Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (I might have reservations, but I'm not backing down now...)

... I did not see the Andrew Luck retirement coming from 1,000 miles away. It's hard to be legitimately shocked by a sports story, but my Saturday night included 100-percent shock when the news came down in the middle of Indy's pre-season game. At the end of the day, if the guy's body has broken down to the point that he's not comfortable and his brainpower has been fried from the constant pressure-cooker, I completely understand him stepping away and I hope he finds a place where his overall mental and physical health can reach places they apparently haven't been in a long time.

... Rory vs. Brooks has a chance to be everything Rory vs Jordan hasn't quite turned into.

... Full transparency: I was rooting for Curacao in the Little League World Series.

CHECK. CHECK. CHECK. (enjoyed your column!)
Thanks, man!

God in Cleats took his job.
You take not backing down to an extreme. I cannot believe you rank a guy who started 5 games ahead of guys who started for entire seasons, and then try to defend it.

I know Vince was special, and I am certain you thought a lot of Chance as a recruit, but he did not perform in the college game well enough to get half a season under his belt. He was 4-2 as a starter. He backed up VY one season. He was behind Major and Chis as well. Bill Bradley started three seasons.

Chance was just better than those dudes IMO. Period. I watched all of Gardere's games at Texas. He just wasn't as good as Chance.

I always wondered what Chance’s career would have looked like if that pod from Krypton hadn’t showed up.

He probably throws for 30+ touchdowns and finishes with less than 10 interceptions over 12 or 13 games.

Basically, one of the greatest seasons of any quarterback in school history at that point.

I wonder if he had any idea what was coming.

If he would have had the grad transfer possibility back then, I bet he would have used it.
Yeah that dude would have walked in just about anywhere and started.

It came down to transferring to a place like Delaware for a year and burning all of the UT good will he had or staying. I think he thought about life outside of football.

Delaware? Seriously? Yeah I’d rather be a Longhorn than a Blue Hen.

It was D2 or stay put. He didn't have the options that a 2019 world affords.
Ahhhh, yeah I was a little confused, but wasn’t thinking Delaware was D2, but I remember that was the rule.
