With No. 2 in the books and actually having some ties to Gilbert, this is a complete lack of support from above...This is back room Donor/BOR folks attempting to get their way. He has no support.

Fire him already, he deserves better than this!

To quote Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven as he holds a gun to Gene Hackman's face.

Hackman - I don't deserve this, to die like this. I was building a house.

Eastwood - Deserves got nothing to do with it

In all reality it's not necessarily the end of Strong. There are still other OC's there. Perhaps Franklin will be the one.

He can get somebody to be OC. It's more or less he's basically got zero backing. They are just getting their ducks in a row to fire him it seems unless he can turn this 5 win team into a 9 win team.

Well maybe but according to the post that Madcow made, it appears there was a discrepancy in the terms of the deal offered to Gilbert. I assume that means Gilbert feels tge terms of the deal changed from what he was initially was offered?

I've been saying for months now that they needed to just go ahead and fire him because even if everything went right next year you are looking at 6-7 wins and they fire him anyway.

Imo Herman is waiting for the job. There may be another guy or two seeing the writing on the wall and waiting.

If they cut his legs off, it will cost us short term in recruiting and long term in reputation. Frankly, they'd have been better off giving either of those guys a 3rd year if that was the only thing holding up a deal. Penny wise, pound foolish.

This is going to hurt us worse than it'll help us

I'm just amazed at how incompetent our power players are at basic duplicity. Not at all amazed that they're duplicitous, backstabbing, lowlife assh*les -- just amazed that they're so epically bad at it.

What kind of world do they live in where they think people are mostly too stupid to notice exactly what the f*ck is going on here?

Have you seen Fenves' Twitter feed? Flying to Oklahoma might be the only way for him to outrun the mob. He should probably ask their governor for asylum.
Oh no I mean they will be able to spin it where they will be able to get the HC they want.

I know that's what you were saying. And I'm saying that the duplicity here is so egregious that the power players may be quite surprised by its long-term consequences.

It appears the backlash has four men on an airplane headed to Tulsa in an attempt to rectify the situation and win over the heart of one Sterlin Gilbert.
The perception that the University does not support coach Strong would have negative repercussions in the short term for the football team and program and in the longer term for the University, and so warrants these extreme measures. Hopefully they get their man and then we can turn the page on this little dustup and back to finishing the staff overhaul and then on to recruiting. Even so, it will still leave a bitter aftertaste that won't soon go away.

Hopefully those three making the trip to Tulsa will show Sterlin how serious Texas about wanting to win and their choice of him to run the offense.
I don't know much about the guy except ... he doesn't call the plays at Tulsa? Tulsa? Hey, he may be the next big thing, but you are sending the big dogs to woo a coach that doesn't call plays?

I don't think so. Perrin can say this. Mistakes were made by the previous administration and Strong really wasn't given the support he needed to succeed. I tried to right some wrongs and was successful however the situation had detteriated so much it didn't make sense for anyone to move forward. As the new HC I can promise you all the resources and support we have to offer.

That sums up the situation pretty accurately and would sell most coaches I would think.

Well, you're free to think so, but utter dysfunction and duplicity are usually not without consequence.

I've read that. Not talking about the OC search. I'm talking about a new HC if and when they need one. I Think the admin will be able to spin things in a way that will make whoever they migh want comfortable. I agree the OC thing is a mess but could be explained away to a new HC pretty easily in my opinion.

They can't if they publicly say, 'open checkbook go get what you need to fix it' and they cut him off at the knees behind closed doors.
