Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend ("Charlie's guys" have taken over)

Most all great coaches have huge egos which lead to being a little selfish at times. No great coach wants to leave or be asked to step down. All the great ones think they can turn it around. I remember the last few years of Tom Landry with Dallas and honestly just like Mack he should have stepped down at least 2 or 3 years before he was let go. To the bitter end Coach Landry thought he could turn it around and get the job done when in reality the team would have been better off if he had retired a couple of years earlier.
Mack was set to walk away and then when he didn't get the storybook finish, he decided he was going to stay until he got it, even though he didn't have the hunger, energy, production or know-how that he had when he was truly a great coach.

Even at the end, his motives were selfish, as he tried to play games in the final week on the job.

That's not an opinion, that's what happened.

Yet lots of people have. I just thought the show was disappointing overall and she added nothing special other than her ass
Again, you don't think Beyonce added anything special?

I would offer her ass alone made that show better.

I won't argue your last point. Maybe it's just not for me but I couldn't wait for that show to be over. I really enjoyed Bruno two years ago, Prince was great, Michael Jackson of course. This one just fell into the group of forgettable shows for me.

Not disagreeing with your opinion just stating that with a lot of the great ones the ending isn't always pleasant. This goes for athletes as well. Sad as hell seeing Tony Dorsett in a Bronco uniform and Emmitt in a Cardinal uniform.

I agree, but Beyonce lifted a sinking ship up for a few minutes IMO. I think it's a consensus opinion.

Yes, but those situations aren't remotely the same.

Holy Sh**. I just saw the movie "Room". Didn't do any research on it, but decided to see it late just because you had it so high on your list of actresses. HOLY SH**. I've never seen anything like that. What a hell of a ride. I've never been so terrified, and yet so hopeful, at the same time. I have no idea how they did that. And it never felt forced or contrived.

Just. Wow. That movie needs a warning on it. But I'm not even sure what the warning would be. "This movie will absolutely f*** you up, but kinda in a really good way that you'll be glad about."

He was head and shoulders better than Heard in practice last year.

Texas doesn't have anyone who has demonstrated that they should be a starter at Texas.
You talking about practice man, practice!

Yeah man, it will take the wind out of you. It's an emotional experience to say the least.

This is as good a short explanation of the end that I have seen. Although, I think he missed his chance a couple of years earlier when things were going our way to bump it up by playing a big time OOC schedule and starting a rivalry with LSU for instance. We were playing OU, Ark and A&M at the time and I thought that by adding LSU on a home & home plus a game in Houston every third year, we would have the biggest four games in Texas at that time. If any HS recruit wanted to play in those four games, he would have to play at Texas.
Mack told me that if you wanted to play for the MNC (without any playoff system) you could not have a loss and playing that schedule (plus I wanted another big OOC game or two each year) would make it impossible to be undefeated.
I still like Mack and think he was great for Texas.
