A potential union between Florida grad transfer linebacker Kylan Johnson and Texas is definitely trending in the right direction.

Johnson, who played quarterback at Dallas Skyline, recently applied to become a grad transfer at Texas and is currently working on the admissions process, according to a source. He has not verbally committed to UT, but Johnson’s application shows the Longhorns are definitely in the mix. I was not given a timetable as to how long it takes before a potential grad transfer receives a verdict from UT.

De’Gabriel Floyd is expected to miss the 2019 season after being diagnosed with spinal stenosis, and the Longhorns are very thin at the linebacker position. The addition of Johnson would give Texas an additional player to compete for playing time in that linebacker room.

According to Florida’s website, Johnson played in all 13 games and started two (Charleston Southern, Colorado State) at linebacker in 2018. He compiled 27 tackles and two pass breakups, but had a season-best four tackles against Kentucky and Colorado State.

I will keep you posted.
