Recruiting Thread 2017

Seems like noise more than smoke. Tra must not be well connected to the situation.

Higdon made a few maddeningly vague reference's to issues with Carson a couple of months ago. Hopefully whatever may have been going on is getting cleared up.

None of the boards are reporting anything on Carson. Saying it's beyond grades implies legal troubles or expulsion? Regardless of you posting regularity it's pretty bullshit to be cryptic with stuff like that. Especially when you try to force field it with a "take it for what it's worth", "hearing news"

Does anyone still pay attention to anything Higdon says? The folks I speak with regularly had info he clearly didn't during the past recruiting cycle. He's a tool that speaks in circles.

Really? I think it's very much the opposite. He pretty much kicked everyone's ass last recruiting cycle (and in 2015 as well).

My #source let me in on Kyle Porter being in the fold and Higs was blindsided by it. He gets intel, but he's a tool and doesn't get everything, only what gets fed to him. I was told on January 23rd that Porter was in and Higs was saying we weren't taking a RB. I can't stand the dude.

No one's sources are going to be 100%. Even if your source is Strong himself, plenty of coaches get blind sided with recruiting news. The problem with these guys is they get full of themselves, and feel it's necessary to give off he illusion of always being right. They can't just be straight forward. Some of these guys just cold read their subscribers until a piece of info comes along that somewhat fulfills the story line they already started.

He doesn't get everything right by any means, but his record was far better overall last year than OB's or 247's. Nahlin is the only other guy that seems to have a clue, honestly, but IT has zero high-level connections in the football program or the AD (Jesus Shuttlesworthless's humidor bullsh*t being pure fan-fiction). Higdon's sources are also a lot more varied than just what the coaching staff tells him. Whether you like him or not, his cumulative record last year made the other sites look terrible.

For me, it's probably more of an I think hes a douche. I kept an eye on his info throughout the 2015 class, but he lost me after that.

Seems that anyone In the know is being very quiet about things or it could be nothing, however since the rumors seem to come from Texas mods on their respective boards it would appear that there is some merit to it. Who knows
It is being kept under tight wraps for now. But it does go beyond school and grades.

Then I will stop! Thanks for the heads up!

Scout is expecting WR Devin Duvernay to pick Texas if he follows through with an announcement today.

The 2016 Baylor signees are still mired in a holding pattern, but the first limb could fall from that tree this week. While Devin Duvernay is technically a free agent, this will be the first movement in the wake of the Baylor scandal. Let’s take a look at where Texas stands with the athletes currently linked to them.

Devin Duvernay – Duvernay wrapped up visits to Austin and Fort Worth in the last week, and while he enjoyed his time at both places, we are sticking with the sources we’ve had since the very beginning. It is our belief that Texas will come out on top for the dynamic receiver when he makes a decision this week. Texas was able to sell Duvernay on a role in the new offense that no one else could fill, and the players on campus were able to do their part in recruiting the dynamic speedster. To be clear I’m not saying this is over, but sources on all sides indicate that Texas is in a great position here. If and when Devin’s brother Donovan receives his release from Baylor, we expect him to have a spot in Austin.

Parrish Cobb – We reported a couple of weeks ago that things with Cobb were turning in the right direction for Texas. After previously zeroing in on Oklahoma, I was told by sources that a couple of Texas freshmen put in a ton of work on Cobb to get him to consider Texas. Once the LOI fiasco is resolved, we expect Texas to land Cobb.

Patrick Hudson – Now for the bad news. We were told a couple of weeks ago that Hudson was starting to turn towards enrolling at Baylor for the second summer session. In talking to some people this week, we learned that the thought is picking up steam. Hudson might have been a victim of some scare tactics by the Waco staff, because the previous indications we received from his family stated that Hudson had no plans to enroll at Baylor. We are still waiting for official word on the LOI resolution, but it looks like Baylor could have saved themselves here.

Wrong and wrong. Higdon's down to one staff source and it's not even Strong.

Inaccurate. But believe what you like. You're paying for a sub to the very worst site of the main four when it comes to Texas recruiting info (though I suppose an argument could be made for 247).

Doesn't it seem counter to what we know about Strong that he would feed any information to recruiting websites or a guy like Jason Higdon?

It's funny that you are trying to tell me what's what in the Texas recruiting coverage business.

It can be useful to have a variety of channels of communication, and I can see where the ability to use a trusted and discrete media mouthpiece would be quite valuable on occasion. Strong undoubtedly doesnt like loose cannons but seems willing to use the full range of legitimate tools in the recruiting wars.

Higdon has shown that he does get (some) accurate intel from the coaching staff that is uniquely his, and unlike many he will often withhold information when the premature release would damage UT recruiting, thereby establishing his discretion. I believe that his source is not Strong directly, but a highly placed member of the coaching staff, although it seems likely that Strong is 'in the loop' in regards to the info that is passed to Higdon.

Higdon's style can be grating, but his information is generally solid, and best viewed as a window into what the coaching staff wants public. He seemed to have the best overall prediction record in regards to the last two recruiting cycles and how we would do overall and in regards to specific recruits when compared with his competition. I think he's on record as predicting another top ten finish in February, and possibly higher depending on how the season goes...

My opinion is if you are paying for recruiting news from any site you are wasting your money. I joined up rivals when I first discovered recruiting and it started out just looking at the state rankings and clicking on who they are interested in. Then I singed up for a membership thinking that it was a bunch of legitimate info and it wasn't what I expected. I got more access to film and such but the recruiting news and team stuff was pretty meh. What kept me paying was the membership base. You can get some serious entertainment out of some threads.

As far as recruiting or team news now with all the competition anything an someone posts with any substance trickles down to free forums in a matter of minutes.

Baylor University Grants Releases To Five Football Signees

June 23, 2016 WACO, Texas Baylor University has granted a release from the National Letter of Intent to the five members of the Bears’ 2016 football recruiting class who formally requested such release prior to May 31.

Several members of the 2016 class enrolled for the first session of summer school, which began last month, and are participating in the Bears’ strength and conditioning program. Additional class members are expected to join the program for the second session of summer school in July.

“I wanted the opportunity to talk with our signees and their families before providing any releases,” said Baylor Acting Head Football Coach Jim Grobe. “This has never been about whether or not we would ultimately provide individuals with a release; we simply asked that we go through the process outlined by the NLI, take some time and have the chance to speak with the student-athletes and their parents. I’ve enjoyed those opportunities to meet with these families and wish each individual success in all that they do in life.

“I am very impressed with the young men who are here at Baylor and on our team,” he added. “We have great student-athletes who are working hard, committed to success and being a part of something special. I am committed to each one in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.”

Fall camp for Baylor’s 2016 football season begins Aug. 4 ahead of the Bears’ Sept. 2 season-opener against Northwestern State.
