Texas Recruiting

I’m reading reports on Reddit CFB recruiting insiders that OU, Florida, and LSU are reaching out to Arch. He’s got visits to Florida and LSU lined up. No word on OU. First time I’ve heard OU being considered. UT is still the front runner.

OU started being mentioned when Lebby ended up at OU. Not sure that they are a serious contender. From everything you read it’s Texas, UGA, Bama, and maybe Florida.

From Tfloss on Hornsports:

A couple things on Pitt transfer WR Jordan Addison from IT...

- Texas is being ultra aggressive in an attempt to get him locked down before he makes any other visits, especially to USC.

- he does not have a firm date set to visit USC, it's either this week or "at some point" which is curious considering all the talk that they're the clear frontrunner (my opinion is Addison/USC may be letting things cool off a bit there temporarily due to tampering accusations).

- Coach Marion is huge here, and if Addison has concerns about Ewers being unproven, then he's the guy to calm those fears.

- Texas has "drastically" improved their chances, and they hope to know something by tomorrow or Thursday.

It comes down to how confident they are in Sark's job security. They are not interested in coming to a school where the system could change before he plays a snap.

It’s a chicken and egg thing. Arch wants to know about Sarks job security, but arch in a lot of ways dictates Sark’s job security. If Arch manning comes to Texas sark at the very least completes his contract as Texas head coach. I’d bet a pretty good chunk of money on that.

Not so fast…
Eh that doesn’t mean much. The Mannings have always made “businessdecisions”. Peyton and Eli played for David Cutcliff who at the time was the best QB coach in the country. Sark is regarded as one of the best QB coaches in the country right now. Plus the NIL opportunities in Austin will probably be 2nd to none. Those two things alone give Texas a slight edge imo plus he’s been to Austin I think more than the other places. I know he’s been to Austin a ton

Lived in Austin on four different occasions, beginning in the early 70s… last period was 2015-17. Used to love it there. The Austin of today? No thanks. “Woke” Austin vs Athens, GA? Thinking that may play a part in the kid’s decision. Hope I’m wrong.

Your turning it in to a political thing(I wish we could ban the word “woke” it’s WAY overused) I don’t think an 18 year old kid cares about that, and his uncles played in NY and Denver. Not exactly conservative hotbeds. Austin’s so called “wokeness” hasn’t mattered in recruiting so far doubt it has any factor here

My brother in law still lives there, well the outskirts towards Cedar Park. As long as you stay away from the downtown area, Austin is a great place to live. Only thing bad about it is the cost of living. My brother in law just bought a house there last month and had to pay 100K over the asking price. Austin is still a great city though in my opinion. I don't let the political stuff sway my opinion though.

Athens, GA has turned very liberal itself. Last election they had a 70+% Democrat vote.

*You’re turning it… 🤫 Agree to disagree.

I lived 5 miles from The Oasis on RR 620. My 2br/2bath 3rd floor apartment rented for $890 in 2017. The same apartment is renting for $1700/mo today. Worked from home office, so never had to deal with crazy Austin traffic.

And it's a sad state of affairs for cfb these days. Imo.

Are you really sure about that?
Clarke County had a 70% Democrat vote in the last presidential election. That should tell you all you need to know right there. I still can't believe Georgia has turned into a blue state. One of the last places I would have thought that would have happened.

Most of those players were recruited by other programs as well so they had D1 talent. The question I have is why did they not succeed here? That is the question Sark needs to find answers for.

Well, like 4-5 of the recruits retired for medical reasons. Not the fault of Herman, or the player.

However, the lack of talent recruited on the LOS was the real crime. Hookfin was a low 3* until Texas out dueled Mississippi State, lol. Another, Javonne Shepherd, was a terrible choice. He was too wishy-washy and a grade risk.
There were a handful of guys that Herman got that I don't think ever really wanted to come here, but they did for some reason. Bru McCoy, Tyler Owens, Kenyatta Watson, Jake Smith, and the previously mentioned Shepherd. That is on Herman. You have to be able to read a kids demeanor and gauge his excitement for your program.

The 2018 and 2020 classes were much better in terms of longevity and production.

2018 had some good draft picks. Some of those players progressively got worse. And that is 100% on Herman and his staff.

Drafted from that class were Caden Sterns and Joseph Ossai.

Keontay Ingram transferred and got better. Joshua Moore should've been productive, but he was kicked off by Sark because he was a cancer. Something that was mentioned out of HS with him.

Still on the roster and should be productive and/or have a shot to get drafted and/or sign FA

DeMarvion Overshown
Anthony Cook
D'shawn Jamison
Keondre Coburn
Junior Angilau
Moro Ojomo
Christian Jones

Not great, not terrible. But MUCH better than the 2019 class.

2020 class (Hermans last)

Should contribute and have a chance at the draft and/or sign FA at some point

Bijan Robinson (possible Heisman contender)
Hudson Card (in current QB battle)
Alfred Collins
Vernon Broughton
Kitan Crawford
Jerrin Thompson
Jake Majors
Troy Omeire
Logan Parr
Jahdae Barron
Andrej Karic
Jaylon Ford

This is much, MUCH better. And some of these guys might actually develop in the Sark culture. Herman just beat these dudes down. There's a difference in being a likeable dick and a condescending dick. I'll let you guess which one Herman was.

So from the above, and if you include the 2019 debacle class, that is only 20/21 guys that will contribute from 3 successive classes. That's not good.

And finally the 2021 class (Sarks 1st)

Should/could contribute and have a chance at the draft and/or sign FA at some point

Ja'Tavion Sanders
Xavier Worthy
JD Coffey
Jaden Alexis
Jonathan Brooks
Hayden Conner
Byron Murphy
Casey Cain
Keilan Robinson
Ovie Oghoufo

What does all this mean? Well, our depth is going to be filled with dudes from the 2022 class (freshman and transfers). About 12/14 guys.

That's not even enough to fill a two deep. So that means we need some unknowns to really step up, or we need an extraordinarily fortunate year of health

If we have any injury problems it will derail the season in a hurry. Lets hope our physio's are good and know what the hell they're doing.

You and me both. I wonder what sleepy's approval rating is in Georgia at this moment. Hope them suckers are happy.

Yep. When people say “we had the talent to be better than 5-7” the sad truth is no we didn’t, and the NFL just confirmed that. You could miss an entire CFB season and watch the first 3 rounds of the draft and you’d have a pretty good snapshot of who was good in college football that year. We just simply haven’t developed the talent necessary to be good. I think Sark has improved the talent level here drastically, but it’s a process

It looks like we are in the drivers seat to land Addison. Brennan Marion is already having an impact not even a year into being hired. He's on a visit to USC this weekend and we should know the decision by Saturday.
