Max Abmas is likely to announce very soon that he's transferring to Texas as a grad transfer. That's a big get. He's probably the best shooter and most prolific scorer in the nation. On the flip side, he's weak defensively so RT will have to get creative to hide his defensive issues. He's barely 5'10"
All the sites i'm reading have him listed as 6'1".

Most basketball players in college and pro levels exaggerate their height and weight. Abmas might be 5’11” max. With shoes, inserts and extra thick socks he might get to 6’ and a quarter inch so they round up to 6’1”

Either way he’s short and opposing teams will be looking to post him up any chance they get.

With that in mind, I believe he’s a definite upgrade offensively and is much better on that end than both Arterio Morris and AJ Johnson. This guy is a legit scoring machine - a big time sniper. Reminds me of AJ Abrams.

If he can get us 20+ points per game I wouldn't care if he's 4 foot lol. The defensive worry is a legit concern though.

God I hope not. Biggest fool’s gold player in recent Texas basketball history.
Abmas is definitely a boom or bust prospect. We won't be a top 5 defensive team next season unless we also bring in a couple of ball hawking wings, a play-making wing (like Timmy Allen) and a big man who can switch out on all positions and knock down threes. I would bring Abmas off the bench as a designated scorer and bucket machine. Unfortunately, much of his offensive production will be offset by the baskets he' gives up on defense.

AJ Abmas plays defense?

Ryan and cali, I am eagerly awaiting your spin.

AJ Abmas plays defense?
He tries but unfortunately he's just not built to hold his ground defensively. It's like having a 200 pound DT.

So far we have Carr gone, Allen gone, Bishop gone, Morris gone, and Hunter and Mitchell also potentially gone. By no means is it too late to grab reinforcements out of the portal but RT better ramp up his recruiting skills pretty quick or else we'll be playing a lot of Cole Bott next season.

AJ Johnson going pro sucks, but at the same time. If you look at successful programs as far as the tournament goes most teams have expierence at the guard position. Sp out of any of the recruits to lose I’d rather lose Johnson than I would holland.

Texas is in a good position with a couple guards out of the portal. I also think Hunter will be back. Mitchell will be back as well let everything shake out

I don't know what time zone you live in but try to watch our Sacramento Kings tonight. We're playing the warriors tonight on national tv this is game 1.

Go Kings

Mitchel is gone. Hunter is likely gone. We have no one in the middle. Cole Bott is going to be starting for us next year.

Both guys will be back. They are late 2nd round guys at best if they do stay on the draft if would be a pretty big mistake.

Texas just got a commitment from Virginia big man Karin shedrick. This gives Texas the rim protector it was missing last year. I think Mitchell probably comes back, and you got Holland. The front court for 2023 is set

Shedrick Stat Line for Virginia last year: 17.5 MPG, 6.4 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 1.4 BPG, 64.7 FG%, 79.4 FT%

Impressive numbers considering he played only 17.5 MPG and also played for one of the slowest-pace teams in the country last year. If you project his block percentage out to like 25 MPG and the faster pace we play at it’d easily be up over 2 BPG. So I’d say we landed a legit rim protector. He’s offensively efficient and well above average from the FT line for a big man. He will also likely be our best rebounder next season.

Combine Shedrick, Disu and Holland and we have a formidable front court assembled for next season.

Well RT takes another hit, Ron Holland decommits. This is a huge loss. He's one of the best players in the country. I don't have a good feeling about the RT experience so far.

Sounds like someone offered him a bag of money. Because 3 weeks ago he was all in even suggested that hiring Terry was WHY he was staying, and everything that has happened in the last couple weeks have only been positive. Sounds like this is about NIL nothing more.

Everyone loves to watch a train wreck. This is the part where it falls apart. Ya, we have a couple of transfers but nothing out of the high schools. I guess CBB is going to be all about transfers and no high school recruiting.

He’s most likely going pro overseas or joining the NBA G League. I’m guessing this is about money. AJ Johnson is going to make $1 million tax free in Australia. I bet Ron sees that and wonders why not go that route.

The NBA needs to get rid of their ridiculous 1 year out of HS rule. If a team wants to draft a young elite prospect out of HS they should allow it to happen. That rule is hurting college programs since they only get to have these players for one year only. You can’t build a program that way.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Look - RT is a likeable guy. I'm rooting for him. He did a great job last year. Which was the first time in a long career that he has been anything but mediocre. .500. Average. And whether you will admit it or not, it was with a roster built by his predecessor.

Its waaaay early, but it looks like his roster building skills are reverting to the norm. We all want to give a pass to the players for taking NIL money. FREAKING UT IS THE MOST VALUABLE BRAND IN THE USA! HOW DOES IT EVER GET OUTSPENT BY ANYONE - FOR A PLAYER OR A COACH!! We'll never know what went on behind the scenes, but I'm disappointed that with more money than anyone in the country they couldn't get a bigger name as head coach.

Yeah but we also don’t know how much NIL money is flowing to the basketball guys. No question UT HAS the money. We don’t know if it’s being used.

Like I said Ron Holland made a very public display 3-4 weeks ago about being all in and even suggested that had Terry not been given the job he wouldn’t have been at Texas.

Then a few days after adding 3 impact guys(2 out of the portal and 1 announced his return) and now he’s decided he’s out. The timing seems very odd. Given all that.

It's weird we lost him others are right he was all in and said there is unfinished business with us losing in the elite 8. He played for Dunc where they weren't able to play in the playoffs, our Basketball team is looking more and more like a sh!+ show everyday.

I can't keep up.

I need a recap.

What recruits gave we lost thus far?

Maybe it’s just me, but aren’t 5* recruits making more than $1 million at top schools? Ewers and Bijan were rumored to make way more than that.

Apparently, Ewers and Bijans NIL valuations are much more lucrative because of their higher exposure and name recognition. Also, football is a sport with a higher following than any other sport.

What recruits gave we lost thus far?
Our two cornerstone recruits (AJ Johnson and Ron Holland) for 2023 have decommitted. Both are 5 star players and ranked in the top 10 nationally. Both were recruited by RT while CB was still the coach. After CB was fired, both recruits unequivocally reaffirmed their commitment and they stated that it was because of RT.

One week ago, AJ Johnson decommitted to go play professionally in Australia where they have a Rising Stars league to attract young talent from around the world. Yesterday, Ron Holland announced his decommitment and says he’s opening up his recruitment but he’s still considering UT (which is bullshyt - he ain’t coming back). My guess is that he’s also considering professional offers to play overseas.

There’s also more drama with Dillon Mitchell. He liked a tweet from a random loser fan who said RT was one of the worst coaches in CBB. He later removed his like of that tweet.

Mitchell has declared for the draft (which is a big mistake). Ty Hunter also declared but is likely to return for another season.

Arterio Morris just announced his commitment to transfer to Kansas.

So far for 2023 we have a grand total of zero HS recruits. But we did bring in two big time transfers in Max Abmas and the big center from Virginia (Kaden Shedrick).

We’ll have a solid starting 5 but as of now we have no depth. I’m not sure it’s time to panic as there’s still a lot of portal players available. But RT has a lot of work to do.

College basketball is transitioning very quickly. The portal is now the primary way to build a roster with HS recruiting secondary. The top HS players are going pro even with NIL.
