Tom Herman Thread

Then why don't you quit posting on here and follow strong's ass to where ever he goes. You must be absolutely stupid. STRONG IS GONE. HE ISN'T GETTING MORE TIME!!!

LET IT GO!

You say you understand the decision, but you really don't. I've posted on here many times how much I like the man, but he sucked as a head coach here. I don't give a shit what Lou Holtz or Urban Meyer think about him.

My ex-mother-in-law loves my ex-wife and thinks she is just a wonderful person. That doesn't change my opinion of her.

The facts are he was 16-21 has a head coach at the University of Texas. That will never cut it. Blanked by KSU! Blanked by ISU! Lost to Kansas.

I'm sorry, he was in over his head.

I wish the man nothing but the best, but he is gone and you need to accept it or follow him to his new school.

I was referring to the fact that guys are now ripping Herman and he hasn't even done anything yet. Otherwise, everything you said about Strong is absolutely correct. Of course, no one could have know that during the 2013 offseason and yet people were already killing him. For what, so they could act like they know everything when he failed.

Of course your analogy is idiotic. Your ex-mother-in-law isn't a subject matter expert on being a wife. She's just another moron, like you, with an opinion.

Lou Holtz told Charlie he couldn't say no. Not saying Charlie couldn't coach but for one of your mentors to tell you this is an opportunity you have to take no matter if you're ready is different than just saying you can coach. Charlie can coach just not at this school with these types of pressures and other responsibilities that go along with it. I like Charlie and I supported him as well but come on! Not a winning record at ALL.

My post was in reference to SwVAHorn's reply to MadDogKC's post that Herman would be gone in 3 years. I was pointing out that there are posters on this board crushing Herman without giving him an opportunity to do anything. I compared it to Strong from the standpoint that he was treated the same way. If you read my post, I acknowledge that Strong's fire was justifiable. But what does a poster get out of crushing Herman, the right to say "I told you so" when he fails. I hope that gives them a warm fuzzy feeling.

Agree. I'm a wait and see person at this point I mean what else can we do. Bitching and moaning about it now isn't going to change anything but I get what you're saying. I hope he comes in and gives us a winning record right off the bat but if not I'll have patience like I did with Strong. I just can't have much if I don't see progress and that's exactly what didn't happen with Strong.

Progress in wins not just in recruiting or math homework.

You realize that guy's mentality is what led to our 3 year argument? Herman hasn't even gotten a chance to do anything and people are already bailing on him.

Nobody on this board had any real clue on what it takes to be a head coach of a college program, yet we throw around opinions like we are experts. That's the main reason why I wanted to give Strong more time. If Urban Meyer and Lou Holtz say you can coach, who am I to say differently.

That being said, I fully understand the rationale to change and have excepted the decision. I hope a majority of us will wait until after watching the Spring game before we start evaluating his client clock management skills.
When Strong was hired he started off saying one thing and doing another.....He said he was going to run a wide open fast attacking offense..fail. He said Wickline was going to call plays....fail..... He hired Watson and everyone except a few guys were pissed right off the bat. I was. I didn't mind the Strong hire. I hated Strong's hires from the beginning. Yes I know a HC should get to pick his own staff....but the awfulness of Strong's hires were so bad I could not hold back. Keeping Watson was legendary stupidity in my view... Strong did not just lose he got BLOWN out.......had the worst this and the worst that.....comically bad at times. His use of the clock was the worst of any HC I have ever watched.

IF Herman is just as bad over the same period of time I will be saying it is time to get rid of him to. Had nothing to do with Strong personally. If Herman says one thing and does another I will call him out to... I just never saw Strong while he was at Texas as a championship coach. Before this season started I was all in on Strong and thought he may be turning a corner...no..same thing.....

Giving Strong another year would have just made this rebuild harder in my opinion.

dj I do believe a coach should get some time....you are right about that. I do want to see progress though while he is coaching. Many coaches have not started out great and ended up being really good. Like Beamer from VT for instance. But at least there were signs with him.

