Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (About Texas and NIL...)

Shoeless Joe Jackson batted left and threw right. I'll never understand how they allowed it to be reversed for the movie.

I like Liotta a lot but Shoeless Joe was an illiterate southerner, none of that comes across in his potrayal in Field of Dreams. I'm not saying he wasn't fun to watch, im just saying the portrayal isnt close to historicly accurate

I dunno, man, that's like saying that John C. Reilly isn't the perfect Dr. Jerry Buss because he's 6 inches taller than him in real life.

Naw thats totally different Ketch. Aside from height Riley looks like and embodies Buss' personality really well.

I'm saying what we know historically about Jackson isn't what Liotta does. How Jackson is portrayed in Eight Men Out is probably a lot closer to the truth

Rafael v Djoker isn't as meaningful this time as either likely goes down to Alcarez in the semis.
Alcaraz has never made the semis of a major. He has yet to prove himself among the big boys (or even medium boys) in 3 out of 5 sets. it will happen at some point, but just because he won Madrid does not make him the favorite in Paris.

Alcaraz must improve his forehand consistency if he is going to win the French.

B/S: The defense will allow less than 25 points per game this season.

(Sell) I just don't see enough difference-makers to believe it will be at that level.

I'm getting this Kliff Kingbury - Texas Tech-like 7-5 or 8-4 vibe from you, Ketch.

I think Cop Land is underrated because it’s more a Stallone vehicle as a serious movie. It is a rock solid movie IMO. Good mention
When it first opened, it was Stallone trying to be a serious actor that everyone talked about.

All these years later, it's just a very good film.
Cop Land is definitely an underrated movie. Now I’m going to have to download it for my next flight.

Didn’t Ketch just start following EPL a few years ago? Hard to take you seriously when your sports soul takes a hit after your fandom has spanned a mere half-ish decade. Maybe I’m just not willing to give you the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Warriors in 7. Going to be a really great series. The Warriors have never lost a series in which Steph, Klay, and Draymond start every game. I'm relying on that stat in what is otherwise a rough matchup for my Dubs.

Yep. It’s the only time I dismiss Ketch’s writing and skip to the next topic. It seems so forced, and disingenuous.

I started following the EPL in 2012, and picked Chelsea as my team (mainly because my daughter loved their uniforms😎). I enjoy following them, but there is no way a Chelsea loss tears at my soul. That just isn’t possible after barely a decade of artificial fandom with no real tie to where I’m from or to my childhood experiences.

But that’s Ketch. A few years ago I think he saw the growing popularity of the EPL in America and with OB members, and wanted to be able to intelligently comment on it. That makes sense as a business owner, just not his Liverpool love that either gives him incredible joy or heart-wrenching disappointment.

No. 3 - Players in the Portal worth taking a flyer on ...

Not an OL in sight.

Sark got his free pass last season. Still hasn't acknowledged the near term structural problems....thinks he can fix it by getting talented receivers. I get that there's a bunch of incoming freshman that are supposedly great players, but OL is the most developmental position on the field and freshmen are rarely ready from day one along the line.

Sark doesn't have the time to develop players. He's on the hot seat now. His performance last year was unforgivable in my opinion.

Let's just be honest. His portrayal of Shoeless Joe was far more accurate than your spelling of "historically."

His OL coach is one of the best in the business. Taking an OL just to say you took one, when you have the highest rated OL class in program history coming in, and it is 7 deep, doesn't make sense, unless the kid is a Day 1 starter, like the kid who ended up going back to Georgia. I realize bringing in a warm body may have made YOU feel better. But it wasn't the right move. As for "unforgiveable," how about the fact that there are only 5 scholarship players left on campus for our 2019 recruiting class? Did deeper. Evaluate better. Or shhhhhhhh.....

I don't think anyone that watches that movie cares outside of the most hard-core baseball nerds.

Where do you get that he’s on the hot seat?

From me? I'm not sure it's a me issue. ;)

It's almost been a decade.

I don't really give a flying **** what benefit of the doubt you're willing to give me. Your validation means nothing to me in this instance.

Might be less than 7. I might also just not like the Celtics.

You can deal with an inexperienced QB. You can also deal with a very inexperienced OL. You can't deal with both at the same time.

You can deal with no pass rush. You can also deal with new safeties. You can't deal with both of those at the same time either.

Losing a reliable kicker is bad. There are probably a few more missed field goals this year.

So yah... 7 - 5 is where we are at. Too much kool-aid on this board.

Arch will sign with Texas. Once we land him we will have the type of recruiting class A&M just had. The future is bright. (just not this coming season).
I don;'t believe landing Arch = 2022 A&M recruiting class.

There just aren't any left. There once was, but not now. It's slim everywhere.

They didn't need one just to take one. They needed one to make the team better.

@Ketchum so in your view Texas is or is not a leader in NIL use? I’d guess of late at least Texas is one of the better schools combining big time athletics and top notch academics like Michigan, UNC, UCLA, etc. Thus, without a great knowledge of NIL I’d have guessed we have more wealthy alumni with an interest in sports. I know a UT degree means more than an A&M degree but seems like Aggy out spending us so call me confused.

I believe Texas is a leader.

A&M probably is outspending Texas, but it's not completely NIL related.

I suppose it comes down to how many leaders you think there can be.

If it’s not NIL related…after what they pulled last summer with our SEC announcement and now the recruiting class, Fisher/Saban feud…do the old school SEC schools now make it a point to target A$M to get them in deep water???

They've seemingly done so in the past, but I wouldn't count on it.
