Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (All hell about to break loose)

"From an anticipation standpoint, the meter is pretty maxed out. What awaits is either glory or the ultimate recruiting cautionary tale. Should Strong pull off a top 10-level class for the second straight year, all questions about his recruiting methods will need to be put to bed, as the only question left about Strong at that point will be centered on his ability to actually win games in Austin."

This is a pretty big question, wouldnt you say?

I am not 100% convinced we are going to have an epic finish to the recruiting year that some are projecting, but I will say this.....even though we are currently ranked 48th in the Rivals team ranking, if you reorder the rankings by average recruit (3.38) we are currently in 15-16 range. Just having only 13 commits really hurts our overall ranking.

Just FYI...lyrics for "Take It Easy" were written by Jackson Browne. Music by Jackson Browne (unfinished) and finished by Glen Frey.
The framework was written by Jackson Brown and the first two verses, but Glenn Frey's addition was not insignificant. Glenn Frey took "I was sittin' on a corner in Winslow, Arizona" and turned it into:

"I was sittin' on a corner in WInslow, Arizona,
Such a fine site to see,
There's a girl my lord,
In a flat bed Ford,
Slowing down to take a look at me,
Come on baby,
Don't say maybe,
I gotta know if your sweet love is gonna save me"

IMO, Glenn Frey turned a good song into a masterpiece. I love Jackson Browne, but you have to give Glenn Frey plenty of credit for "Take It Easy". Glenn Frey had his quirks, but he was one hell of a songwriter.

If Strong can recruit at this level when his team is stumbling around on the field with a losing record, what happens if he ever fully turns it around and starts to win big?

There it is, Ketch ... the operative question. That's why I think it was worth it to run the risk and keep Charlie around for another year and, I think, two. If we give him time he's going to crush it. Just needed to figure a couple of things out.

No doubt.

Bingo was his name-O.

- Signing day will be definitely be a historic day in Texas recruiting history. I'm not sure how any of the coaches sleep between now and signing day.

- It's Cam Newton's world. He's been remarkable with receivers that would be the No. 3 option on most teams. Ted Ginn Jr. couldn't stick with any team throughout his career.

- Carson Palmer had one of the worst performances in the playoffs by a quarterback I've ever seen. I was hoping he would stop throwing the football because it was that bad.

Charlie's recruiting strategy of waiting till the last month to step up is hurting the overall ability of
the team to land a top class. IMO he could have had some of the same recruits earlier if
he had worked it sooner. Lack of a running back in this class is a mistake. No way we should have lost Whaley
to Arkie. Too many last minute decisions, hoping to flip recruits from other schools makes no sense.
"Out of Eden" should be on your Eagles list.
You're wrong. I'd rather be the last thing on the recruits mind going into NSD instead of the first thing so they have time to look at other schools and decommitt. Decommitts are worse then non commits. Decommitts can seriously kill your recruiting class. Ask The ags

Good write up Ketch, you and the staff do great work. I don’t care about soccer either, however I just don' read it, and it doesn’t bother me that it’s there. I don’t understand why it bothers some people. Just go to the next section. I don’t read the music section when that particular genre isn’t my taste either, just skip it.

Lots of fail there. From start to finish.

1. Take it Easy

The first song on the very first Eagles album. All these years later, it’s still one of the great rock anthems and Frey’s charisma carries the entire song.

“Well, I'm a standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona and such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford slowin' down to take a look at me.”

What a lyric. What a song. What greatness.

a. Xanax

b. To be fair with Ginn, he's played with quarterback mush for most of his career. He's become a key receiver with a better quarterback...er... the best quarterback.

c. Even Old Yeller was put down...

I don't know why folks won't let us soccer nerds have a little space.

OB posters have created an enormous bar.

If you go in not expecting some sweeping cinematic spectacle of historic proportion then you will be fine. Again, we enjoyed it for what it was.

Too late. I'm expecting a top three film for 2015.

Possibly disappointed? Looking at your top 5, I've seen The Big Short, Sicario and Creed. It sure as heck wasn't better than the Big Short nor Sicario for me. I'm also much more likely to see Creed multiple times when it's in cable rotation. Revenant not so much. JMO.

Almost as bad as Garrett Gilbert against KSU when he threw 72 pics. Might need to fact check me but it was embarrassingly bad for everyone. KSU fans were almost irate that he was still in there series after series just to throw it to the guys wearing purple. Imagine how we felt. Ahhh, how far we have come as a program from that time...
