SEC will be tougher than expected

You are speculating that Texas would lose in the SEC if they have a down week. You are making my points for me. Anyone can have close games on a down week. Doesn't mean they are going to lose. Trying to say Texas loses those games last year if those were SEC teams and not TCU/Houston/K-State is a trash argument.

TCU would have beat the sh*t out of most of those SEC teams the last 15 years. Taking Georgia and extrapolating that to the middle of the road teams like aggy, florida, kentucky, etc isn't going to work.
You totally missed my point, how many lower tier teams could have held that Georgia team to 16 points or better yet how many teams that won a natty was held to 16points by a lower tier team. It’s going to be interesting to hear your answer

Texas has championship caliber team in 09 and got held to 12. Sh*t happens sometimes.

The whole point is trying to say Texas is going to struggle in the SEC b/c they had 3-4 close games (2 with a back up qb) in the big 12 just doesn't make sense.

SEC will be tough, no doubt. How do you think the Gators will do this season? Will Napier make it? Freshman QBs have traditionally not been a sign of good things to come. What are your thoughts on Lagway?

There's perception, and then there's reality.

Behold-

In 2004, Auburn went undefeated. Ran the table. Won every game by double digits except 2---- LSU and Bama.

Now it comes time for the title game and who gets chosen?
Undefeated USC (a team that would end up being touted as the Greatest Team of All Time until Jan 4, 2006), and Oklahoma, who was also undefeated.

The perception was that Auburn was not as good as either team because the SEC was weak. The reality is-- we will never know.
But the SEC took that to heart. So what did they do? Over the next 5 years they built the largest underground, black bag, money laundering, recruit purchasing pipeline in the history of the NCAA. It was epic.
Why?
To change not only the perception, but the reality.
They went on to play for a national title damn near every year after 2009.
But that time has passed. With the introduction of NIL, talent is being pulled away from the SEC and it will continue to happen. "Have gun, will travel" is afoot- and as long as universities are willing to pay, the talent will follow the money.
The days of the SEC being "top to bottom, the toughest conference in America" are about to start waning.

Sorry to say, but thT dog don't hunt. Should not be hard to research...lots of upsets happen

To be honest, 8 wins is the ceiling but I think we can win 6 or 7 games. November will be a very tough month. I think Lagway will shine when he takes over the team. If Florida is bowl eligible with that schedule, probably get Napier another year.

I didn’t say Texas was going to struggle or alluded to it. All I’m saying is those lower teams are very tough and can beat you any given day. Arkansas is a great example, they went 1-7, in conference play but vs LSU 31-34, Ole Miss 20-27, Bama 21-24, but vs State 3-7.

OU would curb stomp aggy. Arnold is a question mark but their defense will be legit this year. I'll be rooting FOR ou against all the fags from the SEC.
Ah 👍 I see you're finally catching on about the SEC 😂

And OK should have been in the Peach Bowl ahead of MS and PS they would have beaten either team.

Since my wife is a TENN Alumn we keep track of them pretty good...this year wont be their year but next year they should be scary..

I will take aggy any day of the week than cheaterU. I wonder if ou will get away with alll of their holding that would never get called in the B12. @SOUTHSWAMP , any insight into SEC and offensive line holding calls? We have often talked about one of the reasons blowU would trip and fall in previous playoffs is their failure to get away with their famous holding.

I get a little bored with this woe is us crap....We have had meat grinder schedules many times....If we are good we chew them up. If we are lacking thenso be it. Remember 2008? at the end we had 3 top 5 teams back to back to back. Hell, last year we had 3 games (we won em all) with Malik Murphey at QB.

I dont believe any of this crap about lower level secsecsec teams being so...so hard to beat. F*ck em all

The other side of that coin is that all those bottom dwellers have to play us. Think any of them are looking forward to that saying..."oh hell yeah!...we got this!"

We'll be the new meat in town. They'll look to use that SEC juju on us, hoping we won't rise to the occasion.

Snake bite a team early and it's tough for them to get past it. That's the tactic of the SEC when it comes to Texas and OU.

I’m not too sure about that. It’s probably more so who Ole Miss lost to as well Bama and Georgia where as Oklahoma lost to Kansas and Oklahoma State. But you never know. MS State went 1-7 in conference but they beat Arizona, not only beat them but they were leading 21-7 at one point of the game.

It’s not that they’re so hard to beat, it’s that they’re very physical in the trenches and come to hit you in the mouth. Check this out in the 2024 recruiting ranking, the league has 15 of the top 30. So when you hear about the SEC grind so much, they’re referring to the lower tier teams, they’re a lil different than your average teams. That same Georgia team that beat TCU, went into Kentucky and the final was 16-6, Vandy also went into Kentucky and beat them 24-21, that same Florida team that beat Utah, Vandy beat that Florida team.

Last season State went 1-7 in conference play, but they beat Arizona, not only that but at one point of the game they were leading 21-7. They beat Arizona the same amount of points that Washington did. Don’t get me wrong Texas and Oklahoma are a beast of teams and i think they are more than ready as I have stated in numerous posts. It’s just that week to week but that also applies to every SEC team.

SEC comes down to depth and injuries. Their players aren't always "head and shoulders" better in the talent department. But when attrition kicks in, SEC teams have more talented depth. There's not much drop off from 1st team to 2nd team.
That has a lot to do with recruiting- sure- but it also has a ton to do with talent development. That's an area the SEC has excelled in. Because of the pay and competitiveness of the SEC- you're getting a better quality of coaching and development.
Don't discount how important it is to stay healthy in this league.

All you have to do is look at the recruiting rankings. Check out where the highest B12 team ranks...then go see how many SEC teams are above them. As it stands today, the best recruiting class in the Big 12 is held by......UCF at #22. The SEC just recruits on another level. Even Missouri has upped the ante in recruiting since leaving the Big 12. Gary Pinkel in his best years, barely cracked the Top 25 in recruiting. Drinkwitz has Mizzou in the Top 15-20. Eight of the Top 15 2025 recruiting classes are SEC teams. It's crazy. Heck even Arkansas is sitting at #26 with a lame duck coach.

Texas consistently recruited in the top 15 during our down years and we sucked. Recruiting rankings are made by the opinions of writers who want to sell hope to their subscribers. There isn't much difference in the 11th ranked class and the 30th.

Texas struggling those years was all about coaching and culture. Not talent. Make no mistake, there is a BIG difference between the 11th rated class and the 30th. Take it from a fan whose team has been on both sides of that. If you have Bill Snyder or a Gary Pinkel type coach who is great at evaluating and developing under the radar talent, you can make do with a 30th ranked class or lower. But trust me, Snyder and Pinkel would've rather had the #11 class.
