Why keep Coleman???

The lack of appreciation for Giles is laughable. Good coach, good recruiter, has put a ton of guys into the league.

Coleman has been a JAG on the recruiting trail and his personnel rotation has been a head scratcher.
No matter what Tom tells you the rotation was all Tom. Giles is appreciated but he should not be kept over Tosh and Davis they are both clear upgrades.

I would love a bigger name too, but how do we know what type of recruiter Coleman is? Wasn't he just promoted to on field staff offically last January? Tough way to judge a guy that couldn't meet with recruits, visit high schools or families homes. I think the offense Sark will run will recruit the WR position. Maybe a good coach that players like in a system that doesn't suggest QB run first will turn Coleman into a good recruiter for us.

It's been reported that he will stay on as an analyst, not an assistant coach.
I think I’ve seen this response in every Coleman thread so far, but we still have people creating new threads about him being retained as a position coach. Ha

This, and I know and am a big fan of Oscar. He’ll land on his feet.

He seems like a nice guy that works hard, but damn, we've had plenty of guys like this.

He isn't a difference maker by any means in recruiting.

He is like the Oscar Giles of offense
We don't know what Sark sees and should just fall back and trust him. Coleman didn't forget how to coach. Keep in mind a couple of things.... Even Yurchich's offense looked terrible under the leadership of Tom Herman. Herman's offenses have a way of handicapping.

I dont see him staying on, all we have heard is how Bama may fight to keep WIggins and that we have offered OU WR coach a raise, and then a few hours later Coleman is locked in as WR coach? Doesnt seem to flow with what the other reports are. I could be wrong but I dont think this is set in stone.

Its a little hard for a new coach to recruit when he can't get out and recruit and get to know the players. The reports are that he will stay on as an analyst.

Anwar just posted that he is expected to stay on as WR coach. He has been mentioned as a better face-to-face recruiter and not a social media guy per se. We are underestimating his reputation nationally and there is value in having guys on staff who know the existing systems and staff.

People attribute longevity with mediocrity, I guess. They always want the new shiny thing.

I don't have any opinion on whether Giles should be kept on staff or not, but his track record at Texas has been above average at a minimum. Texas could do much worse.

Because the new head coach thinks he is good coach. He wanted to hire him to go to Bama apparently as well.

Is OP against him being an analyst?
Not at all but it makes zero sense that he would accept a reduced role, if he is retained it’s most likely as WR coach and that is a fail no matter how you try to justify it. Hope to be wrong though and it is just as an analyst.

Texas isn’t really a “learn on the job” type of gig
I agree. But, i am just saying that is hands were tied with Covid. Not his fault. Its more about Hermans coaching changes. And you can't say if he is a good or bad recruiter after this past year just yet. I am not saying he should be WR coach. If he is kept on as an analyst then that would be fine.

My biggest complaint was the inability in many situations for the WR's to shake man/man press coverage. The lack of separation was concerning, and those guys are allegedly very talented.

HOOK EM

If he's the WR coach Sark is already handicapping himself in recruiting which is not a positive indicator of his future success.

Things like this give you an idea if the new HC gets it or not. We knew right away Herman and Strong didnt.

We will see with Sark. I really like the rumored staff so far, aside from Gideon, but this would be a serious head scratcher.

He gets paid regardless so getting his salary he was supposed to get as WR coach when he is bought out, not having to move, and getting to learn from a really smart offensive mind may not be the worse thing in the world. If he is a humble enough person to take that reduced roll good for him, he is a lot bigger man than Most.

Not saying this will happen, or is likely but I guess its not the worse thing in the world for him.
