sometimes is just as important as how you win. If the rest of our wins are all overtime wins and the rest of our losses are 40 point blow outs and our defense giving up 600 plus yards then hell yes...7-5...cya Charlie.

I think the players need to make their voice heard by playing better. You want to keep your coach then play like champions and help him by winning games.

Your words are meaningless if they can't win football games. Alumni want wins not excuses and not a bunch of kids crying about their coach.

You want to help, tackle better, cover receivers better, get more sacks, play like you love your coach for the next 7 games. You do that and Charlie Strong will keep his job.

various thoughts on this
1. Its BS. Why on earth would the president of the university meet with players to discuss boosters?
2. The boosters, although they may be talking out of line, have not caused the players to be terrible at fundamentals. Thats on the players. Thats on Strong.
3. Players are at the school for four years. Coaches are at the school until the school stops paying them. Their allegiance lasts only as long as their paycheck. Alumni outlast them all.
4. It doesn't matter how much the players like Strong. Some of the worst coaches in history were well liked by the players.
5. If they really want to save his job, they could, by winning.

Winning fixes everything :)

Do you not listen to the media? They call him an assistant coach and terrible things like that, and expect him to field a well coached team who shows improvement each week. How can anyone succeed under those conditions.

Strong did not hellp his case by going 13-17... and don't give me this.. he didn't get the support of the president. The president got on the damn plane and went to get his offensive coordinator for him

I was being sarcastic in case you didn't know. Strong repeatedly says he has support from the administration. The media stirs this stuff up and it is usually exaggerated to create controversy..

gonna get ugly.....

Super K @SuperK_TFB

Per a source, a #Texas defensive players told Greg Fenves to, "tell the boosters to back the f**k off and let coach Strong do his job"

9:27 PM - 10 Oct 2016
Lemme esplain a little something to those of you that don't know.

At MOST state schools, a Scholly given to a kid comes from "state money". It comes out of the schools budget.

At Texas, all football schollies are paid by BOOSTER DONATIONS. We get given soooo much money that there's no need to use school money.

Players should KNOW this--- and remember who butters their bread.

sorry, I did not mean my "and don't give me this' directly at you. I think he has had a tremendous amount of support. It just did not work out.

Let's assume (ha!) that he beats KU and ISU. That's 4 wins. Will anyone really be pleased with the progress if he goes 3-2 against TCU, Baylor, Tech, WV and KSU? Basically, treading water against the middle of the conference, in year 3 of his contract?

Pleased no, but I doubt he'll be fired.

Strong can't say he doesn't have the support of the admins, which he didn't under Patterson and this is just his first year with full support and it might well be his last. Being able to hire the best staff is part of being a successful HC. Hiring Watson was a bad choice, but losing Rumph and Vaughn were hard hits that have not been replaced adequately by Haley and Jennings.
