Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Does a splash OC even exist?)

@Ketchum if you were the HC, what would your offensive staff look like?

OC
OL
RB
TE
WR
Hmmmm....

I mean... this is my dream team staff, right?

OC/QB - Jeff Brohm (Western Kentucky)
OL - Adrian Klemm (UCLA)
RB - Frank Wilson (LSU)
TE - Jeff Traylor (Texas)
WR - Mike Groh (I'd pay him whatever it took to come back from the NFL)

@Ketchum ,
What about a guy like Scott Frost the Oregon OC? He was at Nebraska, KState, and northern Iowa before going to Oregon and he's been there 3 years now and is consistently high in all the offensive stats.
His next job will almost certainly be a head coaching job, but if anyone deserves a million per year offer, it's him.

Klitschko / Fury was the kind of fight that is killing boxing. Not sure what happened to the great heavyweight fights. Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Holmes, Ali, Frazier all fought like warriors. They were great for the game. These two guys did as close to nothing as I've seen in a heavyweight title fight. Too bad.
The heavyweight division actually has some interesting fights looming. This last one wasn't it, though, even if the post-fight celebration was the stuff of legend,

Ketch, do you think its possible charlie doesn't hire a oc at all and stays with norvell? /QUOTE]
I do not. That's not where Charlie's head is and it is not what is going to be demanded of him behind the scenes.

Yes, it means absolutely nothing. The only thing that matters is his track record here at Texas which is also nothing. The dude has been a colossal failure and needs to be fired.
When it comes to developing players, he had some success at Texas and his current first true recruiting class has been on campus for months. I'd argue you'd have to lean on his record at Louisville in that regard because of sample size.

@Ketchum
I know we're at the end of season, but are we going to get video reports again in the future??? I really enjoyed those.
Probably, but you're literally the first person in months to bring it up. For whatever reason, video content is not well received in this market.

Why does every change at Texas always start out with the recommendation to just throw out a huge sum of money and see who is tempted ? If I were a major donor and kept seeing that talk I would seriously think I needed to save some of my money.
If you were a major donor, you'd just want to win, almost by any means needed.

Tired of this being the go to explanation of why we hired him and will keep him another year. All of that goodwill is bestowed upon another school while we shell out 5m for the clown show. So yes it means nothing.
For all of his failures, and there have been many, this seems unreasonable.

@Ketchum, your weekly coverage of the EPL is really enjoyable. Though our loyalties could not be any more at odds (Chelsea v Liverpool), you're doing your very best to promote European soccer and I wanted you to know that this (European) transplanted American both recognizes and appreciates it. Well done!
I've turned into a junkie. I watched about 10 hours of EPL this weekend.

If the season ended today, the Cowboys would own the fifth overall pick and here’s a look at my five favorite players for that slot.

1. DT - Robert Nkemdiche (Ole Miss)

There’s a good chance he won’t make it to five, but the Dallas defense needs a monster in the middle of its defensive line and Nkemdiche certainly qualifies as such.

2. WR - Laquan Treadwell (Ole Miss)

The best wide receiver in the draft would provide a serious upgrade over Terrence Williams, take pressure off of Dez Bryant and would help open up the running game.

3. CB - Jalen Ramsey (Florida State)

If the Cowboys don’t resign Morris Claiborne, a replacement at cornerback will be a major priority and it probably still will be, even if they do re-sign Claiborne.

4. QB - Jared Goff (California)

I’m not that I love Goff, but he would certainly provide the Cowboys with perhaps their best chance at an eventual replacement for Romo that fate will eventually provide.

5. DT - Andrew Billings (Baylor)

Call me crazy, but I think Billings is going to be the second-coming of St. Louis defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Maybe the Cowboys collect a future first-round pick, drop down in the draft five or six spots and select a guy who could be their anchor on defense for the next half-decade or longer.

No Vernon Hargreaves III? I like him better at CB then Ramsey, I see him more as an impact Safety. I'd like either, but in said positions. I'd be ok I guess with Goff but I just don't see any sure things at QB this year and I'd rather not waste a 1st rounder on one. A QB later on definitely.. I think Billings could possibly be around at the top of the 2nd round, where they should definitely jump on that pick. I'm really liking Alex Collins too out of Arkansas for a second or third round pick, the Cowboys really need to look at drafting a RB. I think the Cowboys will have a top 3 pick when it's all over, here's to hoping for their future losses and their opposition for the top overall pick's success lol.
Hargeaves could have easily have been slotted in that CB spot. Agree on the quarterbacks.

