DE Mark Jackson of Cibolo Steele will be making his commitment in about two weeks. He spoke with the UT coaches this weekend, he'll visit A&M next weekend and decide the following week. OrangeBloods likes UT's chances but I think the smart bet is the Aggies.

OrangeBloods had a little more on DE Mark Jackson of Cibolo Steele and said he actually made a surprise visit to campus yesterday with his mother. Not sure how much it matters in the bigger picture, but he wants to major in business.

DE Mark Jackson discusses his unofficial visit to Texas on Saturday (24/7):

“It went well,” Jackson said. “It was my first time taking my mother with me. We went around campus, and I got to learn more about the education. I want to major in business, and they have one of the best in the world. Everything on the football side was great, too.”

“My mom loved it,” Jackson said. “She really liked Coach Strong’s character and the level of education at Texas. Coach Strong told us a lot about the networking opportunities after college, and he really pushed being in Austin. He also told us about playing for Texas and the pride that comes with it.”

“It pushes Texas up a little bit,” Jackson said. “But right now, it’s still Oklahoma and A&M then Texas and Baylor. I’m going to think about it a lot more before making my decision. I definitely want to make it at the beginning of summer.”

Update on recent OL offer Donavaughn Campbell of Ponchatoula, LA (OrangeBloods):

"I'm definitely going to Austin, definitely going to visit. I don't have anything set up yet."

"I have an interest in Texas and everywhere else," Campbell said. "I committed to LSU because it was somewhere I wanted to be. But I'm looking around to make sure I made the right choice."

"Me and coach Brick have been talking for a while. He was asking if I was afraid to leave Louisiana, I said 'No.' Then they offered. Me and coach Brick have been cool since he's been recruiting me since two years ago at LSU. We talked on Friday afternoon, he put coach Strong on the phone and he offered me."

Per OrangeBloods, RB Kameron Martin did not make it to the coaches' offices this weekend. He spoke with Strong on the phone before he left campus.

Is Kam Martin trolling or is this dude going to flip. It seems Strong has answered all his questions and he still hasn't flipped even though he give every indication that hes going to. Doesn't make sense to me.

No clue.

3-star WR Eddie McDoom out of West Orange (Winter Garden, FL) was offered today. Great name, huh? McDOOOOOOOM!!!

He's sitting on 21 offers with all but five coming from top programs.

McDoom:

1.) Offer on name alone.
2.) Teammate of QB Woody Barrett.
3.) Start carpet bombing South Florida with offers like last year
4.) Profit

Per Scout, Coach Haley was at Trophy Club Byron Nelson yesterday to see DE Brandon Bowen.

Scout saying a coach saw TE Jack Stoll of Aurora, CO yesterday as well.

According to Scout, UT visited WR Tre Nixon of Melbourne, FL yesterday too. A few coaches are supposedly in South Florida right now going to several schools.

TE Peyton Aucoin of New Orleans, LA received an offer from Notre Dame today. Figured it was worth a post since they usually produce solid TEs and stole Durham Smythe a few years ago.

Update on SDE Caleb Roddy of Denham Springs, LA (24/7):

“Coach Haley came by practice, and I talked to him afterwards on the phone,” Roddy said. “He said an offer could be coming my way. The next day I got it. It’s a huge offer. I’m glad they offered me.”

“Coach Haley is pretty cool,” Roddy said. “He’s one of the best defensive line coaches in the country. I know Texas is on the rise, for sure. They signed some big-time players in their 2015 class. I know they really focus on defense."

“I want to make a visit there this summer. I just want to get a feel for the city and see if it feels like home. I also want to build relationships with the coaches and get to know them.”

Highlights from Higdon's chat:

- Texas is making a very serious run at DT Marcel Southall no matter what happens with DT Kendell Jones. At DE, both Brandon Bowen and McTelvin Agim are going to get a lot more play moving forward (assuming DE Mark Jackson picks A&M or OU next week, which is pretty likely). Haley is seeing Bowen today, in fact.

- Biggest question mark (if you can call it that) is TE recruiting, since we need two TEs this class and a lot of them are already committed or close to committing. But Higdon's not worried.

- Top defensive ends on the board are Justin Madubuike, Brandon Bowen, and McTelvin Agim, with Erick Fowler right behind.

- Texas has a real chance with both cornerbacks Kristian Fulton (La.) and Trayvon Mullen (Fla.) if they come to campus... Texas will find out about Mullen as they continue to hit up Florida and Fulton has already announced he plans to visit Texas during the summer.

