Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Hot damn, what a burnt orange weekend...)

Ketch, I feel you where Houdini's concerned. We're getting close to having to say goodbye to our oldest dog, and neither of us is ready yet (and I'm definitely not ready yet). He's a Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix, so their life expectancy is shorter than most to begin with, but he's developed doggy dementia and is getting confused along with going deaf and we think going blind. He's had arthritis for a few years now (common in giant breeds), and our vet suggested these (you can get them from Amazon or Chewy), which have really helped him regarding mobility:

Hey Ketch, sorry to hear about your dog. when to pull the plug is always a tough decision. I posed that question to a vet I used to use a while back and I always liked his answer. In the absolute prime of your dog's life, what were his/hers 5 favorite things to do? Now ask yourself, how many of those 5 things is he/she still able to do or enjoy? If you are already down to 2 of those 5, you may be on the edge. 1 is very questionable, and if the answer is actually zero, you have probably waited too long to pull the plug. Dogs have dignity and they know when they are laying in their own poop and piss and it's not a great quality of life. just 2 cents, good luck with your decision.

I just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Our vet has assured me it's not time yet for Tiny to go, and that I'll know, but I'm afraid I'm going to hold on to him too long out of pure selfishness and not wanting to say goodbye. That's a fantastic way of evaluating the situation.

I think you are taking my comments somewhat out of context. It's simply not true that I don't follow the program.

My bigger world view expectations is that any coach at The University of Texas that hasn't won a conference title or turned his/her program into a nationally elite of the elite program by the end of year seven isn't doing enough.

Period.
Even if their salary is not Top 16 nationally, and they are trying to compete against a Hall of Fame coach (with two national titles) who is earning about 120% more than they are?

Coach Aston has made Texas relevant again nationally. She has one Elite 8 and three other Sweet 16's. That's not "nationally elite" in your book? You don't think she's overachieving for her pay check?

No. 6 - Hottest Hot Take of 2019 ...

You guys are going to love this one.

If we can all agree that Shaka Smart's team this season hasn't been good enough for the expectations everyone should have for the program in his fourth year, and that the program could almost certainly receive more from its head coaching position, I'd like to make a confession that will certainly cause many of you to cry foul.

A strong case can be made that Shaka Smart is doing a better job in his fourth year than Karen Aston in year seven.

In the most up-to-date NCAA Net rankings, the men rank No. 33 nationally this season, while the Texas women rank No. 32 nationally. Of course, we're comparing apples to oranges in this discussion, but consider how each program has done this season against its toughest competition.

In games against ranked opponents this season, the Texas women are 1-5, and that includes losses by 18 and 29 points against the likes of Mississippi State and Baylor, respectively. Meanwhile, in its games against ranked opponents this season, the Texas men are 3-5 (with wins over North Carolina and Kansas) and have been absolutely competitive in every single one of them, with a 10-point loss to Michigan State on a neutral court representing the worst of the bunch.

At home against ranked opponents, the men are a perfect 2-0, while the women are 0-4.

Keep in mind, I'm not arguing that Smart is having a good year, or that he's been a success. I'm just arguing that against a much tougher schedule, his teams have accomplished slightly more.

Flame away.
For the record, the part highlighted above is what Ketch posted. And in true shit stirrer form, he started and ended the thought looking (hoping) to get abused.

So after he has had his uninformed comments roasted by actual facts, while having his cherry picked stat outed, he has now turned the topic into Aston isn't an elite coach, and in his view if you aren't elite by year 7, you should be replaced. Those, of course, are other topics. But they weren't the topic he started.

Comparing Shaka to Aston was dumb, continues to be dumb, and likely will always be dumb. But Ketch wont ever admit it.

Men. Cherry picking is fun isn't it?

2016 …. Charlie Strong beats two highest ranked teams on his schedule. #8 Baylor, #10 Notre Dame. Just ignore Kansas and TCU. Signed, Ketch

Yeah, Shaka is doing better than Aston. Just ignore those home losses to Radford and VCU.

Funny thing is that if this past Saturday Shaka didn't beat ISU and Aston didn't lose to ISU, Ketch wouldn't have bothered including his comparison in his Ten Thoughts.

You didn't answer the question. Just answer it.
Reading is fun, you should try it. Like the first word of my post.

And your question is a dumb as most of the rest of your posts about womens BB.

Here is my question, how many tourney wins for Aston, and Smart? Who has gone to the Sweet 16 or better 4 times in a row in their careers, Aston or Smart?

Which question is more important to BB fans, or experts, yours or mine?

I mean... just answer the question instead of running from it.

