Texas Recruiting

Not a single RB went in round 1 last year.
But lets say he goes #20. Kenny Picket went last year at #20 and signed a 4 year deal at 16 mil with half that guaranteed.
he visited the Dallas Cowboys this week soooo...we can all agree he gone

The point is, sometimes a football player doesnt fit the mold. Mike Singletary was too small to play major College football. Some guys just know how to play the game.....and it is obvious from an early age. Of course you take Bijan every time. At the same time dont neglect the guy that has always been a standout but has just been too small.
Agreed. Talent evaluation skills in a coach are very important. Finding the 5 star athlete in a small 3 star player can be the difference in winning and being average. Unfortunately, Texas hasn't had many coaches that have been great talent evaluators when it comes to picking out diamond in the rough players.

I think we should start looking at something besides 4 or 5 Star player, KState showed me that with Vaughn, being from Round Rock, man that was a miss, That was Pop Snyders thing, and they still are doing it, and the Brock Boys , he knocked us down when didn't get them and the 5 Star QB, this guys a crazy guy for sure on building a team...
I see what you mean, but I believe you need 4 and 5 star players to win championships. Texas wouldn't have won a championship or those BCS bowls (or 10 win seasons) without them. Our greatest players have all been 4 and 5 star players.

But coaches have to be able to coach these players up. Texas coaches have wasted a lot of these players due to poor talent evaluation and not getting the most out of their skills. And you can't just collect a bunch of 4 and 5 stars and expect them win without recruiting to your needs, or training them properly.

It ultimately comes down to coaching. Texas hasn't done a very good job hiring football coaches. (they're lights out in the other sports, but not football).

Besides TX and OK no Big XII school has finished in the top 20 in recruiting.

There's 2 weeks to go but right now Baylor, TT, and TCU are ranked in the top 20.

Thinking about those kids a&m signed in February paying exorbitant amounts of money to get them to go there.

One good thing however. Think about how much money they're saving now that those kids have left.

I guess they can they can spend that money on Ruben Owens now lol

Something about the transfer portal that I've noticed.

If you're a school that can't recruit 4 or 5* players the tp can help you to level the playing field.

Get a coach that has a good eye for spoting talent and you can catch up.

It played a huge part in Sonny Dykes success at TCU. The transfer portal was the primary reason that TT went 7/5 this year.

These guys spotted the good players that came in under the wire and given a chance they're showing they can play.

I hope this can happen for guys like Card, Omeire, and JD Coffey I know those kids can play.

In the future I can see TT, SMU, and Baylor doing a lot of this.

So it can be a good thing

How about a couple of mean JC players ?

hell yes! Great pick up for Sark, hopefully this is just the start of some heavy hitter commits the next few months.
He’s already got some pretty heavy hitters. Not sure there are too many more out there to get unless there is a surprise flip or two

These guys are top texas targets and likely to commit:

Anthony Hill 5* # 1 LB # 19 overall (committed)

DeAndre Moore 4* # 17 WR # 95 overall

Jelani McDonald 4* # 6 ATH # 130 overall (DB or LB or ?)

Tyler Scott 3* # 51 S # 563 overall

Get those first three and the Texas 2023 class would be ranked #2

you go get another LB out of the portal and all of the sudden your starting LB Corp for 2023 looks solid

That is a great get! Congrats on the pickup, Aggies Tears taste so sweet. Yes, I'm a Sooner, but hoping both OU and UT can go into the SEC in a couple of years and kick ass. Everyone outside of OU and UT are hoping for and predicting failure with the move. I would love nothing better than to shove it up the SECs ass!

I think the SEC is gonna look a lot different by the time Texas and OU gets there and they’ll match up favorably. Saban is on the back end of his career weather he has once year left or 3 years left he’s close to the end and after that it will be UGA and a bunch of teams who are pretty close to each other. Texas fits in to that group.

I guess jontay cook sent out a tweet this morning that a lot of people are speculating means some others are jumping on board. Not sure who else is out there. Maybe a flip or two last minute?

A lot of Texas commits are going off in the state championship games. Malik Muhammad was the defensive MVP last night. And today Tre Wisner and Johntay Cook went off in the Desoto game and helped lead them to victory.

Tre Wisner may be a sleeper that a lot of people are forgetting about in this class. He had over 200 all purpose yards today on only 11 touches.

Yep I love this recruiting class. I think in 3 years we’re gonna look back at these last two recruiting classes and say that’s when big stuff started to happen. We’ve got some studs the last two years imo
