Testosterone
Your body naturally makes testosterone. However, when we are in our 30s, the amount of testosterone in males begins a downward trend. It has been well-documented that every decade, we are seeing a decline in the average male testosterone by age. One epidemiologic study concluded that 50 years ago, the average 75-year-old had testosterone levels the equivalent of today’s 35-year-old male. There are theories about why this is happening, from environmental factors like BPAs in plastics to near-field radiation emitted by cell phones. The truth is we do not know why this is happening. Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)
BHRT is testosterone in a pellet form (about the size of a grain of rice) derived from plants and structurally identical to human testosterone. In contrast, injectable Testosterone is derived from horse serum. BHRT pellets provide sustained optimal testosterone levels for around four to six months. Subcutaneous implantation is a minor surgical procedure with minimal associated risks.
The most significant benefit of BHRT vs. other testosterone-boosting methods is that patients see a regular pattern of increased testosterone during the day and lower levels at night, which is known as a “diurnal pattern” and is critical to improved function. Moreover, there is a lessened risk of side effects like gynecomastia (man boobs) and testicular atrophy with pellets vs. injectable testosterone.
