Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Early impact on the way)

Thanks Ketch. I think it’s a toss up for #1 between Black and Jeremy, but I’m cool with you top ten Pearl Jam.

@Ketchum, what is your opinion of Austin FC? You’re the soccer guy, but I’ve been impressed by their stadium operations group. They’ve sold out every game and it’s only their first full year of operations. I’m not a soccer guy, so just curious as to your thoughts.

No. 9 - Top 10 Pearl Jam ...

You asked for it, you get it.

Pearl Jam.

Five Underrated: Go, Not For You , Life Wasted, All or None and Got Some

Last five songs out: Immortality , Given to Fly, Rearviewmirror, Off He Goes and Indifference

10. Inside Job
The final song off what some call the Avocado album, it's just a beautiful rock song full of different components.

9. Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town
One of the group's tried and true favorites about a small town girl who comes across a long-ago lover.

8. Once
A bad-ass rocking joint off the group's debut album Ten.

7. State of Love and Trust
One of the group's early beastly songs, it's full of white-hot fire.

6. Nothing As It Seems
A brooding, mysterious favorite from the Binaural album that feels makes me feel like I'm lost at sea chasing a faraway foghorn. Some might call it a great love-making song.

5. Even Flow
One of four songs on the group's debut album that crack the top five, this is another hard-charging classic that really helped make the group what it eventually became. Folks might not know the words to this song, but they know the song because it's iconic like that.

4. Yellow Ledbetter
Pound for pound, this is as good as any song they ever created. The final couple of minutes are lose-your-mind-in-the-music stuff.

3. Alive
The top of the list is dominated by songs from Ten and I'm not sure how you get around it. This is one of the songs that simply has to be in the top three.

2. Jeremy
This was the song that made Pearl Jam a world-wide band.

1. Black
The best song off one of the great albums of all-time and certainly the best from the group.

What does Texas have to do to look like the best team on paper? Why is Texas not able to land a WR or LB in the portal? Should they offer more money and level the playing field?
a. Not have holes all over the field in both phases and have average players trying to fill them.

b. Not sure. Other than dudes with options want to go places with better than 5-7 records.

Enjoyed it, but the two best movies I’ve seen in the last year (not released last year) were The Florida Project and Cold War (foreign). Check both of them out, if you haven’t already.
I've seen the Florida Project. It's good.

I'm 45, so Pearl Jam hit the scene in my prime music discovery years. (RIP: The Vatican in Houston, early 90s show)

Recently, I was with a group of friends from college and high school for some drinks at someone's house. At some point, Black starts playing on their playlist in the background. By the second half of the song we were all belting out the lyrics, Veder noises and all, like it was our anthem.

I never thought Nirvana or Pearl Jam would stand the test of time, but they still sit tall on the Mt. Rushmore of Gen X alternative music still played today.
No question,. Good post. Thanks for sharing.

Blue better have a lot of patience because he ain’t beating out Brooks. Brooks is special. The way he runs reminds me of Jamaal Charles. Brooks needs at least 10 touches a game.
10 touches a game ain't happening.

In no particular order

Porch
Of the Girl
Cordouroy
State of love and trust
Blood
World Wide Suicide
Brain of J.
Immortality
Rearviewmirror
Alive
Ummmm... sir.... we do order around here. ;)

Also, what happens if Murphy comes in and looks better than Ewers?

That simply won't happen, and I like Murphy as a prospect...in 2-3 years. Why compare Maalik to a supposed generational QB and #1 rated player in the country after his final HS year? Doesn't seem fair.

Ewers is just so far ahead of where Maalik is. Card is the one Ewers has to worry about, and most who know what it takes to be QB at Texas are betting on Ewers taking over. At least Card has a chance. Ewers was rated a 1.000 on 247 composite. Only other 1.000 QB I remember is Vince. Trevor Lawrence was rated .9999 and started as a true Freshman at Clemson, winning a national Title (2018). Ewers has at least gone thru a season at a top P5 university.

I think Card vs Ewers will be a battle this Spring. If I had to bet I'd take Ewers starting game one, but Card has a special arm. Ewers seems to have everything, like Trevor Lawrence.
we shall see.

Thompson can only dream he had the arm talent and skills Ewers has. I think Ewers will have a much better season.
Maybe, but he still has to prove he can play with pressure in face and an uncomfortable pocket.

Yes confused with Ketch’s thoughts here. So 1st season for Thompson will rival 1st season for Ewers even though one is a “generational talent”? I’d be curious how he got there. Either talent matters or it doesn’t.
a. Thompson's final numbers were an improvement on Sam's. He was no slouch, even with the injury from a total numbers standpoint.

b. I don't think Ewers is a generational talent.

@Ketchum can you expand on you B/S answer about Patterson as DC?

Do you mean you think PK flames out this season?

Is Patterson Robinson to PK’s Manny Diaz?
I think the shadow of GP looms all season. I don't think this defense is going to be a top3 unit in the Big 12 with its current personnel.

4th or worse probably means a change IMO.

I think the ownership is poor and not committed to being a championship team.

Where do we rank if we get a guy like Mathis on the roster?
