*****Texas vs Kansas Game Thread*****

Has he had time to build depth when his front line players go down. Most coaches want 5 years but I can understand your thoughts. I did not hear any complaints after the sugar bowl win.

Because we didn't play like a bunch of hog tied dervishes.

This game definitely should be treated as a loss by the players and coaching staff. We were outplayed in every phase by KU. Getting our secondary healthy again will definitely help but there's no reason why we should have such a steep drop in talent from our starters to the backups. What's incredible to me is we were within one possession of beating LSU and BlowU. Most teams usually improve as the season progresses but we're regressing. Injuries are no excuse. We have no depth in our DL and OL and LB group. That's unacceptable at UT.

I'm not ready to give up on Herman. We'll see how the rest of the season plays out.

One positive is Sam's NFL stock is probably slipping so he's likely returning for his SR season.

This defense is a dumpster fire. Everyone looks lost, can’t tackle. Last in the Big 12, given the talent on this team, that should never happen. Everyone has injuries, everyone has young players. Not everyone has the talent level UT has. A serious look needs to be taken on the coaching on that side of the ball this off season. Wether it’s coaching or type of defense played. Something has to change.

Honestly, Sam's NFL draft stock is the last thing on my mind. Probably because I don't see him as an NFL QB.
Sam will never be an NFL QB. So y'all go ahead and get that thought out of your minds right now. His release time is pedestrian compared to and NFL QB. He winds up and throws like Goose Gossage.

Deal with it. He isn't going anywhere.

I think some team will draft him on the 2nd day later rounds after next season. He would have to be open to the idea of being a Swiss Army knife type player like Taysom Hill with the Saints playing special teams, receiver and backup QB. If he's limiting himself to only being a QB I agree he's got no NFL future.

That pretty much Nailed it.Orlando is one of the highest paid DC in the country and its not working,It reminds me of the DC
Diaz situation yet he is head coach of miami.

I love Ehlinger and his heart and that he bleeds burnt orange, but he's not an NFL QB. He is coming back next year regardless of how well he does his junior year. He has no draft stock.

I think at some point soon, Herman will be given an ultimatum. Either fire Beck, Orlando and possibly McKnight, or you're gone. You choose, coach.
I 100% understand the Orlando hate. But not sure why Beck is on your $hit list tonight. He isn't a great coordinator, but is a great recruiter and his offense scored 50 tonight. And whoever is working with Sam has done well. I thought Sam was a good athlete and an average QB, but he has become a really good college QB. Some coach deserves credit for getting the most out of him. Maybe it isn't Beck?

Our DBs don’t ever turn their head.
Absolutely the same thing I saw tonight. Our DBs NEVER turned their heads when the ball was arriving and the receiver adapted to the throw to make the catch. Someone needs to figure out how to change this. Maybe the DB should watch the receiver for a clue that he is about to receive the ball. Maybe one of our other players needs to yell out that the ball is almost there. I don't know but what is going on now is NOT WORKING.

Beck's offense scored 48, not 50. (Including our PATs and FGs.)

Enough to tie the Kansas Jayhawks.

At home.

I'm not saying we should pile on either coordinator. It seems like we have an injury problem, and Tom Herman is a big part of that, with how Texas practices now. That's why we're struggling to beat Kansas at home.

Sure losses: Iowa State and Baylor.

50-50 games: TCU, KSU, Tech and a lower tier bowl game.

We could be looking at a 5 or 6 loss season. This isn't what Texas signed up for with Herman.
I am beginning to think that his time at Houston, he had layers in place and everything and got Lucky...not impressed by his coaching or his attitude, I have seen a lotta coaches come and go since DKR, and a couple before him...I think Herman is a good recruiter and PR man and CEO Type, in fact if you look close enough you will see his blueprint is just like MB, he's like MB JR, he can't or doesn't have the ability to come up with new plays, I think he might be better off somewhere else sides Texas if this game is any judge, hate to go thru another coach change but, I told ya from the beginning, Hermans not the one we are looking for, just like CS wasn't , just a space filler till something better comes along

I think in the coaching world, you can only do so much plug and play on coaches before the truth comes out that you are not that good, at coaching young men up and play fabrication,,,every coach wants to be a CEO except a few, that's the money, you sit back and plug and play coaches, let them make the desc-ions , if it goes south then fire'em and let them take the blame for you, CEO coaches don't actually coach, they are a Millon Doller Delegating and that's all

I agree he's not an NFL caliber QB but he's capable of being an NFL player. He's likely going to graduate this year so the NFL might be an option for him to pursue. I would highly suggest to him that he stay for his senior season but you never know for sure.

If Ehlinger were to declare for the NFL draft after this year, and he would be foolish to do so, he wouldn't get drafted. Someone would give him a shot as a FA, but I don't see a team spending a draft pick on him.

ok,but who and you have to start all over and blow up this years recruiting class, ranked #4 in nation and pay off the coaches contracts and these are high payed coaches.Losing to Kansas can get you fired at Texas but TExas did not lose .Sam did not look good his freshman year and he has really improved in his junior year,My guess given time the players on the D will do the same. Now,if it was juniors and seniors on the field it would be a different story. Now, Smu brought is 35 college transfers and got tired of licking butts and is that a good idea?

Anytime you start over this will be an issue. I think that you don't say anything now to anyone about canning Herman if you're the UT brass. Start feeling out potential replacements now, but wait until after the bowl game to fire him. That way, you minimize the number of decommits. Herman ain't the guy.

Nah, start with replacing some assistant coaches. Herman gets more time. The number of injuries is ridiculous and although it isn’t an excuse it’s still a big reason why the defense is so bad. We have no depth, it shouldn’t be a surprise why the defense is worn out by the end of the game.

You may be right,The Texas AD and herman go way back to Rice when they worked together so I think they know each other well.It would be interesting to know his take.Do you think Texas is going to a bowl game? The last two games have been a step backwards and very disappointing to any fan of Texas football but the program was not worth a damn when Herman took the job and a rebuilding phase will take some time and no Mcdonald 's drive thru here.

You are right about last night. The thing is, I see Beck over his whole tenure. Unless Sam makes something happen on his own, then our offense sputters. He calls plays that continue to fail and never really exposes weaknesses that a given defense presents on gameday. His play calling was horrendous against ou, wv. Sam should technically be a little further along. Many of us on here talk about never pump faking and not looking off receivers. He is not innovative at all. For example, look at ou using a pick legally within 1 yard of the line of scrimmage. If those kinds of things are legal we need to do those kinds of things as well. With as many sacks as we have had against us, i don’t recall one screen pass to teach those charging DLs a lesson

This is Beck at Texas. Run the zone give on 1st down. Throw around the LOS for 2nd down. Then, we are in 3rd & long & have to pass for a 1st down (need 5-8 yards). If Sam doesn’t get sacked, or the receivers don’t drop the ball, we usually get the first down.
