Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Good news and bad news)

I'm thinking of the movie True Lies, when Bill Paxton and Arnie are driving the red used car, and Paxton is talking about Arnie's wife, and says, "...ass like a 10 year old boy." Arnie fantasizes about busting him in his nose.
That's funny.

I hope Hornified knows I'm just busting his chops.

a. Hey, I'm not the one envisioning 12 tear old boys, amiright?

b. Yes, it's called education. Most of the top prospects don't have enough of it regarding the pros and cons, and there's the matter of going against the grain when everyone else plays the role of sheep.

Again, not everyone can pull off the no-signed LOIs and I'm guessing none of your family members could. The game is rigged against normal D1 athletes from pulling it off.

But, a guy like Brandon Jones could.
I might be way off on this one, but are you hinting that Brandon Jones is having second thoughts?

No, not at all.

However, his position coach changed days after he signed and my point is that if he did have a major issue with that, not signing his LOI would protect him against a situation (in theory) he'd be unhappy about. That goes for any of the big-time guys. All of these schools play the coaching change dump after signing day.

So Shaun King's post was for no purpose other than to replay a stupid prank from 20 years ago? I don't buy that at all, and I don't like Manning or the Broncos or the Colts. Hope he displays better judgement as a college coach.
The former QB/new USF coach Shaun King is a different person than the Shaun King that writes for the NY Daily News.

Can you imagine if there was another Geoff Ketchum out there constantly being bothered by Aggies and the like because of me?

a. Or the quarterback job could be a mess.
b. The line could just be ok.
c. The depth in the front four could derail the defense from reaching its potential based on back seven talent.

Plus, the schedule is no peach.
Wow, you really spoiled our fantasy there Ketch

Well, there are major question marks still facing a team that just went 5-7.

I kind of feel like I'm taking crazy pills when people around here wonder if the playoff is a reasonable goal for 2017.

Baby steps.

Kobe Bryant getting the respect and homage for his retirement tour is puzzling to but not surprising. We seem to have forgotten the incident with the woman in Colorado back in '03 or '04. She was bought off in a settlement where there was alleged sexual assault. Now, he's the hero going out on his own terms. Sorry, but since that incident, I've always considered him a disgusting POS. I wonder what would have happen in this new era of "no tolerance" for what he "allegedly" did to this woman.

Ketch:

Here is what I am having a hard time getting around on the Peyton thing.

In her original complaint, in her own words, before anything got litigious, she said Peyton mooned her. Peyton was 19/20 at the time.

My understanding is that she changed her story 7 years later to basically say he teabagged her and she now wanted to sue him. Peyton was 26 or 27 and probably worth close to 9-figures at that point.

Is all that accurate?

Add in that this article was written by a total hack who most consider to be a scam artist and I just think there is a lot to be skeptical about.

I don't think people have forgotten.

I believe most people believe that he's a terrible husband that cheated on his wife, but most people don't believe what he did was criminal. Just speaking on what I recall from the case.

Manning originally changed his own story.

I don't believe she ever described the situation as a "mooning". That word was invented by a Tennessee athletic department official.

From the Deadspin story:

"Within hours, Naughright said, she reported the incident to the Sexual Assault Crisis Center in Knoxville. Rollo found out what happened, saw that she seemed truly upset and bothered by what had happened, and asked her not to call the police. He also tried to “fix it,” the facts of the case document says, by helping Manning come up with the story that he actually had been trying to moon teammate Malcolm Saxon and that what had happened was an accident.

At first, Manning denied anything had happened at all, according to the document. During his deposition, Rollo took the responsibility for it being referred to as “mooning.”"

All of this will be taken care of if Charlie and staff can get the QB position stabilized. If we can score, then we're going to be in a lot of games. I think the D will be able to hand in there.

I thought this was the original complaint she made where she said he exposed his rear end to her.

I think the issue with her claims that some have is that she was vague at times with her descriptions of what happened.

Of course, Manning denying anything happened at all makes him a liar from the jump, right? And if that's the case, we have to talk everything coming from him with a gran of salt, right?