- Likes what he's hearing from TE Jack Stoll. Texas will see him this week.

Q: "Would Texas allow Christian Wallace to commit if he wanted to?"

Higdon" "This is one of those questions where if I were to answer with a "No" it would be pretty bad I think."

- pecking order for DBs:

Brandon Jones
Eric Cuffee
Deontay Anderson
Parrish Cobb
Kristian Fulton
Trayvon Mullen
Christian Wallace

- DT Kendell Jones, OL Patrick Hudson, RB Devway Whaley, RB Trayveon Williams, CB Eric Cuffee, DE Justin Madubuike, DB Brandon Jones, LB Jeffrey McCulloch, LB Dontavious Jackson, S Deontay Anderson are "must-gets" for Strong & Co (i.e. Strong and his staff have identified these targets as such).

- Texas is seeing OT Kellen Diesch today, and are all over South Florida.

- Deontay Anderson, Brandon Jones, and Wallace are all ahead of Eric Monroe. Not much progress on the Monroe front, he's pretty infatuated with LSU.

I like the way things are progressing with Madubuike...I think Texas is making strides with Kellen Diesch but need to watch the SOE for him and Arkansas....and Texas is working really hard on Brandon Bowen

- Watch out for the Vols with QB Xavier Gaines. He'll get a visit from the Texas staff by next week at the latest.

- Some coaches use Strong's sternness and perceived harshness to negatively recruit against UT... "Oh don't play there come play for me and I will let you do whatever you want", etc. One coach in particular. :D Fatass drunk DJ.

- DE Erick Fowler and DT Ed Oliver are guys Texas is losing steam with... Texas has work to do with both guys.

- (Expanding on Fowler: his position coach is an LSU grad and has really been in his ear.)

Dee Anderson was apparently dismissed from his HS team. You can probably scratch him off the list.

Coaching staff hustling nonstop.

ATH Christian Wallace (Sealy) yesterday:

Per OrangeBloods, UT saw LB Dontavious Jackson of Alief Elsik yesterday.

Texas also saw LB Jeffrey McCulloch of Aldine Davis yesterday, per 24/7.

Scout claiming Texas has offered two Arizona prospects but 24/7 saying these offers are not legit at this time.

We also just offered 3-star CB UGA commit Malek Young out of Coconut Creek HS (Pompano Beach, FL):

Scout saying UT visited DT Kobe Jones of Starkville, MS this week:

http://247sports.com/Player/Kobe-Jon...titution=14278

Also, 3-Star Lousiana DE Caleb Roddy says Arky is no longer his leader and has started retweeting a bunch of Texas edits - things are looking up there.

Interesting piece of news from Jason Higdon on OT Kellen Diesch:

Kellen, I believe could be close to making a decision, and it should come down to A&M, Texas and Arkansas at the end of the day. Notice that OU isn't among his top 3. On cue, SoonersIllustrated writer Bob Przybylo chimed in:

Believe 100 percent the Diesch/OU ship has sailed. Diesch has been an OU fan forever and visited for junior day and for the spring game. But three weeks ago the OU coaches tweeted "817" for the next commit. Everybody assumed it was Diesch and even some reported it like a done deal (which was incredibly embarrassing to be associated with that junk). Problem was it was the first Diesch had heard about committing to OU. When I asked, his answer: "I have no idea where that came from." The "817" in question turned out to be junior college receiver Ryan Parker, who is originally from the 817 area code. I've thought for the last couple of weeks Arkansas was the school to beat for Diesch, but I think I can safely say Sooners are not in this one anymore.

Seems that way, tough loss. But I can understand him. Imagine that beast playing for that D for four years. Man...

Offer watch:

Update on WR Dee Anderson after being dismissed from the West Mesquite football team (24/7):

"I talked to them (Texas) about the situation, and they said they are going to stay with me,” Anderson said. “Texas is coming at me hard. You know, I’ve been up there for a visit and I like the atmosphere and everything up there.”

“I like Coach Norvell a lot,” Anderson said. “He’s nice. He is a real players coach, so that’s what I really like about him. We usually talk every week or every other week, so we keep in contact and are building a good relationship.”

“I’m a solid with LSU right now,” he said. “I’m just going through the process and seeing what the coaches have to say.”

OrangeBloods
saying TE Jack Stoll of Aurora, CO will make an unofficial visit to campus next Wednesday. He will be visiting Colorado and Nebraska afterwards and could make a decision anytime thereafter.

