Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (It's almost go-time in recruiting)

I think the offensive scheme changes to more of a spread to take advantage of the immense receiving talent. Sark’s history with QBs year one to year two speaks for itself. His history with QBs period speaks for itself. There is no reason to believe Quinn won’t take a significant leap forward under Sark’s direct supervision, with an uber talented receiving corp and an OL returning intact - an OL that pass protects quite well with perhaps the best tackle tandem in the nation. All of that creates space for the running backs. AD Mitchell and Neyor as deep threats. Worthy and Whittington underneath. Depth. Sark running it all. I mean …… c’mon dude. This offense is going to be hell on wheels.

The D is now in year three with the same scheme. Did you say Ovie? Ovie? As in what will we do without Ovie? Surely not.

I see improvement at all three levels on D. If Catalon is healthy, we could be looking at something very very special in the

Texas,
I agree with your premise. We should be better. Who knows if we will?

I have concerns with Sark’s lack of playing reserves on offense. That, imo, is the reason we have not played as well in the second half as we did in the first half.
He has more depth now and I hope he takes advantage of it.

To me, that will determine the outcome of the season.

"very, very special"

I don't even fully know how to respond. 🤷‍♂️
I said if Catalon is healthy. Put a former all SEC safety next to senior, proven , three year starter Jerrin Thompson. Proven 3 year starter at Nickle with Jadae Barron. Proven, 2 year starter at boundary corner in Ryan Watts. At field, a battle between an NFL talent in Brooks who flashed last season and a proven commodity in Gavin Holmes, who I have heard described as the fastest player on the team and who was among the nation’s best defending the deep ball at Wake. Field will be fine and, in my opinion, upgraded from Jamison. Throw in depth pieces like Manny Mohammed, Kitan Crawford, Austin Jordan, uber talented Derek Williams, among others. That, my friend, is a hyper experienced, talented, deep secondary. I think it’s the best unit on the team next to receiver and maybe QB.

Really like your positivity!
I hope we are ready to put it all on the line this year.
If the team is excited, they could shock the nation.

I agree about using depth. Receiver is where the real depth is. Sark showed he could feed everyone at Bama with that ridiculously talented and deep unit. I think we will see that this season and I think we have very good reason to believe this passing offense will be elite, which will create space for some pretty dynamic running backs.

Of course seeing is believing, but this is prognostication season. All we can do is make predictions based on the best evidence available.

Let's start with defining what very, very special means to you.

What does that mean?

It means the unit communicates well and is well coordinated with football savvy - knowing what to do and where to be. Catalon and Thompson are smart, experienced, instinctual players with leadership qualities capable of fitting that description. J Barron too.

It means NFL talent at multiple positions. If the 5 starters are Catalon, Thompson, Barron, Watts and Brooks …. do they all play pro ball? That we have to seriously contemplate the question means - check.

It means production. Of course we have to see what happens, but given the two previous factors, we have damn good reason to believe this will be a highly productive unit.

My idea of special requires a bit more than that, let alone "very, very".

Beyond a well coordinated, savvy, productive unit with NFL talent everywhere, what do you mean?

Sark also didn't do well at re-adjusting to the other team's adjustments--when they took away what Sark was doing, he didn't have answers. That worries me the most about Sark.

I wouldn't have said this a year ago, but I'm less concerned with PK and the defense than I am with the offense.

He gave up some yardage, but also made adjustments and kept this team in the game, even when his D was out on the field too long. We saw noticeable improvements in the D last year.
He's also getting an infusion of much needed talent, which should help tremendously.

Yes, PK and the defense substituted much more and kept the defensive players fresh for the second half last year.
I assume that Sark didn’t feel comfortable rotating his offensive players resulting in the other team looking like they were in better shape than we were.
Our depth is much better now. Sark has done a very good job of building depth. I hope he takes full advantage of that depth even if he has to take some of our best players off the field at times.
Our second halves will improve if he does.

Good point. And if he is recruiting these guys, he should play them.