Ask yourself why no one else in this thread has specifically attempted to suggest my premise was wrong when 100 times out of 100 I get jumped like I insulted someone's mother if I leave a small chance of myself being wrong?

Answer the question or don't bother posting in this thread again.

Time to catch up. Quality season. You're probably 8-10 behind.
All-Stars are always good. I’m an hour from finishing something else so I’ll jump in.

Angilau has to be s guard. His high school offense didn't allow him to pass block that much. So the last thing we need is him kick stepping on the edge vs a speed rusher.

Thanks... where does Christian Jones project? Inside or out? I'm hearing good things about him as well. We are going to be strong in the middle...

Longhorn Buc is that last ditty a veiled threat ??? GK, I would be happy with most anything you put out on this site re: Aston and her team if you only would do such a few more times each season ... IMO, and your welcomed to provide me with all of your articles, you are really AWOL when it comes to UTWS!!! I have a house full of daughters, grandaughters, DIL's all of which are interested in UTWS ... Their very young, so their "Social Warriors" days are just ahead of them ...

My God, I answered your question. THE FIRST WORD IN MY POST. MEN. men. MENMENMEN. Here did you get it yet. Men.

Of course, then I said your question proves nothing. Just like most of your posts here on womens BB mean nothing. You lost every argument here, and so then you tried to change the narrative of your OP comparing Aston and Smart. And I called you out on that as well.

Bwahahaha. A whole day of posts, and you still refuse to admit how dumb your OP was and remains. Congrats, you win the award for something really dumb.

a. It wasn't a threat. Just an acknowledgement that I'm done with this line of conversation. I have zero interest in a conversation where the goal posts move every five seconds.

b. I don't feel awol. I talk about UT women's basketball quite frequently, much more than any other non-Big 3 sport.

I have to agree with Ketch on the job Aston is doing i mean 7 years & not 1 title. She made the elite 8 3 or 4 years ago & since just sweet 16 & last year we had 2 great guards & other very good players yet we lost in the sweet 16.
Moo you made the point about her salary so again Ketch is making the point she isn't good enough for UT. This has been a tough year almost no quality wins probably won't make sweet 16 & i know injuries & graduation have hurt but i sure don't see Baylor slowing down.
In my opinion next year is it for her her either she makes a run at a big 12 title doesn't lose by 30 to Baylor makes at least elite 8 or time for a change

More than anything, I'm just wondering what the bar for success is because this isn't a school that settles for pretty good, at least it's not supposed to be.

Not sure where you come up with this. You know good and well how Jody buried the program from like 1992-2001; yet, she kept her job. Aston has had the best 4 year run for this program in basically two decades (except for the one FInal Four in 2003 which Aston was a part of).

How many years did it take Mack to win a conference title?

At Texas, if you are liked by your bosses, you keep your job.

I'm not talking about the bosses. I'm talking about the fans.

Mack's ass was on the grill until 2005.

I’ll say this, IMO, the Women’s team will make it further in the tournament due to the nature of the women’s game, but the Men’s team could actually beat any of the top seeded teams on a given day, while the women absolutely cannot.
Texas Tech says the hell you can.

The fans' expectations don't mean squat compared to those who sign the coaches' pay check.

Considering we've had two Final Fours in the last 30 years, our fans shouldn't have super high expectations

Moo i agree Jody took this program down but Aston shouldn't be struggling this bad in year 7. If we lose to TCU on Tuesday we may end up as a 6th seed in the big 12 & that just isn't acceptable.
Do you think next year is her last chance to turn this around or do you think we just continue to accept that Mulkey & Baylor just own us

Appreciate you sharing your fashion top 10... NOT. Don’t gay up this board Ketch. I’ve literally heard of 2 of those designers. Vera Wang because I’ve heard women talking about their purses, and Armani cause everyone has heard of him. How about favorite brands of power tools or construction equipment? Maybe top 10 favorite sports to watch AND play.. heck, do a top 10 of your favorite politicians.. lol.. that would go over like a turd in a punch bowl. But fashion?

so, what are the expectations? Why do you and so many others run from this question?

Get the hat !!!

Why is it that you always want your questions answered, but you failed to answer a couple of mine posed to you earlier in this thread?

Minimum Sweet 16 every season for me. She's achieved that the last 4 seasons, including one Elite 8. Is that level of success not good enough for you? Why do you "expect" more given where Aston ranks salary-wise nationally? Entitlement?

If Aston's worst year in the last 5 years ends up being a 2nd round playoff exit from the tournament this year... I'll take that any day over Shaka's 2 tournament appearances and 0 tournament wins through 4 years.
