Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (All hell about to break loose)

I'm tired of all the HS kids thinking they must have drama to announce, just fk'n be done with it and don't be a god damned drama Queen.

RIP Glenn Frey... you were the best man and you will be missed!!!!!

Totally agree. One of my favorite song lyrics.

Well known that song was mostly written by Jackson Browne who lived downstairs from Frey and Henley while they were all starving songwriters. Frey said he did not know what a "flat bed Ford" was until Jackson wrote the lyric.

1. Browne lived downstairs from Frey and J.D. Souther.
2. Frey finished the second verse with "it's a girl my lord in a flatbed Ford slowin' down to take a look at me," not Browne.
3. Frey was from Motown and his dad worked in the motor industry. My guess is he knew what a flatbed ford was. ;)

FYI- I just signed up for Texags to see what they're saying, and see that they've posted Ketch's entire post over there. It's in their "Horns meltdown" thread.

Yeah, you are probably a better source than Frey who said many times that Browne was responsible for most of the lyrics and that he, Frey, did not know what a flat bed Ford was. Watch the documentary about The Eagles and learn.

Really? I've seen that documentary about 10 times.
But here you go.

To save you time, here's a quote in there from Frey.

“What a cool tune that is. He started playing it for me and said, ‘Yeah, but I don’t know — I’m stuck.’ So he played the second unfinished verse and I said, ‘It’s a girl, my lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowin’ down to take a look at me.’ That was my contribution to ‘Take It Easy,’ really, just finishing the second verse. Jackson was so thrilled."

Given you were wrong about the living arrangement AND the Take It Easy story perhaps you should actually watch the documentatry.

Yeah, if I was 18 and ESPN wanted to put me on national TV for 5 minutes I would definitely be telling them no because people on message boards disapprove.

Bwahahahahahaha

I can see your bringing your kids up right.

I'm a huge Don Henley fan - my band (classic rock) covers several of his earlier songs. You didn't mention his new album "Cass County" which may be his best ever. It's very different from earlier work - it's a return to his roots, and country. I saw him do several of the new songs on Austin City Limits, and ordered the album on iTunes before the show was over. Some of the most emotional, beautifully crafted songs I've ever heard. He partnered with some monster talents - Miranda Lambert, Merle Haggard, Martina McBride, Dolly Parton and Lucinda Williams to name a few. I can't listen to the song "Train in the Distance" without a tear or two - remarkable song. IMHO, it's a masterpiece - and I'm not a country music guy...

Thanks 67...By midnight I will have it and have listened to it. I have been meaning to but never got around to it, as I am not a huge country fan. But Don can do any music well. He can sing any style and it will be great with that voice. You are right, he's back in his roots...but he broke toward rock when he was pretty young, now he's breaking back it seems.

I can see why you adore the Panhandle.

Any parents here who would tell their child "no son, you cant go on national TV, for what may be the only time in your life, because that would be sinful. Instead, you should mail in your decision to your coach, or go down Druckers store and call your coach on the telephone."?

Lets see, how many of you here thinks kids should turn down that opportunity?

Panhandle? What does my referencing the great people in the panhandle have to sowing this?

If they are announcing on TV HS their most likely going to be on it in college.

I hope I've raised my kids well enough to not need attention like this. They would pick up the phone and call the coach and say yes I commit.

Fell free to allow yours all the tv time you want.

You probably should re-watch it.

I think Charlie has a MUCH better feel for the current recruiting environment than the haters will ever give him credit for.

Paging @cujo0622...or Geoff...whoever you are. If Charlie ends up anywhere close to the Top 10, I will beat you senseless with ridicule. You had a good laugh about the suggestion a few weeks ago. How do you feel now professor?

Because a month ago noone predicted what was happening in aggyville. I will gladly take my bowl of crow

I don't remember what all was said about that projection a month ago, and I'm not here to pile on, but has happened in collieville hardly started 5-6 weeks ago. There's been real signs of it coming for a long time. I said as much at least 12 months ago, that Sumlin was losing steam and '15 was going to be a crucial year for him. Obviously they fell flat and trended down for the third straight season and now we are seeing the effects.

Obviously yes, but the recruiting trend was not predictable. Specially when you consider a month ago djack was all fsu, elliot was all UM, the shark was prob going to a&m or UM, b jones was all aggy.

Again no one saw this coming.

I've tried my best in the last few months to explain the math involved of a top 10-15 ranking.

Things would have to break very badly for the Longhorns not to make it in the 15-20 range. Getting above that will require a run.
