I’m curious as to why Burnt Vegetables didn’t try to step in and defend his coach. He needs to show some leadership here. Also what about the player who had the N word on his IPad? Is anything going to happen to him? Probably not but will be interesting to follow.

It's a double standard.

Everything I’m reading says this went well over the HC’s head. I saw a presser from Venables on Monday, I believe, his Fall camp presser and everyone was wondering why his demeanor was totally subdued, I think he was dealing with this deal, at least that’s my opinion.

Here’s my take based on what I’ve seen. In the world we live in you can’t say that word in a public setting regardless of the context. Gundy did and got dealt with. Now it’s the player’s turn to get dealt with. He’s a paid professional at this point, if he’s jacking around and on his IPad when he’s supposed to be in a meeting learning, he needs to face a consequence. That’s the great thing about NIL, it’s a double edged sword. I’d strip the player of NIL and tell him to kick rocks

NIL is an endorsement contract between the athlete and a 3rd Party. Coaches will have very limited ability to do anything regarding funds especially if the players hired agents to negotiate the contracts.

Who said coaches? OU scholarship players are making $40,000-$50,000 a year as a base salary so to speak and whatever else on top of that. An NIL deal doesn’t ensure a player a position on a roster and they must meet certain criteria to be in good standing with that NIL deal. I’d be willing to bet the player’s conduct is also being scrutinized under this scenario.

The kid in question would probably be doing himself a favor by transferring out because he’s going to be a target of players and fans judging from the responses I’m seeing.

You can't strip the player of the NIL because it's a 3rd party source and doesn't have anything to do with the university.

Ahhhh I see, you don’t think there’s any collusion? You think the NIL booster just went rogue and signed Arch Manning up with no direction from the inside? Come on man, you’re not that naive. You think it’s just a free for all if a player signs an NIL? Really? No requirements on the players part?

The players definitely have to take responsibility. Yes, the NIL boosters are separate from the school but if they had any integrity they would be the one to exercise punishment to the player in the form of a cancelled NIL agreement. I’m certain there are conduct clauses in those NIL contracts.

There's already conduct clauses built into those NIL contracts. It's just like any other contract. But the school isn't the one pulling the strings on the money end of it, that i'm sure of. You really think some billionaire is going to let another person tell him what to do with is money? I think not.

I still can’t wrap my head around Gundy getting fired for reading something off a player’s Ipad. Saying it on your on accord or circulating it is different, but good grief

I think we're kind of saying the same thing here. I'm not saying the school is pulling ALL of the strings but I am saying that a school through back channels is having a hell of a lot of input. Let use Arch Manning as an example. And @clob94 already eluded to this previously, and it happens at every school, a prospective athlete is made aware during recruitment through whatever channel, that there is a certain amount of NIL money dedicated to him. Now, say during that recruitment "enticement" period, the Manning camp is not enthused with the amount of NIL money dedicated for the QB and tell the boosters etc. through whatever channel that they are not happy with that enticement and believe that they deserve at bigger enticement.

Do you honestly believe that Sark is going to give full reign to a booster to either make or break a recruiting deal with their star prospective qb without having a say so? If UT booster was willing to pay Manning $2 million NIL but Mannings camp made it well known that they wanted $2.5 million under no scenario is that booster going to say Nope, without asking Sark et al how important that recruit is to their overall goals. Under that scenario what would stop your boosters from just going out on their own and making backdoor enticement offers to 10 qb's on their own and throwing the UT football recruiting process into full disarray?

The player will get processed.
Not sure what "processed" implies in this context, but like MM stated, there is a double standard. Some here are overly naive if they believe there will be any meaningful consequence for the player. No NIL contributor would be willing to publicly reprimand a player, for acting within his accepted cultural norms, and risk the ire of the woke SJWs.

In order for NIL to be legit it has to be an endorsement contract for Name, Image, Likeness. There are two types of student athletes. Those that actually have a large enough social media following to justify large endorsement deals and Power 5 football players. The ones of high value to business with no ties to the university have signed with giants like CAA and IMG. Those are negotiated with agents and probably have all kinds of clauses with them. I imagine at this stage the booster contracts aren't all that sophisticated and are basically like use #redmccombsford 3 times on your insta and you get to lease a 2022 F150 for the 22, 23 school year free of charge. I really want someone to leak one of these deals.

I'm friends with a former IMG head coach. Those deals seem to be similarly structured.

sark press notes

full pads tomorrow
freshman O-line all preforming pretty well, look and play the part.

Clob have you heard anything practice report wise ?

Just pretty much the same as everyone is talking about.

Ewers makes it go "hissssssss" and nobody else can match his throws. And when they try to amp up their velocity it oftentimes results in poor throws. I've heard there's a disconcerting amount of balls hitting the turf-- and it isn't because guys are doing up downs.
You won't hear many Bijan "ooooooooos" and "ahhhhhhhhhhs" that aren't "manufactured" by the media because they ain't letting anyone "tackle" him.
Fatties got a long way to go. Will probably be at least one fish starting the opener.
Defense is being taught to create as many turnovers as possible-- because they ain't stopping sh!t.
Haven't heard anything about pass rush yet probably because it's too early.

Supposedly Ewers looks better throwing the ball..but he isn't getting the playbook down.

There are layers of protection for the universities for the time being. 👍

Are there boosters with integrity?

A couple practice nuggets from IT and 247 insiders

“Junior Angilau and Cole Hutson are fighting Jake Majors for the starting Center job.

The second string OL is now all freshmen - last week they were all third string”

It’s all coming together.

If Junior is running at C, who is LG?

If Junior moves to center, then it is obvious that Flood wants 6-6 and taller dudes on the OL...in every spot. Unless you are an absolute animal a la Devon Campbell.

I still think this is game 1 OL

I heard he was getting some work at C but Majors is going to be the starter game 1. Also sounds like the freshman are moving up the depth chart pretty quick.

I like your 5 but I would put Connor at RG over Hutson.

Hoping we don't have a big ego thing going on and lazy playbook studier because Arch will know the playbook.
It’s pretty concerning that he hasn’t picked up on the playbook by now. I have heard Sark’s offense is pretty complex though. He better get his nose in that playbook if he wants to become a great QB. You won’t find many really good QBs that aren’t avid students of the game.

I’m rooting for you guys to have a dominate Oline because I don’t want Will aAnderson to win the Heisman going away in the 2nd week because we’ve got a dark horse Samoan Southpaw cinderella story unfolding on our hands this year.

There isn’t a defensive coordinator in the world losing sleep over having to face Dillon Gabriel.