According to 24/7, Coach Haley saw DT Ed Oliver (Spring Westfield) and S Eric Monroe (Galena Park North Shore) today.

Coach Norvell saw TE Donte Coleman (West Mesquite) last night and WR Devin Duvernay (Sachse) today.

Quotes from TE Donte Coleman of West Mesquite after Coach Norvell attended his practice (24/7):

“Texas was a big offer for me,” Coleman said. “It’s just a big program with the history and Charlie Strong and what he’s doing there. I’m still learning more about them and how they use their tight ends in their offense.”

“Coach Traylor and I keep in touch,” Coleman said. “We’re building a pretty good relationship, so I’m asking him questions and things like that. He’s recruiting me hard. I like him”

“I’m 100 percent committed to Texas Tech,” Coleman said. “Colleges have come out to talk to me and offer me, and I listen to what they have to say. But at the end of the day, I know where my heart is at.”

Inside Texas had a good article yesterday on some JUCO prospects on UT's radar.

Coach Traylor has been on both Tuamasaga and Rhodes:

A few notes and maybe more than a glimmer of hope at the QB position:

This dude is always very dialed into going on with things

There's a growing sense around the program that both QBs are showing signs that they are much improved since the beginning of spring, but word is that Heard is really making an impact so far in organized work-outs. In what could be described as "growing confidence", several guys I spoke to think he's showing consistent signs that his confidence level is changing the way he plays and his teammates have noticed. One of the guys today specifically said his workouts have looked like he is the better play-maker. Key quote: "he's just making more plays and doesn't have that same 'drive the bus' kinda feel to him. He takes more chances but he also shows flashes I haven't seen around here at QB for a while".

When looking at this program right now as it relates to the 2015 incoming class one thing is crystal clear: The incoming WRs and DBs will have every opportunity to make their mark and that the 2015 version of the Texas longhorns will not just need them to but might depend on several being ready to play right away. On the DBs, one of the biggest concerns the staff has is a lack of physicality as a group, while the WRs lack consistency and big-play ability. It's wide open.

I asked about the 2016 class and if there's any concern about the perceived slow start. While the staff has had to re-evaluate a few positions and look more OOS based on need and available in-state talent, the feedback coming from recruits is that they need to see what Texas does on the field this year. With the biggest competition coming from programs like LSU and Texas A&M, there's going to be some negative recruiting going on and Texas really just needs to take care of business on the field this year and show that the program is headed in the right direction. Sounds kinda funny to say, but 8 wins and an improved offense would go a long way to proving something to a lot of these kids especially with the number of freshmen expected to get meaningful PT this year.

One thing I really wanted to ask about was Texas being in the big 12. I rarely get much feedback on this but heard a few interesting things. One of the options Texas was considering a few years ago was the ACC. Texas having their own network was a sticking point apparently but the feeling was that something could be worked out with ESPN and the ACC. But Texas and OU wanted to wait things out and see what college football would look like in 5-7 years before making any drastic changes. From what I was told it does appear that the ACC (or at least some sort of conference tie in with them) would be the first choice in the future if Texas went another route. Obviously, Texas is going nowhere soon but thought it was worth mentioning because it appears there is interest on both sides and some key UT leaders (academic and boosters) would love that move.

I always thought the Big 10 would be the best fit for you guys, would make that a very interssting conference with Michigan, OSU, Nebraska, Texas, MSU, Penn State, Wisky

. Texas at Bama, LSU in Austin. Arkansas Rivalry again. Texas in Gainseville, Georgia etc. The SEC would wet their pants.

I always thought the American Athletic Conference would be a better fit for aggy. I mean, you talk about competing for championships every year and that is the only conference I can think of that you could win on a consistent basis.

Actually, DJ Rumlin was never able to win the American Conference. Even with Art Briles' players.

Lol, WTh happened I just said that I thought you guys in the big 10 would be interesting and you guys start crying? It wasn't a where you can compete thing just a spot that I thought would be cool for you guys to compete in. The SEC is out so which other conference do you feel you would fit best in and would have a more interesting schedule? Pac 12? ACC?

...which other conference do you feel you would fit best in and would have a more interesting schedule?
Faulty premise. Our schedule is fine as is, provides the easiest path to the playoffs and is also abut to include the likes of ND, Michigan, tOSU, LSU, Cal and USC. We'll go ahead and stay in our conference. We don't have to run away to another one to make a name for ourselves.

When it comes right down to it, without the LHN, Texas can land in whatever conference they are willing to play in.............Cash Cow