Has anyone read this? If not go right ahead i will not call anyone out, you know who you are.

Have optimism people its like a relationship we dont know what we are getting ourselves into even if there are red flags we always see past them and in the long run we know it's not forever so we end it. Yes there will be heartbreak but we get over it quickly. We find the next new hot item and have to give this one a chance until otherwise. Give it a chance and it will all work itself out.

I don't know why coaches tell people things that everyone knows isn't true. We all know that Herman wasn't staying at Houston why make it seem like you are? I get you have to do it in public but as far as boosters, and admin go less hurt feelings if everyone is just up front. IMO

Same reason I suspect UH told Herman things that probably weren't true either. Same reason I told my employer that I'd like to retire there but I'd never tell them hey I may look around for another job that pays more. Hurt feelings my ass! UH would fire Tom if he sucked period! Loyalty is never in big business.

You are so naïve, Ryan.

Your veiled disrespect and backhanded "compliments" about Herman are ridiculous.

I said "coaches". They all do it. And I'm not naive. Houston knows they are a stepping stone job. Hell they've been one twice already for Briles and Sumlin. I don't see how it helps anyone to act other wise. this applies to other programs to. Sevreal college football programs expectations of where they are supposed to be at is way out of wack these days.

LOL -- utter trolling fail, douchebag.

I really enjoyed reading this.

His point 4, about the car at the airport, is too funny. You've gotta wonder how trivial his point 5 would have been.

5. Multiple witnesses have heard him shout, "Coogs forever!" What the???:(

Unreal. =)roll

The stuff that I'm hearing about Herman I'm definitely liking. With that said I thought Strong was a tough man with rules also but his team played soft. If the stories I'm hearing are true about Herman this team should be very disciplined and damn tough. We'll see!

Why don't you walk into your bosses office this morning, and tell him that if you are going to leave for a job that says they will pay you more money than you are making right now and see how your boss responds? SMH

Herman wants to expand the Texas support staff and recruiting staff to compete with Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State.

Angelic music to my f*ckin' ears.

I do not comment on here often... but this issue has been a major source of frustration for me towards Texas Football and I currently feel the need to express myself on it as I have for years felt that this is and has been an underlying contributor to the overall downslide since the end of Mack's tenure till now. I thought it was going to be addressed when Mack hired the guy from Bama to support the recruiting... can't remember his name... but instead it seemed that Mack still maintained a smaller staff which leads me to believe that there was a fear of letting go of some control or a certain amount of micromanagement that continued with out allowing much input or hiring of strong support members in which he could entrust to help make decisions. This seemed to only accentuate the bad decisions. In addition, it seems that possibly Strong suffered from the same insecurity or ego i.e.. control issue that maintained this pervasive behavior... only allowing the issue to fester and get worse. The only good thing is it seems Charlie recruited well... and it's leaving Herman a better base of players to begin to build with. I really appreciate what Herman is envisioning for an administrative Staff at Texas and how to utilize that to assist him with time management and in getting solid information and advice by which to make more informed decisions. I think it is foolish to think that you can run a program this size and compete with Bama and OSU without a large and organized Coaching and administrative team... and as Herman says all "aligned" with the same message and purpose. All I have to say about this is... Thank Goodness!!!... now hopefully we can see if this has been the issue or at least one of the issues that will be cured. Peace to all...

Mack not Mac.

Corrections made... Is that better?... I guess I didn't realize that this format was that formal... Thank you and I apologize...

Um well he was our former coach and he did win this school an NC along with bringing UT back. So yeah I mean if you're a fan you should know how his name is spelled. Not being a dick but just don't think many can take you serious if you can't spell his name right and it's 4 letters.

My bad just read this and I'm being a dick I just see on other forums people post that their fans and spell his name wrong all the time. If you are sincerely a fan my bad!