I guess. Maybe in Peytons head, nothing did occur that was noteworthy and only after learning that this was a big deal to the female did he fess up to what happened. My question is which is more realistic:

1. Peyton teabags a girl...she then lies in her original complain about what happens...then goes back on her story saying she actually did get teabagged and sues peyton after he got rich.

2. Or...19 year old football player moons his friend in the locker room because his friend is razzing him about his girlfriend and female trainer who happens to be there takes offense (all of which was reported in original complaint before lawyers or lawsuits were involved).

Just seems like scenario 2 is so much more realistic and goes along with what was originally filed in the complaint. Or maybe Peyton is a monster. I dont know.

Hey, I'll admit, on September 25th, 2010 at 2:29pm I thought it was total BS that the Longhorns weren't ranked in the top 5...
I think people surmise that Texas will be good again eventually, and want very badly to be the first one to identify the return to dominance. I can understand that. It doesn't make it less crazy, but it's a good crazy the random fan can afford to exhibit.

a. You can say "I guess", but the fact is Peyton starts off with a lie when this story first went down. I believe that point is incredibly important when establishing who is potentially telling the truth.

b. Peyton did not invent the "mooning" storyline. He was handed that by a UT AD official and he repeated it forever more.

c. I'm just as concerned about the allegations after the incident than during the incident. Archie suggesting she's been with lots of black guys, name-slander etc...

d. I don't know of anyone saying he's a monster, but he might be a huge asshole.

e. It doesn't appear that his teammate believes in the mooning story.

f. Tennessee's history in these matters is also important. They don't have a good word in this.

Are we allowed to curse on this board? I see the occasional cuss words and was just curious. Or is it just fine to do so in moderation? Honest question.

Not low, tempered. I'm not giving anyone the benefit of the doubt. Are you?

Hell, I still don't know who the quarterback will be and neither does the staff.
Your are right sir we don't know who the quarterback is but we do have a bunch of 4 star quarterbacks.
Nick Saban beat Texas with Greg McElroy, gotta have hope. We may be a year away (I would like to think).
So even though I was ready for a change at head coach it apperantly wasn't time. So I am backing Chuck, so get with the program and give us a glimmer of hope.

Saban beat Texas because all other positions on the team were plus-players and future pros. That's the only way being ok at quarterback really works.

Didn't McElroy go something like 5 out of 11 or something in that game? They were able to run well on Texas' undersized front. Still, those guys fought their guts out. That damn turnover before halftime on the shovel pass. Sigh.

!. I think that this is a high possibility. Sorry, but Swoopes isn't going to be the answer. Heard could have a huge jump in his second (red shirt soph) year, but having a 100% new offense to learn makes that a less likely (and I'm not sure it was likely before). That leaves us to needing a true freshman to be our savior. Hmmm.

2. If Conner and Vahe stay healthy, I'm pretty high on the line. It should be the best by far in the last three years (Ok, so that isn't saying much, but, ...).

3. I have real concerns over our defense. Last year was a train wreck, and it wasn't personnel driven. There wasn't much done in the off-season to expect a big improvement. I hope the "immaculate resurrection" that everyone takes for granted because "Charlie is a defensive coach" happens. We'll see.

And your last comment on the schedule is probably the most relevant. That was probably the biggest reason for last year's 5 and 7. Turning that to a 7 and 5 would be huge, factoring in the schedule. This will be a four year plan. The good news is that the last two recruiting classes should really kick in next year.

I'm wondering if this slow rebuild (record wise) might end up mirroring Miami from 1995-1999. Completely different circumstances of course - they were on probation and had scholarships reduced - but nonetheless Davis built up the talent over 4-5 years and they suffered blow outs to FSU, Syracuse and a few others over those years before it finally materialized in late 1999 when they beat top 2-3 ranked UCLA. Obviously Charlie can't suffer another losing season or else he won't see it through, but when Miami was ready in 2000 they exploded with talent galore all over the place. If Charlie can make solid progress next season, and be even better in 2017. Sky could be the limit. Big If's in that, I'm aware.
