2019 Recruiting Thread

absolutely. im starting to think he may never play. hes had 2 or 3 heat related issues. it takes about a year to recover from a heatstroke if thats what he had earlier this year. hopefully he makes a full recovery.

The PAC has the worst TV deal and the rank and file hate Larry Scott's complete failure as a leader. The fans are ready to jump to the Big 12. Take the four California schools and throw Baylor out and take one to three more.
I would keep Baylor for another instate team to play. I would rather take the AZ schools with a possibility of the LA schools. Stanford and Cal would be good additions but i dont see them moving. Especially playing KSU or ISU those games wouldn't sell

I was thinking the same thing. He has the ability but has a weight problem. Hopefully he can pull through because we are going to need him next year, big time.

PAC realignment honks sem pretty fixated on adding Rice or UH to have games in Houston for recruiting.

i wish that the realignment talk would go away for ever. its ruining college football. those people that want us to go out west and play 11pm start time games east coast are idiots, the people that want us to join the big 10 and head up north to michigan in november can eat a fat one. the people that want us to go independant can build a bonfire and die in it.

I like the realignment talk and think that its a good thing. No, I don't think Texas joining the Pac 12 would be a good move due to the logistics and time slots for games for all sports. However, when the current conference agreement expires, its pretty much a given that the Big 12 will be shaken up or blown up. How the dust settles and who goes where is a big question. IMO, a complete realignment for the NCAA makes a lot of sense, but most likely won't happen. It'll be interesting to see how all of this shakes out in the coming years.

Four super-conferences would be great for the playoff. But, an 8-team playoff would be really fun as well.

I wonder if we would have the clout to bring teams from B1G or PAC into the Big XII to make it more powerful, as opposed to Big XII being the one to disband

Look, this is a game of musical chairs and the best number of teams for playoffs within 4 conferences is 64. We already see this in CBB with the NCAA Basketball tounament. Think of the regular season as the tournament and the playoff as the final four.

The B1G/PAC/SEC aren't going to breakup. The pieces have been falling in place over the last couple decades. Don't think of re-alignment as huge unwieldy conferences. Instead, think of them as mini regional conferences within a large conference. Oklahoma has stated within the last year that they want out. This desire does not include Texas as part of their plan. UT has a larger responsibility politically in Texas and we aren't going to hop to the B1G with OU. We certainly aren't going to the $ec. There are High Schools in Texas that have a more reputable diploma than some of the Sec schools.

None of the mid-majors will be moving up to the P4 conferences when there are already enough teams from the current P5's to choose from.

Sorry man but Texas teams in the PAC wouldn't be playing 9 pm games like the Texas Rangers do. As illustrated above, we would be paired up with the 4 teams from the mountain time zone, so we would play 2 away games against the 4 teams from that pod per season. It's only an hour time difference. Next we would have to play one team from each of the far west pods, one home and one away. The conference can adjust for time zone differences. It's only a 2 hour difference.

So to review, 3 conference games with Texas (Tech, TCU, BU) teams. 4 games with Mountain west pod and 2 with far west for a total of 9 conference games. This leaves 3 games for OOC. We could still do OU at State Fair, A&M at Thanksgiving and one tuneup at beginning of season. I don't see the problems with this scenario but change is difficult for some.

The SWC didn't and the Big 12 won't survive because of the hatred for The University of Texas by some. If you want me to list the schools and their gripes against us, I can. The reason we team with Tech, TCU, and BU is because they will be happy to go with us.

We aren't going to a conference without an ESPN conference network until 2031. There are some clauses in the LHN contract that are very favorable to ESPN should we leave the Big 12. They keep our third tier rights and they have a right to match any offer on first and second tier rights. I doubt the PAC 12 wants to pay us for 6 years with that type of uncertainty. If the Big 12 falls apart in 2025 the only real opportunity for us is SEC or ACC. The CBS deal with SEC could be a sticking point. ESPN could lock in every Texas home game over that 6 year period.

As stated before, the academic standards of the SEC won't cut it. The ACC is too far away unless we want to recruit east coast kids. Plus, the ACC is a basketball conference.

OU is going to bolt. The best fit to the puzzle is the PAC. Some deals and concessions are going to have to be made.

Also by 2025 or sooner, streaming games is going to be the way cfb is viewed. I imagine Google, Netflix, Apple will be larger players than ESPN.

What concessions. We sold ESPN our third tier rights, and gave them a 60 day window to negotiate for first and second tier rights as well as a 48 hour to match any offer for our first and second tier rights should we leave the Big 12.

We aren't going to leave the Big 12. The Big 12 is leaving us right now! Look around at all the schools that have left starting with Arkansas(Arkansas, A&M, Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri). OU sent Big Game Bob to Chicago to start the planning. We could call the 4 remaining teams the Big 12 Conference. The music is going to stop and we will have no other choices.