Billings goes in the top 15... watch. Teams are going to love his film and Donald's success in St. Louis will ensure there are open minds about his height.

Let's not be stupid about Hasselbeck and Luck.
I know it's hard to sometimes pick up sarcasm in print, but surely the use of about 10 greater than signs should have indicated that it existed.

Made the defense better but Colt also transformed from a turnover machine to an all-time great QB from 2007-2008 and Muschamp had nothing to do with that.
Yes, but defense was always Mack's bugaboo and without Muschamp's remake of the defense, his added intensity of the program and what he brought to the program in terms of a shot in the arm, the Longhorns don't compete for two national titles in 2008-09.

Is the idea that Buechele might be worried about Texas going after a JUCO QB just speculation or is there something coming from his camp?
Well, they told him that he would be the only guy in the class, so I don't think they want to come across as liars.

Its just so obvious that Strong is an exercise in futility. I have never been more demoralized about the future of my horns if Strong returns.
Not even back in 2003 when OU dropped a fourth straight win over Mack in humiliating fashion?

No. While that was frustrating, we were still respectable as a program and consistently recruiting top 10 to top 5 classes. Only 4 wins is a disgrace. And to think we will just crack the top 20 in recruiting this year if we're lucky, at a place that will recruit itself if the engine is running, should also be a fireable offense.

[ing $1mm + for multiple years.

I feel your pain. It's unbelievable that we are in this situation and it just seems to get worse.

For me, outside of Rylance, none of the characters were interesting. The story plodded along and didn't capture my attention at all. Maybe I just caught it at a bad time becuase I typically love movies like this. In short, I thought it was boring.

I hear and read all of the bitching about how poor Texas' quarterback play is, and that is right. However I believe a whole lot of that problem is due to the fact that neither one of them have been developed properly by this misplaced coaching staff. The fact that I am not a Strong supporter is based on not being given a reason to show him support. They say if you want to see into the future, look into the past. Well, Strong has not shown the ability to assess and hire the right coaching staff. No reason to believe that is going to change. He is a guy that hit the lottery with Bridgewater in Louisville and rode that wave of good luck to be in the position he is in now. It's my belief that we are going to read a lot in the off season how well things are progressing and the future is bright and blah blah blah. Then when we get a repeat of the crap he has proven he can deliver then the excuses start coming in droves. Get rid of the problem now and let's move forward. Plus, his recruiting class to this point, sucks. One other thing, all of you mods keep talking about a million dollars like its a lot of money to the school. Even you guys can't believe that BS.

F*ck, if the staff can't navigate that then I'm not real sure what to say. Like you alluded to and I said previously, bringing in a guy with just 2 years left should really have not tangible impact on a HS recruit.

"… Perhaps it's easy to ignore defensive highlights on a night when you give up 48 points, but junior Naashon Hughes was a standout on a night with few of them after recording a team-best 10 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss."
It is funny to me that you highlight Hughes as having a great game. Maybe Alex can highlight his play after watching film. What I saw was Hughes directly responsible for 2 TDs where he gave up edge containment so bad the runner didn't even have to break off a direct angle. Entirely on Hughes. On another TD where the RB ran through the middle of our defense and we had 3-4 missed tackles - N Hughes was one of the the biggest. I'd swap 3 TDs for 10 tackles any day of the week.

Strong won’t get a third year at Texas if he can’t considerably improve his 6-7 home record.
Given that there are no more home games in which to improve his 6-7 home record, are you saying he won't get a third year? Nice.

We actually agree. I don't expect Bridge of Spies to be in my Top 10 when the dust settles.

I guess fools gold is still gold in color i guess. Mack had one team to beat back then and could not do it. He did not have to deal with good Baylor and TCU teams plus recruiting against the SEC in the way that we have too now( thanks aggy).

1. I'm NOT convinced Charlie Strong will make a move. I'm convinced he should but his decisions leave me baffled.
2. Less soccer please ;) lol

Did Mack Brown hit the lottery with Vince Young? Isn't recruiting kind of a big deal and doesn't the head coach get credit for landing him?

Considering Strong personally worked his as off to get Bridgewater out of Florida, I'm not sure that lottery ticket is a fair way of describing the situation.

One other thing, all of you mods keep talking about a million dollars like its a lot of money to the school. Even you guys can't believe that BS.

I don't know what this means. I don't know where we've indicated what you are suggesting we have.

Patience grasshopper, I believe this will work its way out over the course of the next seven weeks.;)
