So how far down the list do the Aggies have to go to get a coach ?

I lived thru RC and Fran, obviously I can survive boring offense. Sherman and Sumlin damn near killed me watching their defenses.

I'd rather have great players and an average coach than average players and a great coach. But I'd take great anything at this point.

You better hope y'all didn't pay 75m for an average coach

If he can find the right QB for his overly complex offense, he will do well at A&M. Players like Jameis Winston don't come along every day.

Players at Florida State said if Jimbo stays, we're leaving. So what does that say to the aggy faithful.
He has burned bridges with a bunch of recruits in Florida. He didn't even bother telling the players he had taken the Texas A&M position. Supposedly a lot of the recruits have not heard from the FSU staff in over a month.

To say Jimbo Fisher burned bridges in Florida is an understatement. He nuked them. Several high profile HS programs in FL are coached by FSU grads and ex players.

If he had come out and said "I'm leaving for the money", people would eventually be fine with it. Instead, he and his agent created this false narrative about FSU's facilities being inadequate or the administration not supporting him both of which are completely untrue.

Feel like Traylor is the guy at SMU. One of the reasons they gave him the title Associate Head Coach. They knew this day was coming.

Those titles don't mean much these days. He's too green for a program like SMU. He needs to be a coordinator somewhere first.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is the next guy, but I also don't know anything so there is that. How is that for hedging a bet?

I think SMU is willing to spend a little money in get a more proven guy in there. Although he failed they paid for June Jones and he was a big name, and Morris was considered the best coordinator and they got him. Traylor has barely been at the college level and at Texas he had very generic title with no one really knowing what he was responsible for. Have no idea how he's thought of at SMU, but RBs are the easiest position to coach. The position pretty much boils down to physical ability and instincts neither which a RB coach can develop, so as far as his resume it's lacking for even a lower tier program much less one that actually has some money to spend.

You are probably right. Have you heard any names come out?

Just saw aggy Chad was hired to replace Bielema at arky. That has the potential for many future laughs if he turns out better than Jimbo the savior.

Texas A&M: Florida State offensive quality control Dameyune Craig is joining Jimbo Fisher’s staff at Texas A&M reports 247. Bruce Feldman added to the report today saying he expects Craig to coach receivers, adding that James Coley is expected to become Texas A&M’s offensive coordinator.

I think Jimbo calls a lot of the plays, or at least he did at FSU I think.

Dameyune Craig is a low down dirty muh fugga. This is the signaling flag that jimbo won't be following any rules. Craig is a fvcking bag man. He does all the dirty work. Look for some shady sh!t to be coming out of college station soon.

But we don't lie, cheat or steal. Just kidding. Glad to hear we have at least one big time recruiter on staff. Hopefully we have a staff full of them.

Coley was basically an OC in name only when he worked for Jimbo at FSU. Jimbo calls all the plays which I'm assuming he will continue to do and he doesn't like to tailor his offense to anyone. Coley would be there mainly as a recruiter given his strong ties to the Miami area.

I saw a report from a Dawg site that Coley is staying at Georgia. Can't say I blame him. Another stint as the Chief Clipboard Holder isn't what the guy wants to do.

Page 1 of this thread you said “Jimbo fisher will not be going to colly station”

Are you always totally full of sh%t?

uh-oh!

First rule of trolling....dont pick on a guy twice as smart as you....good luck.

From what I understand, Tim Brewster skirted the rules a bit during his last stay in Texas. He was also a beast recruiter. Sounds like Craig and Brewster will be in charge of picking up the groceries.

Not worried about Brewster...it was 17 years ago when he was involved in CFB in Texas, he also just recruited a team that went 6-6.

brewster is an ace recruiter. everyone on this board was hoping he came to UT last year with Herman. dont be petty because hes going to aggy.

Brewster is a good recruiter. There's a lot of hand ringing going on, he's not going to run this state.

Traylor on the other hand is going to be a big deal for Arkansas and the better get when it comes to ties to Texas.

I'm not worried about Brewster, but he would have been aight as the 10th assistant.

Plus he's been recruiting Texas while at FSU. He's not 17 years removed from the Texas high school landscape.

He pulled Marvin Wilson last year and Dontavious Jackson the year before out of Houston.
I really don't know that much about him, maybe he is a myth. But he is supposed to be magic on the trail. Old timers around here would know more about him than me.

He's a guy that every Texas fan would be geeked about as evidenced by anytime there is a hint that he might come back here. See last year. Not that it means you are penciled in for a playoff spot, but you certainly pulls his weight on any staff. Which both programs know isn't necessarily a given.

Their Staff $$$$ will be an entertaining follow. I've yet to see a program buy a Natty. Saban was not hired at 7 million (8 years for 32 million)...

Brewster is rumored at 5 years for 1.2 million guaranteed as a position coach.

That was almost 11 years ago. In today's $$$ a coach in Saban's situation (at that time) would command 7 million + per year if not more.

And they still went 6-6.... like I said he will get his guys we will get our guys. It all comes down to coaches and getting the players ready and for the last 4 years we haven't had it so it really doesn't matter who we recruit because our team looks like shit half the time they get on the field.

I disagree. A money whip would require 7 million. Coaches are still hired at 5 million and less all over this great nation.

But, Aggy did just hire a Mack Brown type resume up until 2011 for Saban money. Aggy just set the bar, yes, it was a money whip and an attempt to buy a title.

A title? That is the dream for sure. If he gets us to 10 regular season wins a year by 2020, I'll be doing cartwheels. I don't expect anything next year, expect to be ok in 2019. I think 2020 is the first year we should expect to be really good, and that is far from promised.
New bar has been set. Top guys will no longer sign for $5M. If Herman wins 10 regular season games next year, expect a raise to around $7M shortly after. If Jimmy Sexton is his agent, maybe $7.5M. Got to keep up with the Jones's.

I'm not expecting much next year either. I don't like any of our quarterbacks on campus they way they played last year. New coach and new system could certainly do wonders for them. I like the hire. Was it a money whip? Sure it was. All in on Jimbo is certainly risky, but we will see how it goes. I'm guessing we will win 7-8 games next year, maybe 9 the next, and then Jimbo's time is up. Win 10 or it isn't worth the money. If he can recruit like everyone says he can then we should have the players to compete.

I understand the "money whip" sentiment, especially for ten years. The other side of that is what we did with Sumlin, give him an extension at 5 million a year and end up paying for 8 anyway. At least we have someone with a lot of experience winning at a high level. It is a new avenue for us for sure, but it is worth a gamble to a lot of people, especially if it works.

Starkel looked pretty good for a freshman. Had he not gotten hurt, they would've surely won the UCLA game, and maybe one or two more. Then again, you would still have Sumlin.

This is actually a better hire than Brewster. This guy is a top notch recruiter.

Gilmer-Ex, and former SMU RB coach Jeff Traylor is joining Chad Morris in Arkansas. Huge boost for the Razorbacks. #WPS#bEASTtexas