I understand that the Big 12 is unstable after the 2025 GOR ends. If it does break up we can pick our landing spot. If the B1G or the PAC 12 do decide to take us they would have to make an accommodation for the LHN until 2031. Since ESPN owns the SEC and ACC networks those would be much easier to negotiate unless for some reason ESPN thinks it would be cheaper to buy us out of the final 6 years of the deal to the tune of 88 million dollars.

I agree. The University regents and the big donors along with the legislature will trump what ESPN wants. The best fit to the puzzle is the pac. OU and osu will be a package deal to the b1g or sec. It's not the sexiest thing but it works. Keeping ou and getting Gomer back on the schedule are imperative.

The PAC is weak. We could potentially poach some of their schools to make the Big XII stronger again. It's possible

THIS
I don't see the Big12 dying. I see the Pac dying. They are lagging behind the major conferences. You know it's bad when ISU make more money. The AZ schools would be the first to jump. I would love seeing us back at 12 teams or possibly 16 with 2 eight team divisions. If the conference add the AZ schools, Utah, Colorado, Boise state and let's say Cincy for WV sake. We could see many opportunities for the conference to make a boat load of money.

There is actually a clause in the contract for that. So if state law is changed or the board of regents change the rules that don't allow us to continue on with the agreement then we could terminate except if the change in the law or rule was created to get us out of the contract. Either way its not really about what ESPN wants or what regents or donors want its about the obligations that both sides agreed to in the contract. So far the deal has been pretty bad for ESPN so in 2025 who knows what they are willing to do but the question is would we be willing to walk away from that money.

Hey fellas, I had the pleasure of watching the Notre Dame Saints play McClintock High last night. It was Notre Dame in a route.

Our cruit WR Jake Smith plays for Notre Dame and had 2 TD's in the 1st quarter. Both were 60 yards or longer. I got to meet his mother too, very nice lady.

Some observations about him. Nothing about him physically really stands out. He looks just like another guy on the sideline. But that's where the similarities stop.

When this kid touches the ball . . . 'OH MY GOD!' He's got another gear like Marquis Goodwin had. Right now he's faster than anyone on Texas except for maybe Duvernay. But he's far more explosive than Duve.

The guy is going full speed in 2 steps, can cut on a dime and has great hands. He looks to me to be a faster, bigger version of Jordan Shipley. This guy will kill it on the bubble screen. I was told he runs a 4.3 and I believe it. This kid is going to be fantastic at UT.

Roschon Johnson - 4 star (0.9292) - TX - TX Commit
- Roschon is an impressive dual threat QB who has thrived at Port-Neches Groves both throwing and running the ball. He is an effortless runner with very good speed. He also shows a good ability to throw the ball, including a good deep ball.
-

Flipping through youtube and found some highlights of Roshon, since I haven't seen much film on him I decided to watch his video.

I will preface this by saying I don't watch QBs and look for if they competed pass but rather if they are making good decision, what is their footwork like and what does their release look like. Here are my impressions of Roshon.

1. The kid has a lightning quick release, he holds the ball high and when he spots his open receiver he gets the ball out of his hands about as fast as any QB I've seen on this level.

2. He has good footwork, especially on the high school level, in the highlights I saw he did throw off his back foot a number of times, but things like this are to be expected on this level.

3. Kid can run, and I mean he has Michael Vick type ability. I want to see him in an all-star game to get a better judgement on his running ability but what I saw he was making some kids look very foolish.

4. He has very good accuracy and when he is on the move he does a great job of squaring up his body to produce an accurate pass.

5. He looks to have a strong enough arm to do every pass on the tree, that includes the deep out.

I would not sleep on this kid, he has all the tool necessary to be a great QB at Texas.

I spoke to someone in the know about Roschon Johnson last night. He said that he has/had a knee and ankle injuries and is still nursing them. He played limited action last Friday night against Baytown Lee and got PNG out to a 21-0 lead before the coaches removed him from the game. I was told that Texas doctors are talking to him and examining him as well as doctors in Port Neches.

Exactly. people seem to be forgetting Jalen. Don't take him redshirting as a slight of his talent. We just have the luxury of being able to RS him this year.

I have to update this. I've noticed Jalen Green playing on the punt return and kickoff teams. Against KSU anyway. If this has been the case all year, obviously he's not redshirting. They may want him ready and available in case sh*t happens.

Oh btw, another update. Jordan Whittington returned to action last Friday in Cuero's win over Wharton. In his first game this season, he caught 12 passes for 183 yards, and two TDs. Not a bad warmup. I think Cuero has a bye this week, so he should be well ready for district play next week.

Green played vs Tulsa and KSU. No other games. He can play in 2 more and redshirt with the new rule.

Herman has already said that Kyle Porter is going to redshirt, so he'll be around for an extra year.

He will probably a pretty good back at the FCS level or possible G5 level. Never saw enough explosiveness from him to warrant the P5 level of play.

He was a good enough athlete coming out of high school to be a good player at the G5 level
