Realistic head coaches for Texas.

Herman will get his full 5 years, unless the wheels come. I don't see the wheels coming off or even close to it, this year or next.

Man... they’ve come off.
Maybe if we are talking Alabama or ou, but at Texas, the wheels coming off are successive losing seasons, successive blowout losses, blocked field goals.... Herman will be here this year and next year.

We have to go all in with Urban Meyer at this point. He’s the best option and anything less than him at this point would be a disappointment.

while I agree that Urban Meyer is by far the best coach out there the idea that he is the only one that can get this done I don’t buy. The fact is we have done a shitty job of hiring head coaches. We have fallen in love with the flavor of the month or let the results of one or two games dictate who we hire. Stop doing that and We’d be fine.

That’s a different issue. Yes overtime you have to build the relationships, but the idea that you HAVE to have those relationships coming in to Texas is just not the case. Why limit your search to such a small group of people.

Take PJ fleck since I mentioned him. He’s an engaging guy, energetic personality, history at winning at two programs that don’t traditionally win. The idea that he couldn’t build relationships with Texas high school coaches over time is a bit silly.
I personally want to win NOW ... not in a couple of years after Fleck has had time to build relationships. Not saying he couldn’t build those relationships. I just prefer instant credibility and a winning program in year 1.

Any coach with any kind of resume is going to bring credibility. Recruiting should be the least of Texas’s worries when looking for a coach. If you hire the right guy they’ll come. There is talent here to work with too they’ve just underachieved

Saw a stat since 2017 Herman has lost six games to unranked teams while being ranked. Most in the country. What a GD joke.
Yep. Which is why when Herman was hired and people kept going back to his recored against ranked teams or picking out a single win I was like so what? Herman May of been the right fit at Texas later in his career. He wasn’t when he was hired though.

I'm not so sure it's coaching that's causing your problems. You fire Herman, and it's not to hard to imagine him going to a Florida St, or a Utah, or something like that, and being really successful.

To me, what you guys have been missing since Colt McCoy, is a game-changer at QB.

You guys have missed on some big in-state QBs over the past decade. Luck, RG III, JT Barrett. Heck, I'll even throw Murray, Hurts and Mayfield in there (but not Johnny Football). Any one of those guys might have gotten you one or two more Big XII championships.

Football has changed in the past seven years. A great offense, with just an okay defense, can win it all now.

Give Herman someone truly electric at QB. Someone who can put an offense on their back, and will the team to victory. Then I think you'll see things change.

I agree with that 100% as well. Sam is good but he just isn’t that game changing QB like VY or Colt was. Hopefully Ewers is that guy. I have watched him play live a couple of times and he has one of the strongest arms I have seen at the HS level.

Wouldn’t be shocked to start hearing Justin Fuente rumors. Asst under Patterson at TCU, built that Memphis program in to what it is. Has done a nice job at Va Tech. He’s been down 22 players and his DC the first two weeks of the season and looks like he’s about to go 2-0... that is what you call leadership.

Hes probably a guy near the top of CDC’s personal list I would say.

Sam may not be VY but dude put up 60 points last week and threw another 4 TD passes today. He’s plenty good enough to win. Urban Meyer would probably have a national championship with Sam

See my post above. Urban will have immediate credibility with the players/coaches.

Never said he couldn't build those relationships. I said it would need to happen elsewhere. Texas isn't a stepping stone. It is a fricking blue blood and needs a coach that has been successful at a blue blood.

I don’t think Sam is good enough to win a championship. He just doesn’t have that it factor like those elite level QBs do. He always has 3-4 games a year where he struggles like he did today.

Those QBs you mention also have championship coaches urban Meyer would win a championship with Sam

Urban Meyer wants to coach at Texas and our Admin is fvcking around with this junior wannabe head coach. I hope Conti makes a phone call today to Meyer to tell him to get ready.
We don’t know that Urban actually wants the job. We just know he likes trolling Tom Herman

It's Meyer or bust.
Are we even sure Meyer wants to coach? I kinda get the feeling he’s kind of enjoying being “wanted” but not all that interested in taking a job. We should probably talk about this as if Meyer is not coming here and be surprised if he does. Besides if Meyer is the only coach that can win here. That’s a problem in itself

As a Buckeye who has followed OSU for a long time, I can say your chances of getting Meyer are very, very low. He does have real health problems and it would be very difficult on his family (be away from children and grandchildren) to move to Texas. If he were interested in coaching again, he would be angling for USC where he would be an absolute rock star and an immediate winner with being able to dominate So Cal recruiting and also having a very attractive place from which he could recruit nationally. Only way he will ever coach again is if he gets bored and somehow his health improves -- can't be lured with money.

One potential hire for Texas might be Luke Fickell of Cincinnati who has had a very good record and turned down Michigan State last year.

Going and getting another small school head coach to come in and drive this monster will end the same way Charlie did and Tom will.

Ficklle is a little different than Charlie and Herman he did have one year at Ohio State as interim coach when Tressel got fired. Managed to get to a bowl game then got to learn under Meyer for 4 years. Now he’s looking to win double digit games at Cincinnati 3 years in a row. I’d be willing to bet on Ficklle being a success more than I was Herman or Strong, but I think there are power 5 coaches who are getable.

If we can’t lure an A list coach to Texas then that says a lot about our stature. I don’t want a B list guy hoping he’s successful. Go for the 2 or 3 A list guys and if they say no then we’re F’ed.

What is an “A” list guy? Is Meyer the only guy who is considered “A”? If that’s the case prepare yourself for disappointment. I put it at 10% Meyer comes here. 25% chance he coaches again at all

I’ll throw an outside the box name. Mario Cristobal got his start as the first ever head coach at FIU. Managed to get them to a couple bowl games. Went to the Nick Saban school of coaching as Bama’s OL coach. Got the Oregon Job when Taggett left, and has gone 21-6 with a rose bowl win in two years there. Not only is he a good HC his speciality is coaching OL perhaps are weakest position

Which is why Urban is on a very short list of candidates.

But hell, it doesn't matter. Herman will be back next year.
