So how far down the list do the Aggies have to go to get a coach ?

are we still talking about this? can't those that want to continue this go on over to their board at this point?
Well start a new thread about something super special concerning the Texas bowl. People would probably like to talk about that too. Why flip thru 9 pages to complain? You had to know what you were going to find on this thread.

Not that much else to talk about right now, and people are being fairly respectful.

This is actually a better hire than Brewster. This guy is a top notch recruiter.

Gilmer-Ex, and former SMU RB coach Jeff Traylor is joining Chad Morris in Arkansas. Huge boost for the Razorbacks. #WPS#bEASTtexas
Not sure about better, but letting Traylor go to an out of state SECW school seems a little dangerous. Good hire.

His coaching really showed up in our special teams unit. Seriously though he was a great recruiter here but I have no idea what his coaching responsibilities where.

A title? That is the dream for sure. If he gets us to 10 regular season wins a year by 2020, I'll be doing cartwheels. I don't expect anything next year, expect to be ok in 2019. I think 2020 is the first year we should expect to be really good, and that is far from promised.
New bar has been set. Top guys will no longer sign for $5M. If Herman wins 10 regular season games next year, expect a raise to around $7M shortly after. If Jimmy Sexton is his agent, maybe $7.5M. Got to keep up with the Jones's.
They set the bar once before nearly 36 years ago, I feel like this is headed in the same direction.

When he was here he was more of a bridge to the high school coaches and players . He is a solid recruiter.

Morris plus Traylor, Arkansas is coming back to Texas....They are both East Texas go gettin' fools!

I disagree. A money whip would require 7 million. Coaches are still hired at 5 million and less all over this great nation.

But, Aggy did just hire a Mack Brown type resume up until 2011 for Saban money. Aggy just set the bar, yes, it was a money whip and an attempt to buy a title.
Wonder what Pete Carroll would get if he decided to come back to CFB?

Hell, it doesn't matter if he's successful when it comes to his bank account.... He gets 75 million, no matter what. He cost 85.4 million without even looking at the other buyouts. 2020 is when your AD expects him to win the SEC as do the private investors.

I'm not one of the fools who thinks we were ever a true blue blood programs, but we had really good results after Jackie Sherrill was money whipped. After a couple tough seasons needed to get players, the next 10 years were:
1985 10-2
1986 9-3
1987 10-2
1988 7-5
1989 8-4
1990 9-3-1
1991 10-2
1992 12-1
1993 10-2
1994 10-0-1

I would take similar results. But I realize we aren't in the SWC this time around.
If you mean we'll get in NCAA hot water, do they even care anymore?

No one is Saban. He's the GOAT. If he didn't exist there wouldn't be anyone there to replicate his success, and nobody would know that it was even possible. He isn't a standard to judge other coaches on, any more than Brady is the standard to judge other QBs. He's a unicorn. There will always be a best current coach but they all aren't going to produce at a Saban esque rate. He's warped fans minds into what is good because we are living in an era were the best coach is the best ever.

No coach is worth anything if Saban is the bar, hell even Meyer can't keep up with him.

They have to say that. Who knows what they think is realistic. If he wins 10 games in 2020, we'll build a statue. Conference title or not.

Dollars and cents wise he can win 10 or so games a year and never a championship and still be worth every bit of his contract. Staying on that level keeps everyone in the hope mode and the money rolling in. Certainly worth an extra 2.5 million a year over what we've seen 5 million can get you. Obviously how fans reconcile the no championship is a different story, but business wise it would definitely works out.

Placed on probation in 1988.

Placed on probation in 1994.

The Aggies cheated and won.

Good Lord. Baylor throwing stones. Lucky institutional rape cover up is ok with the NCAA.

We got caught paying a couple guys for no show jobs (which was widespread in the SWC). You guys got caught covering up a bunch of freaking rapes (which is widespread in Waco and I guess Afghanistan or some other godless place).

Getting a little loose with the facts. From 1988 - According to the NCAA Friday, Texas A&M committed 16 violations and failed to "exercise appropriate institutional control" over its athletic department. Allegations against the A&M football program surfaced in 1985, when it was reported A&M players received thousands of dollars in signing incentives and bonuses, weekly allowances, performance payments, car deals and other favors from A&M coaches and boosters

From 1994 - An investigation revealed that the nine players received payment from an A&M booster for work they did not perform...that school showed a "lack of institutional control" in its athletics program which had been involved in an infractions case in 1988

A&M cheated. Sherrill was scum. You got what you paid for. Its ok. Just understand how the "really good results" in that 10 year period came about.

If Sherrill is scum, what is Briles.

If you think improper payments 25+ years ago is on par with covering up for rape, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I know what we got caught doing, and I know what you guys got caught doing. 50 years from now our sins will be forgotten. Baylor will always be thought of as Rape U. The 30 for 30 is going to be awesome. Baylor Proud I'm sure.

If you are a Baylor Bear, you are only allowed to comment on Penn State. That is the rule. You aren't the worst, a pedophilia cover up is holding you guys back. But you gave it a hell of a run.

Why are you bringing up Briles? I'm not defending him. Why are you comparing Baylor to ATM? Or improper payments to rape? You brought up "really good results" from 25 years ago. I'm just recalling the costs of those "really good results." The facts are - the Aggies didn't have much success before Sherrill cheated, nor much after the 1994 probation. Personally, I think Jimbo is a great hire if you have the money. Call me skeptical that he can do something no one else has been able to do without cheating.

