Chip - you were a big reason I kept my DMN subscription for so long here in Austin. Not blowing smoke - Over all the years when I opened to the sports page I would always look for Blackie's column on Sunday and your coverage on any day. Happy to have had your expertise on this site. Best wishes. Are you still going to do your radio gig on 104?
Thanks Stanislaus. Those thoughts mean a lot. Yes, I'm still doing mornings on 104.9.
Ironically, we might soon be working together on the radio side more than ever. What a world, huh?
Chip doing more with Yahoo Sports Radio or you doing more with 104.9?

My sources indicate to me that Chip is leaving to join the Pac16. I'll have a writeup later this morning.

Seriously, though, congrats to Chip and good luck with your future endeavors over at Scout. Wish you the best of luck.

I'm not going to lie, this is going to hurt. I was a member before Chip came on board and I'll be a member for a long time. But I've always said hiring Chip was the best thing Geoff ever did for this website.

We will miss you greatly Chip. I can't imagine what Fox/247 is offering that would pull you away (I'm assuming more tv time). But whatever it is, I wish you the best.

Life is nothing but chapters in a storybook. Our chapter with Chip ended, but the book won't go south IMO.

Give us a chance to prove you wrong. One of the great things about this world we live in is that there are a lot of talented people out there doing really good work.

Good luck Chip on the move and I hope it turns out to be all you expect it to be.

You will be missed... But I'm sure the opportunity to go "dumpster hiding" for your next scoop is just around the corner!

Congrats and good luck!

Bleed'n

Hire Steven A Smith and make him type his stories in all caps to reflect his emphasis on every word...oh, and congratulations and best of luck to Chip.

Good luck, Chip. As a news editor myself, I've always admired your work/work ethic from afar. Just really stellar, careful, transparent journalism at its best (sports or otherwise). I wish if I could find more grinders like you for my own part of the web/news world.

Hate to see you go Chip, you have added so much to the site. Will be interested to see if some one can be found to fill your shoes. Thanks again & good luck.

I think the TV aspect of Fox was one that really interests Chip.
I thought Chip had more of a radio face then a TV face

The weirdest thing about this thread is easily the angst towards Lance .Z.

My man brings a charge out of some of you.

McComas is the pretty boy on the site.

Good luck to you, Chip, in your new endeavor. I've never been a multi-site guy (from everything I've seen all they do is steal their stories and thoughts from Orangebloods), but with you at FOX/Scout.com that is going to change.

GK - good luck in your search, I'll always be a member of Orangebloods no matter who comes and goes for as long as the good Lord is willing to allow me.

Ketch, you ever hear of a non-compete clause?
I wasn't going to stand in the way on any level of him having this opportunity. In fact, I let him make this move with a little time left on his contract.

I would never want to step in his way of trying to make his life better and pursuing unfinished business. A lot of of attention will be placed on the web site of things, but this is a global opportunity that really interested him. If you truly love some, letting them go can sometimes be the biggest show of proof you can give.
Glad to see you are handling this departure more graciously than that of Gerry Hamilton many years ago. Yes, I know we don't know the whole story, but the "end result" was still finding a new opportunity.

Ketch - kudos to you for doing right by a friend! As we all know, what goes around, comes around.

Chip - loved your work, respected your journalistic integrity, appreciated your hard, hard effort, and always enjoyed your sense of humor. Best of luck in the new gig! Know you'll be missed.

Dude brings nothing outside of SEC Guy. Although the absolute worst would be that NFL a--hole who essentially did nothing but insult OBers when he was online. Chris Who Gives a F*ck What His Last Name Is.

Hahah I was going to post the same thing. Ketch, Chris Landry is not an upgrade.

I'm hoping that means we will see you back on the air in Austin.

Best wishes Chip - you're an OBer for life, don't forget that - hope you keep your account and chime in from time to time -

I've become much more of a lurker in recent times due to job and family taking more of my time but I will say that Chip has been one of the best things that has happened at OB. Not taking anything away from guys like Dustin who has and does a great job, when Chip came aboard it was a splash akin to Texas hiring Saban. Chip had been a name writer from the print world at a major print outlet in the Dallas Morning News and him coming to OB was exciting to say the least. I still recall the announcement and how big of a shock it was to us all. Good luck to you Chip and please come around periodically to drop your wisdom on us.

There have been times where I've thought about leaving the site. But at the end of the day Ketch and Jason and company have always found a way to keep me around and ensure that they are the best out there. Each and every time someone has made a move you guys have responded and kept yourself at the top. I can't wait to see who is brought in to replace Chip. I have no doubts that it will be someone great.

a. Like you said, you don't know the whole story. If you did, you liely wouldn't have made this post.
b. The situations were completely different in every fashion with the exception that leaving keep both related.
c . I have never spoken an ill-word about Gerry and have showed him professional respect since he left. I would argue that the art of graciousness sometimes needs to be shared both ways before one side can give it freely.

Best of luck, Chip. Besides being an excellent reporter, you are one of the good guys.

I have always been a big fan of Chips...have been listening to him on radio since he came to Austin and was resident of the DFW (FW) community back when Chip was "making his bones". I truly do think no one researches a situation and does his dead level best to be accurate and honest in his reporting of any situation. In the world of sports reporting I am not sure you can ever take 100% of what a reporter says "to the bank". But Chip has to be batting over .900 and that is pretty damn near impossible.
Every morning I drive in waiting for Chip to proclaim ,"In the immortal words of Judy Brown, Happiness is a choice". Some "on- air personalities" just become part of your life.....whether they want to or not. Chip is one of those people. I am very sad to see him leave OB but wish only the best for him because of all the humor, entertainment, and positivity he has provided to my daily 2 hour drive time over many years...and the wonderful sports journalism here on OB.
Sure Ketch will find a great replacement...but no way to ever replace Chip in the truest sense of the word.

Best wishes Chip! Candidly though...aren't you ready to slow down and work on your golf game?
