Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (It all hit me upside the head today...)

if you are hoping, believing that anyone can help shaka, then i honestly feel for you.

how many really good pros has shaka coached here? he is a really, really bad coach. unless you are saying GB3 is the next VY. see you don't get your ass kicked over and over and fail to compete and be a "damn good coach." you can be a damn good person and by all accounts he is that and more. maybe some day basketball will matter to fenves and del conte. til then we get this crap, "shaka may turn out to be a good coach." and he "may finally have the roster to compete." REALLY?! WTF!
I'm saying Brown is the best prospect he'll have coached at Texas, he'll have senior guards and a deep roster.

That's all I'm saying.

Not sure we will see VY's equal, not ever.

Brackens over Kindle ? Disagree. Kindle was a singular talent. Never used or coached up adequately, but he had ability we have not seen since Nobis.
Yah, but he ain't whipping Brackens in a fight.

I don’t envy your job now at all. If no sports and the most likely worst thing to happen to the US since the Civil War, you have to be the one who makes sense of it all for us every Sunday. Hats off to you.

keep in mind over the last 100 years all of the wars we fought were on foreign soil. Our general population was never in danger. Now it is and we are/may not be ready as a species to fight it off.

If I think about what crowded activities will be like in September, I am not sure we will see olds and unhealthy wanting to be around anyone who might be sick for quite some time.

The amount of PTSD in every human is building up and it’s potentially just the second inning. Imagine how scared folks will be of working in a crowded office with minimal privacy. A stadium packed in with people screaming germs all over everyone is going to take time for many to want to do this again. Won’t be by September.

Keep up the good work!
It's not out of the realm that games might be played without crowds this season.

That’s good stuff.
It’s just so hard to imagine that what we are going through is real.
This will be history there will be talked about 100 years from now.

I Wonder how many things we are having to do now will be kept as normal in the future.

how many companies will realize the savings by having the majority of their staff work remotely

how many restaurants will become take out only in order to shave the overhead. Hope not but a lot will go out of business if we don’t get back to normal soon

I think life changes from this experience

we will see
Good stuff Geoff
agreed. Life as we know it will change significantly.

That Cuban doctor video is flat out awesome. I'm sending that out. Thanks for the high note.

On the other end, maybe story time with uncle ketch should stop. The full story is never told (even decades later) and it just ends up being about the author. Maybe rethink the concept or take the censorship off.
*insert elmo shrug gif*

The entire economy has been shut down. The whole “there’s too much money in college football to not have a season” makes no sense.
It will when college athletic departments are tens of million upside down.

After seeing this on Sunday afternoon, I figured a few minutes of Vince Young highlights from the 2001 high school football players deserved its own section.

Enjoy.

It’s not even close is it wait I’ll answer that hell no. What a once in a generation player. It’s just a damn shame he didn’t get drafted by the right team in the NFL.

Lady before the Gambler because I saw him sing it live and he had more panties thrown his way than Tom Jones fact!

Island in the stream with Doll and Kenny one of the best duets ever.

Kenny told a story when he sang and you understood all his words.
I have no problem ranking lady No.1, but The gambler is literally the song that people think of when they think of Kenny in the mainstream.

What was Vince Youngs top speed? Idk I think it's like the SR71...classified.

I always like the song All I Every Need is You that Kenny Rogers did with Dottie West. I believe he grew up in a housing project in Houston with 7 siblings. Great memories of listening to him. RIP Kenny.
Juuuuuust missed the list.

I had forgot that Kenny Rogers was a graduate of Jeff Davis H.S. In Houston.

Additionally: talking about having something like Sports taken away from you and how people will respond, just look at the Houston Texans. After the Oilers left town there was a 6 year wait for Texans to be born. Since that first upset win over the cowboys, the Texans have sold out every single game and have a waiting list of 29,000 for Season Tickets.
yeah man, we're going to be itching to turn the fan side of us on at high volumes.

So here's the deal for anyone who wasn't on the 40 acres from '89 to '92....

Shane Dronett would've destroyed any of those guys in a boxing match. 6'6 280 and was golden gloves boxer and the meanest s.o.b. you ever met in your life. There are dozens of stories of people across Texas learning that the hard way...you did not ever get cross with Dronett or you got your ass kicked. And he wupped the crap out of Stan Thomas in a brawl during 2-a-days.
I have heard stories of a guy that I used to work with that pushed him to a draw outside of Bert's BBQ on MLK.

@Ketchum

This might just be my favorite 10 Thoughts of all time...you killed this week, from the Cuban doctors to Simms and VY to Kenny Rogers...just outstanding!

As I get older, nothing seems to impact me more than the deaths of my favorite musicians. It’s almost like a part of my youth dies with them. The songs are special but it’s also the memories of the times when their songs were so popular...when you’re young and free with your friends and family and the songs mean so much more.

Losing Kenny Rogers, Neil Peart and Ric Ocasek so close together really saddens this kid of the 70’s and 80’s. I guess every generation feels the same way, but they just don’t make em like they used to...
You nailed it.

Ketch you’re nailed this one, by far your best work I’ve ever read.
The part about you being a hopeless romantic is me to a T.
That also made me smile seeing those Cuban doctors go into battle that way so courageous.
We will all get through this set back and I believe this is going to bring everybody back to the center again and being more courteous and respectful of one another again I’m praying this changes things for the better.
Us hopeless romantics have to stick together!

Great post, Ketch! Thank you.
Yesterday was a really tough day for me. 7 days straight of work, and my young kiddos had major cabin fever. This board has been saving my sanity.
I feel you, my man. Hang in there. Here if you need anything we can help with.

Faced with a crisis never quite seen in the history of our planet
Seems like a bit of hyperbole. Maybe if you said "in our lifetimes", but if we are going outside of the natural world, WWII and the Holocaust would seem as larger crisis. Or Spanish Flu. Or Bubonic plague. And if we are talking about the history of the planet, how about the asteroid that killed all of the dinosaurs and left just the furry little creatures that turned into us?

Not to suggest that this isn't a big deal. That sentence just struck me as a little much.
