Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (40 Qs for Art Briles at Media Day)

Smh at the complaining about too much baylor on the site lately.

Its the offseason. What is going on there is WAY more important than more "Whats the best BBQ" threads or "What should I watch on Netflix". Texas doesnt play a game for months.

I'm all for this site contiuing to help expose the shit show Baylor is

Like I said, I think Briles, Starr and the entire Baylor Administration deserve serious questioning. But you know you're not going to get 40+ questions at Media Days, you know it, I know it and everyone knows it. But putting that many questions up like that when you have a captive audience that checks in every week to check in on Texas football is more than indulgent. I will be in Dallas for Media Days and I will prepare for the barrage. Until then, can we talk more about Texas Sports?
There was plenty of Texas sports talk in this column. If I had put that section 7th instead of 1st, you almost certainly wouldn't have said a word.

Of course, we're not getting 40+ questions at media day. That's not really the point.

Don't Hager and Fowler also fit into the tweener category?

Also, I have been to Rio more than 20 times and I was astonished the Olympics were awarded to such a corrupt and disfunctional third world country. That money being spent is desperately needed to reduce their rampant poverty and clean up that filthy city.
Hager certainly would, but he wasn't rated high, so he wasn't included.

Yes, Fowler would as well. Something to think about moving forward, while we watch him develop.

I'm no Ketch fanboy but I appreciate him not letting the Baylor story die by moving on. Yes, I realize that other outlets are in on it now but I honestly believe that OB really kept this active and am proud of the fight to get some sort of retribution for these young women.

We will all get back to college football soon enough, but we should never forget how lucky we are to have a coach that would never allow such a thing to happen, when not that long ago several of us wanted Briles as our coach. Obviously, none of us knew the kind of douche he really is, but our selection committee did their job well in eliminating this cancer from the process.
Moving on and focusing on college football is what they did last fall and it worked. We... the entire nation... cannot allow that to happen twice.

The victims deserve better.

6-3, 230ish is 6-3, 230ish. The numbers are what they are.

I don't think a 17-18 year old kid coming in at 6'3" 230 necessarily makes them a tweener. FWIW, a guy you absolutely love, Fowler, is 6'2" 225. In Eddie Jones defense, he obviously had health issues coming in (bad knees).

Whole lotta Texas stuff in the column. Section 2. Section 3. Section 4. Section 5. Section 6. Section 7.

Bit of a stretch there. Section 2 is nothing more than a ranking of Big 12 WR group EXCLUDING Texas, ironically. You throw in one blurb about our WR. Section 3 is about "tweeners" and really has nothing to do with Texas. So essentially there isn't a "whole lotta" Texas stuff going on in this week's thoughts.

Your response does not seem to match. The question is whether you expect a SMALLER class. You give it a "BUY", so you expect less than 24, then you proceed to say we could take 25. I take it the response should be "SELL",... or you don't think the team is going to have a good season.

I think at best it's a coin toss that the '17 class is bigger than the 24 in '16. Right now, excluding Roberson and Santos, both of whom are still on the official roster, we have 63 schollie players. We expect to have 20 more report between now and August including Fowler and Southall. That leaves us 83. We have a relatively small group of seniors at 13. So right now we would project to have 15 slots available come February. So that's going to require a lot of attrition and common sense dictates that now that Charlie is in year 3, the attrition is going to slow. Looking at the list of rising juniors (seniors for '17) I don't see a ton of names (perhaps 3-4) who could be seen as legit candidates to forego a final year for "greener" pastures. If I had to choose right now, I would say that the '17 class is slightly smaller than 24.

No you are right. I strongly think we do have Baylor folks who do watch everything that is said about them just as much as the Ags do about us.
if it means answering the questions that need to be answered, I don't care that they know any questions in advance.

These aren't trick questions.

Under the definition of tweener, yes.

He's probably not quite 6-3 and he's not 240 pounds coming out. He was rated as a linebacker coming out, though, and not as a pure defensive end.

I feel like question #15 is a very important one.....If the Baylor staff has in any way tried to bully or bribe any victims into not pressing charges or feeling like something bad could happen to them if they did just so kids could keep playing football then Baylor is going to be taken apart over that.
There is strong reason to believe that this happened. Sources that know the victim have told us that these are the questions that need answers to.

@Ketchum, Brian Orakpo fell into that category and he turned out alright.
Technically, he missed the tweener status because he was listed at 6-4. HIstory shows that you can be one or the other (6-3 and under/under 240 pounds), but rarely does a guy that is both hit.

But reality is that Orakpo is and was 6'3".

FWIW, I think it's pretty unfair to somehow put Roberson in the washout category given he actually showed some flash as a REDSHIRT FROSH and I think it's clear that his future career is very much in doubt not because of being a "tweener" but d/t the concussion he has working.
All of these guys have their own stories. The bottom line is that in 10 years from now, he'll just be part of the sample size that shows how hard it is for players with his size to make a big impact. Let's not act like he was pushing for starting snaps when he suffered the concussion, but yes, your point is fair.

Good stuff Ketch and gang. @Ketchum can non media show up to the presser in Dallas? I'm extremely interested in making a trip to Dallas to watch y'all Odor Briles.

The bottom line is that only one player rated as a defensive end coming out of HS with those measurements (among top-rated prospects) has panned out as a big-time player in the last 15 years.

Fowler was technically rated as a linebacker, which puts him in a different category.

The whole point of No.2 is to identify where Texas ranks among the league. Yes, section three had to do with Texas, as it directly rated to recruiting conversation that impacts discussion related to UT recruiting.

We're still talking about a couple thousand words.

If I failed to meet your standards for me...

a. sorry.
b. says a lot about my standards.

Ok, but I only went off of Rivals measurements (I certainly didn't have time to go through every player in the last 15 years and nitpick what Rivals listed them under.

But, if you want to count him, that's fine. It doesn't change the discussion much.

No. It's closed to non-media, although people show up at the hotel for autographs and stuff.

I'm wondering win one of the victims at Baylor file suit and refuse to settle out of court. Wouldn't that force some people to testify that otherwise would never speak publicly to the subject? If it were my daughter, there is now way in the world I'd settle out of court.

Easily one of your more curious nitpicks in your game of weekly nitpicking.