Another poster said the last time we money whipped a coach it didn't work out. I was just saying we won a lot afterwards. I even asked if he meant getting in got water with the NCAA.

Thought it was pretty rich for a Baylor fan to call out any other institution over ethics. Except Penn State, then I would have given you a pass.

from Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel on the winners/losers of the college coaching carousel.

LOSER: TEXAS A&M
Texas A&M paid $10 million to fire a coach, Kevin Sumlin, who went 23-15 the past three seasons. They did so to guarantee $75 million to Fisher, who went 25-12 the past three seasons. After Fisher conceded ACC supremacy to Clemson the past three years, it’s hard to imagine him toppling Nick Saban’s Alabama empire. So what happens when he’s mediocre after three years at A&M and they still owe him more than $50 million (all of which is guaranteed with no off-set)? The cocksure nature of this move is practically begging for it to backfire, as the championship standards he’s expected to reach haven’t happened in College Station since 1939.

The potential for this $75 million gamble to blow up spectacularly is much greater than the chances of it being a smashing success.

Here's to hoping it blows up in aggy's face! :D

"Cat fiiiiiiiiight!"

The last time aggy and baylol went at each other like this was 1925ish.

There's an old story about a game in Waco where a fight broke out in the stands and on the field between baylol fans and the Corp. Allegedly, a baylol fan threw a folding chair from the stands and it hit a Corp kid in the head, killing him. The Waco PD basically ran all the aggys out of town to prevent any further violence and when the Corp returned to howdytown, they were so pissed that they hatched a plot for revenge.

The Corp basically hijacked a train. Ya, you didn't misread that, they "commandeered" a train. They basically stole a freaking train. Then, onto one of the flat bed cars, they loaded a howitzer. A howitzer. A freaking artillery cannon.... their plan was to ride into Waco, guns ablazing, and raise Waco to the ground.

Allegedly, the Texas Rangers caught wind of this plot and we're able to stop the train using felled trees across the tracks. The Corp relented and returned to howdytown with no casualties.

That's the "legend" I've heard.

Aggy is ready to start paying top dollar for players and they don't even care. They got a coach who is known to look the other way, his assistants are some of the best at arranging it, and the fan base is perfectly fine with it. They have desperate boosters who gave a lot of money and will do whatever it takes to make sure it pays off. They do not want to look like they made a foolish deal. They have a chancellor who seems to care more about the athletic program than the educational side and seems to be willing to let anything happen so he can brag about being a top dog and make little one line jabs about how great they are. Having the college football world laugh and say "see, I told you so" is their biggest fear and they will do anything to prevent that from happening. Aggy is selling their soul and they don't even feel bad about it.

Here's a little more color for the story:

https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/co...1/12/Unsolved-mysteries-Who-killed-AandM-2277

When I was in school, the freshman "guarded" the campus on Friday nights before we played the Aggies. I had an axe handle, never saw an Aggie, and not sure what I would've done if one showed up.

My bitterness towards the Ags stems from the mid 1980's. UT was down in the final Akers years, ATM was rising with Sherrill, and we were as solid as we have ever been with Grant Teaff, Cody Carlson at QB, and a slew of talent that went on to the NFL. For 2 years in a row we battled the Aggies for the SWC championship, and both times Kevin Murray single handedly destroyed us. The first year we had a 17-0 lead and coughed it up. We could not stop Murray. Forget Manziel, Murray is without a doubt the greatest player the Aggies have ever produced. To find out Murray was being paid just adds a little salt to the wound. So, when MM42 says people will forget about cheating in 50 years, well, we're at 30+ years and I'm still bitter.

The only time that aggy has had any success in their history is when they were cheating. They don't call them the cheatin' farmers for nothing!

Where did you get the info that Jimbo has that reputation? A rivals message board?
Brewster and Craig do have reputaions, but no proof I am aware of. If is highly likely that it is BS, and they are just great recruiter - I don't know.
You do realize Brewster was in Austin when people started saying things about him.

During the 1980's every SWC football team was put on probation at some point with the exception of Rice and Arkansas.

It is amazing how no one remembers UT being on probation in the 80's also when they love to talk about A&M being on probation. Everybody cheated. Does not make it right, but only Rice and Arky can throw stones.

you forgot that the fight started because aggy assaulted a bunch of female baylor people. they claimed they didnt know but by then it was too late. the brawl was on and they got the sh!t kicked out of them.

Didn't it end up being one year, no bowl ban and they complied to the NCAA request. It was nothing major.

I don't remember any UT recruits being photographed by brand new TransAms. I also don't remember any FedEx envelopes full of cash. I recall some football tickets and free steak dinners. Revisionist history and false equivalence from the aggy cheater apologists.

The fact remains the only time aggy was ever successful they were paying illegally through the nose. That's it. And no, a 7-way tie for a title in the 1930s doesn't count.

Scholz, face it. You guys are nervous. The SEC money has allowed us to really pour $$ into our program and hire a top flight coach. Hermann may turn out great, but early returns make every Longhorn I know nervous. He appears to be in over his head. We will see what happens, but the positive press for A&M on hiring Fisher is pretty much everywhere.
